I said a lot of people agree, a lot of people disagree....that's not saying they're not being honest.

I also find your use of "a lot" a bit dubious. Maybe we should make a poll.

Then why bring up the importance of being honest about music?

Because being honest in your critique of music is important. And as a fan of AC I'm going to be honest about how I feel about the track. The chorus really ruins this track me. I honestly imagine this song being montage music for a Redbox summer romcom and Paul Rudd is sitting in the passenger seat in a 80s convertible Jetta. Not the picture I want when listening to AC

And I think that's fine. But you seem to be implying other people aren't being honest when they talk about the song. The chorus is a total earworm dude and it's totally okay that it's not what you're into.

I'd agree with Ethmin that it feels like you're implying that at least some ppl who like the song are being dishonest, and I don't think they are, they just have different taste in music than you do
not to go off-topic but I really love this Atlantic piece on coming to terms with music that everyone else loves but you. I guess it's not completely off-topic since it's about Panda Bear but anyway some really great stuff in here that sums up my feelings about music taste http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainmen ... es/384470/

Part of maturing, I think, is realizing that charges of acting in bad faith are often themselves made in bad faith, an attempt to explain away gaps in understanding between two people rather than trying to bridge them, or even make peace with them. That's as true in politics and in relationships as it is in music, but in music—arguably the strangest and most subjective art form there is—the best option often is "make peace." Not everything is for you, even you of eclectic tastes and voracious listening appetite. That doesn't mean others are lying about their enjoyment.

That's the thing about trying to argue against an implication, because you assume my intent instead of just taking what I say at face value. And quite frankly what I said, is what I meant. Point being, I don't like the song, hopefully the rest of the album doesn't follow the same trend.

Yeah, I'm not repeating myself. If you "feel" or "seem" to think my post implies anything other than what I said, that's on you. Maybe you're guilty or you feel attacked, maybe who cares? Sorry if ya'll are triggered or something.

oh man, this to call home (buy grapes) is fantastic, and mutually felt for floridada.
bento you can't show up to a circle jerk late and try and shit on it and say you didn't just try to shit on it. it takes all the credibility out of your "opinion."

She's been feeling under the weather lately so I put this on and we danced around and it cheered her up
Great track 10/10 would trigger again

What I like about this song is that it seems to be the first time AC have went all out in trying to pay homage to a particular style. All of their past material, while definitely having plenty of influences that aren't too difficult to trace, all seemed to ultimately be pretty unique and isolated from those influences. They existed in their own little world. With this song, it seems like they sat down and said "let's see if we can make a relatively straightforward homage to a particular blend of pop music." The fact that they included the wipeout sample really sells the idea that the song is a deliberate nod to surfy, Hawaiian influenced pop music. This may seem like an alarming development in their evolution to some, but I think they pull it off beautifully. Because despite all of this, they still manage to make the musical content really unique and AC. The circusy synth in the refrain feels really psychedelic and plays with my ears in a way that AC just completely own. This all really comes through in the lyrics too, which feel like some of the best they've ever written imo. It's like a surreal, dadaist Kokomo. I can certainly understand not liking how poppy this song is, I was pretty disoriented by it on first listen too but now I love it. But I feel like everyone not digging this track probably still has a lot to look forward to on painting with. The fact that this song seems to be a deliberate nod to surf and pop music probably means that the rest of the album will be full of different flavors, perhaps equally as deliberate. Also sonic boom basically confirmed this I think.

Great post - I agree wholeheartedly. Check out 'Hawaii' by The Beach Boys for the same kind of high-energy surf/state homage. First song my mind went to. And then 'Fickle Cycle'.

i hate the wipeout sample... . . . .. . .. . . . i hate it
probably because i work at worlds of fun and in the wave pool at oceans of fun every 10 minutes when the big waves start that song plays
that aside. upon the first listen i was like YEET ANIMAL COLLECTIVE so i was groovin right off the bat but as the song progressed i kinda realized i was forcing myself to enjoy it. by the end of the song i was kinda not feelin it
BUT i do enjoy it more every time i listen to it. (which has only been a few)
i feel like it'll grow on me, it is a very fun song that's undeniable
honestly tho i hope the entire album isn't just like this

I'm willing to forgive it because i see its potential as the first track, but I'm a little dubious that this is the track they're presenting the album with. It's the least inspired-sounding song I've heard from them.
I kind of want to listen to one of those airport/bathroom recordings to restore my faith in the album. Anyone got a link?

I've been listening to the dudes since 2006 and wasn't super in to CHZ but this has me inspired in such a unique way, that" I never get during winter. I hear this track and I just want to love, be loved, travel, see new faces, places, and feel at peace that everyone around me is having a good time too.
There's that magic again.

Ditto. Maybe the new album won't be the greatest thing of all time, but this is the first time in awhile that I've felt the way I used to feel when listening to ac

i think, especially based on the bridge, and other aspects of the song, Floridada just may be an intentional tribute to Karma chameleon, among other songs

edit; i've learned that Karma chameleon is the first song on the album Colour by numbers.

There are many unexpected proto- AC elements in this song that i hadn't noticed before actually.
So that would lead you to be a bit perplexed by how it feels as the band's own songwriting direction. There is a lot of magic and wyrdness in music before the internet; sometimes it feels like there was more attempt to fit the feelings of universal connection in to music because that was nowhere else but in music and then after that other forms of art..!

floridada da bomb yo
it makes me feel amazing and v thankful that i have a band like AC in my life.
also can't waaait to experience a live version.
i'm finding it weird that avey doesn't go ape w his vocals during the chorus though lol, (not complaining, just observing, it's cool to hear him experiment with tame vox). but in my head i can totally hear him screaming "floriDA-DAAAAHH - FLORI-DA-DAAAAH!!!". maybe live?!
for anyone publicly venting their dissatisfaction with the song here: (1) whyyy botherrr? (2) sorry u are not enjoying the floridada dad rock...
maybe you will soon! it's been growing on me more n more each listen, and who can say that they haven't initially been put off by what is now their fav music. this track has a delicate complexity to it and there is a lot to absorb i think.

Considering how badly he continuously was blowing his voice out and getting sick on tour, it's not surprising to me that he's writing himself controlled, tame, moderate vocals.
