so perfect, reminds me so much of ODDSAC (feels & SJ). In my mind i see AC playing this at the Malta Festival. I also imagine Panda floating in space asking these questions to a little girl, but it's not dark, it's
very light. I love the space in this track, and I would love AC to go even deeper deeper deeper into this on their next album. panda AND avey singing together. MAN.
What a joke
to joke
no joke
I especially love the way he sings No Joke, gives me boosegumps everytime.
I also love that 2nd time he sings You sneak it all awaaaaaaayyyyeeeheeheee
oh and do you guys hear that synth..(?) around the 4:46 mark on CTYS? ofcourse there are these sccchwwwwwssshhhhh tststststs, but I would've loved more of those flying melodic sounds like that
So Pete,
I'm still wondering why you(and/ or Noah) choose for the instant beat, and the lack of variaton in it, I dont mean the rhythm should be changed anywhere, i love (the) repetition, but why didnt you make it more dynamic( same goes for the returning sounds ) ? I'm not saying i dont like it this way, I love it.. I'm merely interested in the motivation behind it.

Haha I thought the exact same thing! It might be that the piano reminds me of the loops in Cuckoo and Safer, but it almost seems like Panda's take on one of those two. Totally wasn't expecting something like that on the album but yes, it was worthwhile

Guys....I just had a thought this morning: we have to be prepared for the possibility that Jabberwocky won't have a drop, just like Crosswords or ctys.
Hear me out. I know it sounds totally ridiculous, since the drop is pretty central to Jabba. But who knows—PB could probably find a way to arrange that song with the drums going the whole time. I'm not saying I think it would be better or worse that way, I'm just thinking that we should be prepared for that possibility so that either way, we won't disappointed when we finally hear the studio version

Nah, like Victor said, the drop is totally central to the song.
He'd be changing it way too much by leaving it out.

See, that's what I'm saying—I think that it's best to be open-minded about this. I think if the listener goes into it with the mindset that it would definitely sound worse without the drop, it will inevitably lead to disappointment if the drop isn't there, or if it's altered somehow. The studio version would sound great with the drop for sure, but maybe it could sound good in a totally different way without the drop.
If this freebird has taught us anything, it's that PB's studio versions of songs are a totally different animal than the live versions. Did any of the songs on PBvsGR come out exactly as they sounded live? As far as I know, he's only played Jabba live with the drop, but that doesn't mean the studio version has to have it.
Anyway, I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, because if I had the choice I'd probably include the drop myself. I'm just trying to be realistic about it so that I'm not disappointed. Whatever PB decides to do, I'll trust that he (and PK) thought long and hard about it and did what they thought was best.
Disclaimer to all the above: please listen to the music however you want to, I don't mean to tell anyone that there's a right or wrong way to listen to music. I'm just offering some friendly suggestions that could potentially help some people come to enjoy music that they might otherwise not

I'm in agreement with most everything you're saying, Victor.
However, having now heard the album I know in my heart that if he changed Jabberwocky it could only be for the worse. He took the drops out of Crosswords and Come to your Senses, and the smaller drops out of Faces in the Crowd. If he was to take away 'the final drop', so to speak, and certainly the heaviest of the bunch, to do another slow jam like he has done already on CtyS, I don't think I could help but be a little pissed. These beat drops were a fairly prominent theme in his live shows and to have none of them make it to studio versions would be a bummer.
That said, I'm very confident the song will make it to release as is. I'll try to go into it open-minded all the same.

jabberwocky has the only drop i really care about. like victor said, the live versions are totally different. I love the studio versions, and haven't missed any of the drops. Butttttttttt the drop(s) in jabberwocky are so central to it.... i trust noah but i couldn't imagine the song without them

The CTYS jam was the first track we recorded . I wanted to record the breaks with Noah playing them , but he sed he felt the original breaks were enough & any fidelity gained would

The drops think in CTYS waS something I think that he just liked to use live to get people to

We did do an edit of CTYS too , but finally went with the full vibe .

aww. always love hearing the little details.
CTYS is my favorite on the album, no doubt. has an irresistable vibe. totally feel the mbv connection... that track (and the rest of them) landed in the goldilox zone. guaranteed to support life

