I wonder if the 'Echo guitars' line is a reference to Echo Park Guitars? It'd make sense, since it's probably not far from where Dave lives

THIS.

And after reading the lyrics, it couldn't make more sense to me since i'm hearing an AnCo song about global human harmony.

And maybe I actually visited
some sort of mythical place
Or was it a future

Oh let’s go get lost in the image
I made of the everywhere place

but why and for what purpose? You'd rather have your own interpretation first? I am asking because I am fascinated by people saying they are not going to listen till the whole album comes out, but you are listening and instead only refraining from the lyrics that they gave us.

I like the song a lot so far after 2 listens. They really packed a lot into 3 minutes, and while there's a lot going on, this is essentially a pretty basic song in terms of the chordz. Already said it in the album thread, but they do such a good job of making common or simple progressions their own. Very hyped for the rest of the album. Would be cool to get a vid for this, but I feel like if there was going to be a vid it would've came out today with the single right? Then again crosswords vid dropped a couple weeks after the EP came out so who knows!

Yea I feel ya I s'pose. There's a lot of tomboy/feels/sung tongs lyrics I still don't know for sure and sort of like it that way. Sometimes I'll read lyrics from the wiki and then forget them later on too.

The song's not a masterpiece and it's not a tremendous artistic leap for the group but at this point the band doesn't need either one of those things. They're past experimentation and they seem to have found a pretty comfortable groove that borrows elements from throughout their discography and it all works pretty succinctly. I love how the opening borrows the stomping beat from "Grass" before spontaneously transitioning into that giddy verse; it's like a self-aware nod to the band's stylistic evolution. And I love the restraint in Dave's voice, which is a pretty welcome change from some of the more heavy-handed vocals we've heard from CHz and Slasher Flicks. The Ramones-analogy they mentioned in that interview kinda makes sense; it's like the band is cutting down on the pretense and just wants to deliver the essential goods.

Please let the rest of the album sound like this.

This song is contagious. A smile grew on my face when the chorus came up. It's so happy and bouncy I felt like I was going to cry.

the verses are great but the "flori flori flori flori florida, floridada" is super cringe, it's the least melodically inventive chorus they've ever written. it's like AnCo on broadway. regardless, I'm very hyped for the rest of the album, the production sounds better than ever and it seems like some of the magic that escaped on CHz has returned, hopefully to stay

It's funny, I personally didn't enjoy chz but I'm into this. Not that they should have to sound like classic AC but this feels more like classic AC to me. The self referential drumbeat at the beginning is clever. I haven't heard them do call and response before like they do in the bridge. It's the most pop thing I've heard by AC which is, in a way, innovative. It's like, how far towards pop can they take their sound and still remain intact? The spirit of the song very much reminds me of WCWAR and Water Curses.

I'm liking the song a lot! Here are the chords if anyone's interested: Ab, Db major 7, Eb, Db for the verses/pre-choruses; the riff at the beginning of the chorus is the notes (ascending)F-G-Ab-Bb-(start descending here:)Ab-G-F-Eb-Db-Eb, then the chords Eb-Db. Bridge: Db-C minor-Eb-Db. And it ends with Ab

Spoiler: show
I like it a lot tho, but I can understand people not liking it especially when compared to other AC
definitely getting honeycomb/moonjock vibes from this, both in terms of the structure and upbeatness.

Born n raised Floridian here! For my whole life I've pretty much hated this place, wanting to live somewhere with seasons, better scenery and less crazy people. After hearing this today, it's like a big tidal wave of love crashed over me in this stinky ol' state.

The bridge of the song (ya kno about the bridges) really kinda struck me hard as dumb as it might seem to others. "Where’s the bridge that’s gonna take me home" is a thought I have a lot. I've always planned to move away from here and find my home somewhere else. A lot of people try to come to Florida and retire but I want the complete opposite. The grass is always greener, ya kno?

THIS SONG IS JUST SO DAMN HAPPY AND IT GIVES ME EMOTIONS OK

I can see how people find the chorus cheesy, but for me, that cheesiness actually makes the song for me. I was a little iffy on the song until the part before the chorus, and then the chorus struck me. It's cheesy and bubbly, but for me it just gives it more charm.

Kind of wish we heard a non-album track first, similar to the Honeycomb/Gotham release, but it's awesome to hear new stuff from them regardless.

This song gets better the more I listen! AC did something new, yet familiar. I love the shared vocal and the overall FUN vibe.
Hoping for another song release before the album, not just a freebird preferably.

sounds like they had a lot of fucking fun when they made this. like they totally just didn't give a shit about how goofy or vulnerable it made them seem. i feel like they have this duty to be 'trippy' or 'challenging', but they let go of that here and just did some fun shit.

really nice to hear avey's voice sound so smooth and without the shrillness. he's always been able to do both vocal styles but i feel like a lot of his recent music has focused on gnarlier, abrasive vocal stylings.

the call and return in the verses got this kind of of sullen but hopeful vibe to them. then the chorus comes in and lets you know everything is gonna be aight. in the best way possible.

i agree this song is pretty emotional considering it's the happiest the band has sounded in any of their projects in a while, if not ever? i also agree that this has major water curses vibes, which has always kind of been an underdog ep of theirs.

the strings at the end make me hopeful we will get some more stringed/acoustic instruments on this record. damn sorry for all the text. these guys just get me all worked up.

this is what ive always wanted; avey to me is basically Sondheim + Syd Barrett at his truest/best.

this song is too freakin good. its almost like shockingly intense how fucking hard they go for it here and like just give no fucks abt sounding perfect. i like the "weight" of the sonics here. if chz sounded almost too "heavy" sometimes, this is like a breezy but somehow very substantial middle ground comparatively and it hits a rlly nice sweet spots. seems like feels without the washy reverb layers and thick guitars. its too freaking slick in an amazing way

i'm kind of glad that they are just going for the album though. the whole ep release before album is getting tiring. i love how fast it all seems to be happening compared to their recent releases. also, honeycomb/gotham were such a different vibe from chz that i felt a little disappointed that chz didn't extend that vibe and went a different direction.
