Random thoughts based on the samples:

Bagels in Kiev sounds super lush...it's not like AC haven't dabbled in hip-hop beats before but never really like this one and the rhythm of Avey's vocal delivery sounds so great.

I know that AC was wayyyy into 'To Pimp A Butterfly' which came out right as they were starting to write for Painting With. I definitely hear the influence in Bagels in Kiev.

that's dope, bagels is maybe my favorite snippet but it's hard to tell haha

I asked Panda what some of his favorite albums were this year and he mentioned TPAB. In fact, all 3 of the albums he mentioned are also on my top ten favorite albums of 2015. He gave props to Deradoorian's 'The Ever Expanding Flower Planet' and Dan Deacon's 'Gliss Riffer'.

And then Abby Portner tagged Avey and Deakin on her Instagram at Kendrick's show in LA and wrote about how amazing it was.

How so? I wouldn't treat ACB as a progression in the band's style, considering how it was a compilation of very old material that was made for and sold to only a handful of diehard fans.

for some reason, a couple days ago the Amazon page for Painting With had 30 sec samples of every song. They took them down but someone ripped them before they were gone. they're like 128kbps or something. if you wanna hear them, there's a thread somewhere on the AC subreddit with some links, or you can PM someone who has the samples and ask them to send you the files (can't post links to them tho)

So bummed about those samples. This was the first album where we had no idea what the songs were gonna sound like, except for flordidada. Would've been completely fresh the first listen.

Talking about the people with no self control like me though. I know there were people who didn't listen to any of the boots from CHz or Grim Reaper.

pretty sure john cale's roll on the album is limited to the ritual at the end where the band brings lou reed back to live to have him throw down a verse over geo's beats

Godammit .. this album is 90% of what I'm thinking about these days.
I have no idea what to get my friends for christmas..
I'm pretty certain I need to get my car registered..
There's some dental work I still need done..
Yet.. This album is all I'm focusing on.

I told myself I would delete the samples after my first listen on headphones.
I have yet to delete them. In fact, I've listened to them WAY too many times.

BUT - I can say that I am no longer as concerned about the quality of the album as I was
after the first listen. It was very, VERY jarring at first. But after (way too many listens) I can see
that - in time - this album will be as committed to my memory as their previous work.
Sung Tongs, Feels, SJ, MPP, CHz.... Painting With...
...and everything in between.

All Hail. Fuck, I love this band.

am i the only one who thinks it's a little odd that animal collective's follow up to centipede hz would be one 96kbps six minute track craftily engineered to give the illusion that it is 12 thirty second previews? and that it was released unceremoniously on amazon via thirty second snippets that corresponded perfectly to where the illusory 'samples' 'ended'? and that by downloading them and splicing them together, the listener essentially created the new animal collective album themselves? :weed: :drugz: :weed: just the same, still better than centipede hz, it's been a fun album cycle guys, wonder what the boys are gonna cook up next

i know there've been great solo projects but yall gotta admit it's kinda crazy there hasn't been a full length AC record in almost 4 years. after this we might not get another until 2020 at this rate :'(

I would love to see/listen another prolific era of AC just like the one of '05 to '09

[2005 Oct.] Already playing potential work that eventually was released in 2007
Feels [Oct. 2005]
[2006] Playing new stuff that was eventually released in 2007 & 2008
[2007] Playing new stuff that was eventually released in 2009

PS

Judging by the snippets, AC sounds very young & fresh, very new i'd say. I really want their new album to top the Billboard charts, it'd be awesome & I want them to be all over the radio. :)
