Really love floridada but I didn't feel much for those samples tbh, ofcourse they're only 30 seconds and poor quality so I hope I will be surprised.

i listened to the samples once and felt kinda bad during them. i loved them all ! but i just know that is the worst way to listen to the songs. not how they were intended to be heard on first listen at all. but since we didn't get any boots this time around, i don't feel too bad. i just don't wanna listen again. can't wait for february ! love you all hope all is well.

amazon has a description of what will be presumably the standard vinyl version:

"Painting With is the tenth studio album from the band Animal Collective and is available in three different album covers, one for each member in the band - Avey Tare, Geologist, and Panda Bear. The album covers will be completely randomized, so you won t know what cover you will be getting until you open your order. Each copy will include a sticker sheet with the album title printed in a variety of languages, so you can sticker the album with the language(s) you prefer.

The LP is on heavy weight vinyl, includes a printed inner euro sleeve on cardboard stock and includes MP3 download codes."

so sounds like the deluxe minus the slipmat and 7".

Random thoughts based on the samples:

I love how Avey and Panda's vocals in Hocus Pocus create the illusion of a delay effect, with one singing like 1/8 of a beat after the other.

Natural Selection is such a different sort of song for Panda (and AC in general, really) but it sounds like it's going to be a blast. I never thought i'd make the comparison, but it kinda reminds me of Devo, actually.

Bagels in Kiev sounds super lush...it's not like AC haven't dabbled in hip-hop beats before but never really like this one and the rhythm of Avey's vocal delivery sounds so great. Maybe looking forward to this one most.

Summing the Wretch is like Boys Latin taken to another level. I'm also really curious to see where Recycling goes but I love that washy guitar(?) sound already.

I think Spilling Guts is the only one that didn't really do much to intrigue me, but it's hard to judge without hearing it all in context.

Holy shit Colin Stetson sounds so money on Lying In The Grass! Great panning with the sax too. I'm so glad Avey actually DOES like horns, haha. Vertical is mad vibey, that change at the end of the sample sounds like the creepiest gangsta funk. That seems like a recurring theme to me. I like the vibe of On Delay alot, AC pwns the 4 to the floor. Spilling Guts sounds like a centipede B-side, rhythmically speaking. A lot of the production is still pretty glitchy, but easier to swallow. Way groovier. I wonder how John Cale fits into this. I saw him live a few years back and he was rapping and shit, haha. No viola playing at all. One thing is for sure tho, this material is gonna CRUSH liv3

It sounds like the DJ sets def had an influence on the album. The "Boys Latin" style of singing might be a tad overused, I'll be interested to hear the choruses on this album. Is it weird that some of the songs make me think of Bone Thugs? Haha

I'm wondering specifically which sounds geologist is contributing on painting with, and I guess more specifically on FloriDada since that's the only song everyone has been able to hear in high quality.

Didn't he do most of the low end/bass sounds on CHz? I remember from the live videos and from seeing them that deakin was doing some low stuff on his guitar in songs like monkey riches and father time, but seems like Geo covered most of the low end.

yeah that's a tough one, i think the next part is 'power low, when they'll show us some legs, give her a rose, like a sexual thing'

i'm really hoping we get a lyrics sheet with this one, i think getting the lyrics for floridada is a good sign

But I'm pretty sure Animal Collective abandoned their gangsta rap roots.

I know that AC was wayyyy into 'To Pimp A Butterfly' which came out right as they were starting to write for Painting With. I definitely hear the influence in Bagels in Kiev.

You know an albums going to be great when the 30 second samples start clicking for you.
I'm starting to think this may be the most excited I've ever been since I started following AC. I'm not like uncomfortably excited because I've heard the samples and now have some idea of what I'm waiting for (which I actually don't regret, surprisingly), but this album is going to be huge I think. My excitement grows every day.

I know its kind of silly to judge an album off of 30 second samples, but based on what I've heard so far I can't help but be really excited for this album too. I don't want to describe it too much and spoil the ones who decided not to listen to it, but for me personally it's exactly the direction I was hoping they would go in and I didn't even know it. At first I was a little disappointed when I saw that there weren't really any longer songs on the album, but I'm cool with it now.

I haven't listened to anything Animal Collective-related in a while (since the PBvsGR freebird probably), and I thought I was growing out of them to be honest. But Floridada and these little snippets alone have rejuvenated my love for this band, I've been on a non-stop AnCo binge since the single was released. I'm so fucking hyped :metal
