There isn't enough in those two short recordings to go off of really but I'm definitely getting a much more upbeat and dancey vibe from these than with Tomboy or Person Pitch.
Do you know where I can hear the second one? The only recording I know of is this:
I really hope something more from this show will pop up, though I'm not expecting much. I'd love even to just read a description from someone who went, and to know if he played any old songs
Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks were playing at the Lexington in London last night. They were great, really quite impressive.
Early on in the set, I saw some guy walk over to the sound desk with a girl. Turns out it's Panda Bear and his wife. I said "hi", but didn't want to bug them too much, so let them be.
After the gig, I stayed around drinking downstairs, and bumped into both Avey and Panda. Avey mentioned that Slasher Flicks are planning on writing a couple more songs and then hopefully recording something in August. Panda said that he's got some new material ready to try out (at ATP this weekend), and that it involves a lot of 1990s hip hop beats. Apparently, he likes A Tribe Called Quest.
In general, they were both really nice, friendly and happy to talk. Panda is incredibly humble. We were discussing how Down There is underrated, and he kept saying things like, "I wish I could make an album like that", to which I couldn't help but respond, "normally, if some guy at a bar said that, fair enough. But from the guy who wrote Person Pitch!?".
That's really cool. You can definitely hear the 90s hip hop influence in that vine clip. I think I'm gonna use the lack of recordings of the new panda stuff as a sign to just try and avoid boots until the album comes out. I've already familiarized myself pretty heavily with the slasher flicks songs, so it will be cool to go into Panda's album fresh.
and yeah i was thinking that this new panda bear record could have the most crossover appeal out of any AC related release since pandas coming fresh off his daft punk feature
Was there. That song on the instagram link was so awesome, probably my favorite of the set. He also did a really pretty one based around a harp sample which I loved. Over all it was all good stuff, set was about 45mins. I recorded 10 minutes of it which I hadn't intended to upload (my phone is terrible at recording high volume audio).
From the 2 Vines, that Instagram video, and "Princepe Real" and "Soft Serve Rip Curl" it sounds like this next album will be Panda's "beats" album. I'm pumped to hear how he re-works 90's hip-hop. "Princepe Real" gave me an Actress kinda vibe too... please let there be a boot of the entire set out there!
...excuse the sound plus dodgy dutch angle tilts blah blah blah
Thanks for sharing! It sounds like that harp track is another sample from the Nutcracker (like "Soft Serve Rip Curl" had)... also that vocal version of "Principe Real" is insane!

Gman - did Panda play any old songs or was the entire set new material?
Entirely new stuff as I said earlier. The first thing he said was "I'm going to play you guys all new songs" or words to that effect.
Btw Slasher Flicks were awesome too. On par with the Panda stuff no doubt.
Also Sonic Boom was there. I had a chat to him but didn't ask him about Panda, he tried to pretend he was with the crew and that he owned a crane they were using to offload gear, he was amused that I entertained the thought. Then he put a sticker on me that said 'Your Keys Are Locked.. On the Side.. [something something I can't remember exactly]' Anyway.. yeah, crazy good time.

Oh whoops skipped right to the video and ignored everything before haha
Hopefully he announces a random show or two for the summer like he did with the Music Hall of Williamsburg show before he and Sonic decided to do a whole tour around PBSBTB

lol I have no willpower.
But the vocal melody in the first song. And everything about the second song. And soft serve rip curl with vocals.
Jesus Christ.

the pure fucking BEAUTY of soft serve rip with those harps...what a goddamn treat to hear this, thank-you to the uploader!!!
So tough not listening to this, but I think I'll be happy once I hear the finished versions of these songs. Really happy to read so much positive feedback on the stuff though!
whoops i did NOT see y'all already posted this haha. should have known you guys are faster than me!
that harp sample one sounds beautiful... all these clips sound so good! sounds like people will probably dig this upon first listening, will prob end up being way bigger than Tomboy stuff due to its cool beats accessibility.
