Since we're all discussing our interpretations of these tracks, this is how I've been thinking of this album on my last few listens. Each song is about dealing with death and/or loss from different perspectives:
Spoiler: show
Sequential Circuits - "get just what you need" while you are alive. "seeds become a tree because you can’t be a growth and the same as before" this lyric in particular reminds me of the quote from Noah's first interview regarding this new material, that "sometimes new growth requires death"

Mr Noah - the physical process of death. "bit on a leg" "don't want to get outta bed" "drip a lot drop a lot (blood?)" "so wide to the other side" "toward a bigger sign"

Crosswords - death from the grim reaper's perspective. death "ain't fate, just me" "a cropper for the weak stuff you stew/brew" the weak stuff being our (from his perspective) pathetic little lives. "stay there while I move stay scared while I improve" I'd say most of us fear death, and the grim reaper must constantly improve with the growing world population. "it don’t mean I’ll do it like you want me to" death does not come when it is convenient for us "but it do mean I’ll do it like you need me to" but he'll get you when its nescessary. "so good you’ve got it so good damn it so good" we don't realize/appreciate how great it is to be alive.

Butcher Baker Candlestick Maker - dealing with the loss of family, be it a pet or close family member. the immediate panic "grip this grab that have that an empty bag". and then having awkward/uncomfortable encounters with family "really shouldn't bring that other guy" as in "what are you doing here?". the people around you could be "a friend of mine" "a gemini" or some "other guy". having to "wait a while" for the funeral.

Boys Latin - "we don't appreciate our things" while we are alive and then the "dark cloud" of death "moves in the darkness"

Come To Your Senses - dealing with loss on a personal level. "are you mad" that they are gone?. "you won't make that one again" "this the last time" reflecting on mistakes or things that you feel you could have done differently while they are alive.

Tropic of Cancer - I think this one speaks for itself.

Lonely Wanderer - looking back on the life of a loved one who has passed. "if you could look back" on your life and experiences "would you look back" and think it was worthwhile

Principe Real - trying to move on after a loss "fool these ugly thoughts". trying to feel normal again even though theres this "sheep dog" "nipping at your heels"

Selfish Gene - acceptance. "see it so clear". "when at the start it seems like fates have set it up like so much magic" as a child your life seems so magical, but as you get older and more cynical you see it as "just a ruse to get you in there". You realize that there are many things you may be told or you may learn but it just "ain't it" and that "only you can fill those spaces" and live your life just how you want to. others may "rub in how a proper chest is clean" but to you its just silly, it "ain't it" either. "when the party goes" and your life is over, "it breaks [your] brittle back".

Acid Wash - viewing death as a positive. you may journey into the great beyond "on a rope" or on "a ship" and "laugh (into) the chasm" "as you've won against the dark"

hey sonic,

it's very cool of you to hang out in this forum, answering questions and dropping hints. I can't think of another setting where fans get to pick the brain of a producer like this. it makes listening to the album a more personal experience.

--There's a lot of call-and-response vocal play on this album (sequential circuits, :42 in butcher and especially in boys latin). Is that something you guys discussed explicitly? What production techniques (besides panning) did you use to underscore that?
--Can you clue us in to some of the samples we haven't picked up on yet? What's your favorite sample on the album?
--Favorite song from this era? (i love the windows-down feel of TSOP and crosswords)

^ya shout-out to tsop, that track is so sweet... i wouldn't say i miss the "ocean (cean-a, cean-a shuna) sounding thing from the bootlegs, when he says "like a sinking ship on the ocean," but im glad i have that live version to listen back to for that...

every song on the lp is so solid its hard to single them out... ctys and selfish might be my favorite, but i literally like every song nearly equally.at this point. first half of the lp has to be one of the most solid sides of pop music in recent years... seems like every song could be a single. kinda like mpp. 2nd half too, but since its a little less beat-oriented it seems different

hey NP
thats kind ! ! thank you .
after a tough day at the oriffice , you guys n gals are fun .
on a good day , your pretty close to magic .....
....so thanks right back at you ! !

I can't clue you in to samples .
I dont really care about them beyond the sound , but they are all credited on the lp sleeve .

no , i dont think we discussed anything 'explicitly' regarding call& response vocals . All the ideas were Noah 's ...... he was 3 steps ahead of me the whole time . I was just agape , catching up on what he kept coming up with ....
I did say I loved that interplay & the yodel vibe.....i like that sort of vocal movement.
for sure , the right sort of delays & reverbs certainly can help , but in general this LP was an attempt to not rely on fx , and to get as much magic out of the dry signal .

I felt they all worked pretty much off the bat that are on the LP . as yet unreleased - popadum i'm very partial to , and jabawaqy & cosplay is a fave...
His vocals are super well thought thru ......so , if it aint broke.....
have a great week !! peteggx

Very cool, I'd definitely say you can hear this in the finished album. There's still reverb and delay but it never overwhelms the dry signal. Also this should totally shut up any PB haters who insist that he uses reverb as a crutch (such a ridiculous claim).

in both tracks, it's a combination of a breezy melody and drums that have this perfect laid back shuffle feel. it's a playful, buoyant kind of sound....a nice contrast to the more somber/spiritual tunes

i think he's just poking fun at the fact that people are saying 'post pbvsgr' when the album hasn't even been officially released yet, i think when he says 'banquet' he's referring to the album itself lol

e: unless the banquet is the atp rehearsal  :flail:

For you guys who may have missed it...

Rusty and Panda had a short-lived side project called Together, and I posted a recording I came into possession of here:

http://collectedanimals.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2233

It's pretty damn beautiful, whether or not you like Rusty's solo stuff.

I have a Google news alert on for "Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper," so I got an alert for this shitty article today: http://diffuser.fm/panda-bear-limited-edition-2015/

2 things:
1) misleading title since the "limited edition triple LP" is just the double LP plus the Mr Noah EP, like many of us have preordered
2) pic of Geo instead of Panda lol

It isn't something you want to go into with fear. I believe Ayahuasca is a powerful healing medicine that opens you up to it whenever you're ready. I don't think you should be anything other than what you are and ready for. Any fear you hold it is capable of showing you the full extent of, it can be harsh in those terms, but it is also capable of being completely gentle and loving.