While listening to this album I'm like a kid in a candy store. So many shapes and colors to choose from but i can only have one at a time. Boys Latin is a lollipop that I can't get to the center of and CTYS is the nougaty center of the album.
Even though I listened to a lotnof these songs on the boots I have no complaints. As Petek said people always think they're losing something when they're actually only ever gaining. This statement has actually changed my perception of a klot of music and other things. Was listening/watching the Psych fest boot and relishing how different the songs are in that environment. It helps u appreciate the studio versions more always in my opinion.
So good
Edit: I would do a list of the songs and their corresponding candies but... Heheh

Just saw your post pk. I think your enthusiasm and talent shows on this record and I find it heartwarming (?) that you had a good birthday last year while recording. There's definitely "magic" on this record that could only come from a place of honesty... And birthday cake. Hope you had just as good of one this year.
Funny you mention Pavlov. I always thought Noah was singing "get as far away from Pavlov as they could" at the end of Seq Circ. Followed of course by the howling dogs on the record. But as u tend to say, why wouldn't it be that way?

Also really cool to know that Noah would rather use the original drum breaks instead of playing them himself. Pretty humble of him since we know he's got mad drumming skillz

I've been having a difficult time putting the freebird away. the pacing of the album is just absolutely perfect. amazing ebb and flow. the hills and valleys. the ups and downs. 100% perfect flow/order. that is a thing of beauty.

I know this is a pretty unsavoury topic but why on earth would anyone freebird any record at this bitrate? It's like 2002 or something. I'm not actually complaining, I'm just baffled.

Also, nothing's stopping you from listening to the pre-album boots after listening to the album, I do that all the time with AC's records. all these posts about "clearing the boots from your mind" aren't really resonating with me, like pete said, they're 2 completely different (very good) vibes. the fact that pete is releasing a hi-fi mastered ATP recording just goes to show. once atp mastered/2nd ep/tix mix are out i will be infinitely content
cough cough

I'm a drummer myself, and I must say, Noah is absolutely incredible. Every time I listen to STGSTV my mind is always blown. His style is so unique, like his own crazy brand of jazz drumming.
When I got to talk to him after the concert in May, I told him how much of an inspiration to me he is as a drummer, and he was really taken aback. He said he didn't get told very often that he's a good drummer. I don't understand why his skills are not more appreciated

Absolutely! I'm always dumbstruck by his drumming on spirit. I once played chocolate girl for a friend who's a drummer. He's also only into very traditional forms of music, but his only comment was "he sure likes the hi-hat!"
I'm no drummer, so I don't understand the technical aspects very well, alls I knows is that guy's a monster behind the set.
Just had a thought (and Petek, feel free to pass this on), imagine panda's next setup being him behind his drums, cueing samples with one foot and singing.
There's a guy in Houston that goes by LIMB that does this kind of thing, but without the singing. Add panda's angelic tones to the mix and it'd be a mind-blower!

That's a damn shame, I'm a drummer too so if I ever meet him I'll make sure to tell him how much I love his playing. Not only is he technically skilled, but he's endlessly creative. I've always wondered how the hell he came up with the "backwards" beat on Did You See the Words, or the "playing card in your bike spokes" of Too Soon, or the echoing beat on Purple Bottle. Or any other drum track he's ever laid down. Shit is inspired

That would be cool as hell! You know, that's what Zach Hill does. All of the beats and Bjork samples on NOTM were played by him behind the drumset, with samples linked to the drums. PB could create a really crazy, sort of claustrophobic album by drumming in the STGSTV style with samples triggered by the drums. Or he could take a totally different approach and make something more person-pitch-esque, like a intricate web of samples and sing over top. The possibilities are endless!

Haha, I've never thought about it that way. I'm normally too caught up in the amazement at his speed of single strokes on the rims. I mean... howw..... does he keep that up ......... also, the delayed beat of purple bottle always amazes me as well. It's a brilliant beat

he said something abt realising from early on hed never be technically good at drumming (which is wrong) and that he then focused on making rhythms that complimented a song
