I think that's just the quality of the preview stream. If you listen to the preview for Floridada on amazon its also not very good quality

grim reaped wrote:
Yea I'm 100% sure these are phone recordings unless someone wants to send me what they think is a direct stream. But what I'm hearing is not. You can actually hear them turn the speakers volume up at the beginning of floridada

Hey I'm the one who recorded the rip! To settle this debate, it's not a phone recording--it was done via Audacity. I did turn my headphone volume up at the beginning, because for some reason that affects output that Audacity records on my setup at least. The quality of the preview stream really was just that bad...

seems like this whole album is a logical conclusion of the avey+noah full hive-mind vocal fusion that guys eyes/taste predicted, cant even tell who would be lead vox from the samples except for maybe 2 of them (still not listening to the last 3 songs..)

I'm really into the idea that this is an album about art. Painting With is such a cool title and I can't wait to hear songs about cubism.

been a lot of talk about vocal trade-offs, comparisons to boys latin, and calling this their most accessible record... but are you guys hearing these rhythms!?!? tempo is so high and relentless but somehow these tracks still stutter and stumble is such a sweet way (even just in the 30 sec clips). this is totally going to be much more complex and mind bending than we are expecting. i dont think im ready for a listen, it is something i should probably prepare for.

guys.. it's so close.. this album is totally their final form... or at least a giant leap closer to it

I'm fine with lots of hocketing as long it isn't overplayed, which I doubt it will be. I do wonder how this album is gonna translate to a live setting though. FloriDada alone seems like it would be fairly difficult to pull off.

I love the effect hocketing can have on the energy of a song (digging it in FloridaDa a lot). They mastered it on MPP and I'm excited to see where they take it on this Bob Ross themed record.

First heard this early use of Hocket in a music appreciation class:

also after giving 'floridada' a few more listens i continued to find it great, infectious, pop gold but also jarring. this stuff is going to be so sweet it will abrasive and that idea is making me so fucking excited rn.

judging from clips most stoked about hocus pocus, vertical, the burglars, summing the wretch & recycling

Ahh, there are vague sonic resembles to very recent solo work by each respective songwriter, in these randomly selected 30 second sample teasers... who could've dreamed such a nightmare :boo:

(vertical and bagels in kiev sound so dope)

I'm going to agree with this. I didn't think too much of the samples other than I NEED to hear the full versions. This sound is very huge for their discography.

I gave the previews one quick run-thru and it def sounded to me like they're going for a more commercial appeal. Condensed psych-pop bangers. I kept thinking, "man I could listen to this with my dad" lol. Not a bad thing, I think this album is gonna blow up pretty big.

Expecting to hear them in commercials and movie trailers...

I think that if you're someone who liked the samples, then you'll probably only like the full songs more.

To those who are concerned about similarities between the melodies, I wouldn't worry yet; Burglars is a pretty good example, as at least for me (as well as I think a lot of people here) the most exciting part is the end and the 30 second snippet didn't even capture that part of the song. It's pretty safe to say that what we've heard still isn't representative of the album's best moments and if anything only really clues us in on the production style.

I totally agree, tbh even if the album ended up not being my favorite or whatever, it would still be more than worth it to see Animal Collective get widespread acclaim that they deserve. I'm still skeptical as to if Painting With will really explode in popularity, but it would be great to see.

only listening through once so im not too familiar but this album seems to lean toward some of the melodic elements of slasher flicks intertwined with the bounce and colors of swallow at the hallow...pure fun imo

i gotta say, love all the samples but am super confused by Summing the Wretch... it sounds so strange. maybe the random-sampler caught it at a weird moment. it sounds like the theme song to some kind of horse superhero in space. way more abrasive-pop than anything on SJ––and it's gonna be a single (possibly)? wild

Did you read that somewhere (that it's gonna be a single) or are you guessing?

yea wasn't there some theory that the songs that were (initially) left up as previews on amazon (Floridada/On Delay/Summing) were the three singles? or was that already wiped and disproven? (aside from that i think Sonic Boom mentioned he would've pushed it as the first single and i'm also just assuming the boys eventually obey the boom)

Bathroom flacs and amazon samples. What a month.

I'm just gonna wait until feb, roll me a nice big j, and listen to the album. : )

why do that to fans?

this would have been an epic: boom here it is. download available now! cd and LP shipping in february

instead of:

tease> tease> the silence will be broken>silence>its playing at an airport>silence>boom you can have it in only 3 months!

Yeah I get you. I mean the album is clearly done. I'd love to wake up one day, go to work and suddenly find out its out. That'd be amazing lol.

I do wonder about the 3 month release date. Probably time to get interviews done, marketing, plan tour, create hype, etc etc.

Yeah, it's really all about the label. They've got a schedule and have to time these things. AnCo is probably really excited about people hearing it so they're freebirding out stuff as much as they can.

Wow. Talk about picky. It's two freaking months away yo! I think that only musicians with a lot of name recognition benefit from instant streams anyway. I'm just happy it's coming relatively soon. The wait for Chz was excruciating.

I'm sure the band's excited for people to hear the album but I don't think they're freebirding stuff out. Do u mean the Amazon previews? I assume that was just a glitch or something

okay i know i'm going a bit overboard but i'm procrastinating and i thought it'd be fun to see which tracks are panda, avey, both, and how many times he uses that boys latin vocal echo thing (lol)
Spoiler: show
1. FloriDada - Avey & Panda, vocal trade off
2. Hocus Pocus - Panda
3. Vertical - Avey & Panda, vocals overlapping
4. Lying in the Grass - Panda
5. The Burglars - Avey w/ Panda harmony
6. Natural Selection - Panda
7. Bagels in Kiev - Panda
8. On Delay - Avey w/ Panda
9. Spilling Guts - Panda
10. Summing the Wretch - Panda
11. Golden Gal - Avey & Panda simultaneously
12. Recycling - ?

6 - panda, 2 - avey, 3 - both, 1 - unknown
boys latin effect - at least 5 lol

conclusions:
-so surprised how panda heavy this album is (unless we got samples of panda verses on avey tracks), esp after pumping out 20 tracks during PBVSGR era
-after hearing this plus bathroom flacs, the burglars is gonna be ridiculously good
-panda sure likes that vocal echo effect

this is TOO good judging from samples. ac plz help me out and freebird lp to me becuz it will be the only way i get thru finals

but rlly this sounds amazing.. like a more aggressive or energetic reverb-less mpp with the kinetic sounds/textures of a tighter, more electronic daney chz... at least some of this (on delay) is def the techno album ppl were predicting.
Spoiler: show
and dud yr list seems abt right but im pretty sure golden gal is def avey.

also the "boys latin effect" def isnt the exact same hocketing as in boys latin, and its a different wayof doing it on each track it seems..

edit 2:i think you might be right. it's either avey (singing a lot like panda at points) or both singing the same notes at the same time (see: the way 'right away is pronounced)

but yeah he definitely uses the boys latin effect in different ways at least
