Interpretations of different Anco songs, I'm curious of what everybody else thinks of their songs and whether some of their songs have a deep meaning or not.

What about Bat You'll Fly, I am absolutely clueless to what this song means (if it has a meaning). My interpretation of it is completely blank, what does everyone else think?

I think Tropic of Cancer is about PB finding out about his father dying, not taking it seriously at first, and then dealing with life after his death

what the heck is this lyric about
"Dead or alive
These guys kill to live on
And you give up on the upside
Give it up on the other side"
Also scheherezade is clearly about panda's hate for illuminaiti.

ugh I hope not...that would be awful. I always interpreted "these guys kill to live on" as the cancer cells.

to me, i've always understood that "these guys" are the cancer, "giving up on the upside" is giving up on hope, and "the other side", well, pretty straightforward.

Crosswords seems to be anti-religion? Am I the only one getting that?
I do love that it's literally cross (annoyed) words and/or referring to the religious symbol.

crosswords to me seems, much like come to your senses, a shot at critical listeners trying to tell him what they want from his music, and him telling them to stuff it

but maybe it's just too easy to lump on the meta interpretations

Could be. I just got it mostly from the "cripple on his feet again, you say."

When I listen to crosswords I get the most straight up greaper imagery.
like the first verse is sung from the perspective of the greaper,
"Ain't fate
Just me
Come a cropper for the weak stuff that you stew
Ain't fate
Just me
A cripple on his feet again you say"
he's referring to noah as the cripple, who in the song pervious had a hard time getting out of bed unless he felt like it's justified. But then he sees the greaper and suddenly the cripple is on his feet again saying,
"Stay there
While I move
Stay scared
While I improve
But it don't mean I'll do it like you want me to
But it do mean I'll do it like you need me to
But it don't mean I'll do it like you want me to"
The greaper stays still, but he's still following panda, right behind, watching him. He starts to become envious of Noah, living his day to day life.
"So good
So good
You got it so good
So good
So good
Damn it so good
So good it's so good
So good
Get it day to day
Day after day
So good"

come to your senses I think is about making mistakes, you get mad at yourself for fucking up, but you can't take it back, and it goes in "the one and all" (time/existence) and will be there forever. And you'll make the same mistakes in some ways no matter what you do.
actually NO, you guys are right, it seems like it's about making art, and never being able to recreate what you've made in the past.
For me personally the mistakes interpretation resonates more right now....

damit i didnt see this thread when i posted this in pbvsgr 2 secs ago:
so p much about "opening the veil"
also nadir literally means the lowest point in someones life so maybe the revelation could be a shattering one
wrote:

no its not a song its just noise is the type of revelation i think hes hinting at
seeing things so clear as just a clash of frequencies uno
ull trip up again meaning ull get caught in the illusion of not seeing things as clear again? i had a dream where i comp[letely understood this song and ive been infatuated with its meaning ever since

To me that song sounds like he's talking to his daughter about the way men treat women.

I feel the same way, although I think it could just be applied more broadly to taking control of one's own decisions and not letting others dictate your life.
I posted this in the PBvsGR lyrics/tabs thread a while back, but I see some parallels between these lyrics in Crosswords and Bros:

What do ya'll think about Peacebone? It's one of my favorite Collective songs yet I have no clue what that would be about either. I can't seem to find anybody with a valuable explanation for those lyrics.

Almost certain Avey has said it's just a bunch of lyrics designed to stir up vivid imagery.

Yep. Here's a Davey quote about Peacebone from the wikipedia page for SJ:
Code: Select all
"I'm just blending together visual images from different places. [...] But it always comes back down to the chorus, which is about having an obsession with the past, which is something I'm not into in terms of culture. Music should be more than just something to stomp to - it should be more interactive. For us it's not always about just writing a good song - we wanna play with your ears in terms of colours and space with sound."

Whoa, awesome quote. That seems to describe a lot of Animal Collective's music, for me at least. What about a song like Crimson? it seems to tell a story of some sort involving an eagle, but the lyrics don't become directly understandable until the end when aver sings about why people talk, I love the ending lyrics. But I have no clue what all the verses are about

Crimson is about survivin'
The last bit doesn't really fit in lyrically with the rest of the song. I also have no idea what putting your pamphlet out in the open means, or who was down in their tennis court

Yeah it seemed like it had something to with survival of some sorts. And yes I completely agree lyrically the last bit is quite random actually, never really knew why they decided to go into that part, regardless i love it. Lion in a Coma seems like an interesting bunch of lyrics eh? ehh? All the lyrics seem to detect some sort of stressful situation for somebody, but i don't know what the lion or the coma represent

I think you're intrepreting it too literal and trying to figure inspiration more than interpretation.
He's speaking to 'someone' who has given up when things are becoming better while others in a worse position are 'dying' or losing theirselves to be where that person is at. Then Noah asks for that person to only give up when they are indeed actually deceased.
It does become apparent he's speaking of his father, or we can presume so much considering the title of the song and our fanboy/girl knowledge of his personal life. However, I'm weary of boxing in this or any song to "This is a song about his dead father". Doing so takes the poetry out of the prose. We can easily apply the characters in his his writing as archetypal motifs that are aspects of Noah's inner world.

I dunno... That seems like a projection. I think we could broaden it to Noah saying, "Let me do me while you do you."
