As for me I think it'll be their most accessible/pop (according to how I hear those two bathroom recordings). It doesn't remind me of CHz at all - instead I feel the approach is rather minimal, the space isn't filled with sounds much. I feel it's more like Down There maybe.

I haven't listened to any of the clips, but yea, just the fact that people have compared it to both C Hz and mpp makes me think that it probably doesn't sound that much like either of them. Maybe some similarities for sure but overall I'm confident it'll be pretty different

You can only judge the tracks if you've heard the bathroom flacs

We don't really judge, we just fantasize. It's fun, in a way.

In all seriousness I think that because CHz is my favorite AnCo album, and because its the image of AnCo that's ingrained in my head at the moment, I compare the bootlegs to that album. Doesn't mean that it really sounds like CHz because of my predisposition to perceive it that way.
Also, two tracks, even in pristine studio quality really don't even represent an entire album of twelve songs. Everything that we haven't heard could sound COMPLETELY different for all we know.

That's true, and it doesn't sound like anything they've done before.

why would you feel disappointed that they did something as cool as streaming their new music in the airport on one of the busiest and most hectic travel days of the year? when everyone is traveling home to see the ones they love. seems like a great idea.
if they hadnt done it, we'd just have nothing until a single on monday anyway, and animal collective would miss a great opportunity to do something unique ahead of their album release.

I felt like I should chime in. The artwork people found on online, I guarantee is most likely the single art NOT the album art. Animal Collective and Panda Bear usually work exclusively with the Seen graphic design studio to create their real LP covers. It's obvious that isn't a serious candidate for a released in the real world package. As i said, maybe its the art that will be released on Monday with this single.
I don't want to judge the music off of a bathroom recording, where some guy is flushing a toilet and saying ''this sounds like phish bro''.
Also Animal Collective is set for a long time, they don't really need to market their music toward their small fanbase. I think this is the natural progression of a band where all members are in their 30's -40's who all live in different states/countries. I don't think they care about releasing another chart-topping moneymaker that we saw with MPP, I don't mean that in a musical way... but in how they present themselves. They are no longer a hungry band who is tied to the standard routine of releasing an album every 2 years and such.

About the album art...
It would be kind of odd if the picture of Avey's drawn face was the album's cover. It's a great picture of Avey, but I don't know if they would really create a cover that's so centered around his image. It would make a great single, and I wouldn't be surprised if they made the same type of art for each band member on different songs.
We'll see though; it does really fit into the 'Painting With' concept.

Nothing against Geologist, but I could really go for another album that's just Avey and Panda. Sung Tongs and Spirit were both out of this world.

Actually taking umbrage with the manner in which this album was revealed is miserable behaviour.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel a bit betrayed by the whole airport stunt? At first I thought it was cool and was excited because I thought that the fact that they let a bunch of people who don't care/don't like AC hear it would mean that everyone would get to hear the whole thing fairly soon after, but that doesn't seem to be the case. This whole pattern of cryptic teasing and then going silent for days on end while most of us don't get to hear/participate in any of it is getting frustrating to me.
If they wanted to surprise us I really wish they had just released or streamed the whole thing so we could all be a part of it. Also, I was looking forward to all of us being able to hear the whole thing fresh with no boots but now it seems like these bathroom recordings have made the playing field uneven like it has been all the other times.
Anyone else experiencing these feelings?
I don't feel betrayed since for a long while now they've made most of their albums available to be streamed or listened to via listening parties before the official release dates. And it's cool that they chose their home town's airport to be the venue to play these new songs. Some of their oldest fans were probably able to hear it and were probably pleasantly surprised when they realized what it was.
I'm definitely jealous of those people who got to hear it though. It's the same jealousy I got for those who were able to see the first PBvsGR and CHz shows, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles

I know I'm not alone because some people expressed similar sentiment a few pages back and didn't get attacked for it. I guess I'm just being impatient for official updates from the band with some concrete information as opposed to all the speculation and secrecy.
Anyway, regardless of how they roll it out I'm incredibly excited for the new album and I'm sure it's going to be awesome as usual!

Definitely!
Come Monday, besides new music, I hope that we get some info on the genesis of the album (producers, origins of songs, etc.) as well as a tour announcement. I'm really hoping for a Chicago date that's not for a festival!

Holy crap I am going to say something rude. Noticed some people saying it sounds similar to CHz. Maybe it sounds like CHz because the horrid bathroom recording creates similar sound affects as the CHz vocal affects and cluttered/distorted layers of sound.
CHz was not one of my favorite albums, 'I think I can' is in my opinion an example of perfection. I believe CHz broke away form clear vocals, shared back and forth singing, and simple repeating melodies that build upon themselves. I just hope they go back to that, it does not mean they are repeating themselves it just means they are fucking awesome. Every one is different just saying my preferences.

Tour dates, a single and some more info about the album (release, art, production) on monday would just be really, reeeeeeally nice.
Its pointless to compare the Bathroom FLACs to other albums, they sound like a voicemail on speakerphone. Just enjoy them for the amazing music

aveys vocals in the "parking lot" part from the bathroom recordings sounded very moonjock to me, and I think that's pretty coo cause I love moonjock.

this is so incredibly entitled.
They could've quit after CHz
it's not like you're never going to hear it. A month is nothing. In the last two years we've gotten PBVSGR, Slasher Flicks, and a ton of extras. Stop whining.

Let's talk about how Deakin would be the best producer for this.

I respectfully disagree, my friend. The vox sound much more cleaned up and in the front than feels.

The percussion and the hectic style that's not overbearing. The Burglar sounds like the purple bottle to me. Reminds me a lot of Fickle Cycle.

how is it that you guys think deakin produced this album when he wasn't even present when they recorded it? come on now

sigh....everyone knows that deakin transcends this concept of "space" therefore meaning he can be present in many places at once, also known as omnipresence
but forreals he did it while scuba diving

do you really think a producer needs to be there during the initial recording?
