This might be premature, but I thought it'd be cool to have a thread to discuss some predictions on what's going to go down with the next AC album. People who have talked to Panda after shows said he stated they would be getting together to write/record in a month or so.
I hope panda stays on the drums, but changes the setup again for a new sound that can be more in the front of the studio and live mixes. Loved the percussion on chz, but both live and studio it felt downplayed.
I'm guessin avey will be rockin the guitar a lot since he's still kind of riding out of slasher flix stuff, but maybe he'll come up with something totally new.
Deakz the wildcard for sure on the next album, honestly not sure what to predict he might add, since that will depend on what all the other guys decide to do.
Just some off the top ideas/thoughts, share yours! Or point me the right direction if this thread already exists/doesn't need to exist.

Idk about Deakin being a lock. If he enters a second AC album cycle without finishing his Mali stuff I'll be a bit bummed.

why does everyone always think the 'next' anco record is gunna be their last? There is no reason to think that. Didn't panda say AC is a lifelong project for him? And I'm pretty avey has said something similar as well. I kno they have been spacing out their releases longer since their early days, but I'd say that's due to relationships/families and the fact that they live very far apart.
But as for the next album... I'm hoping for more panda/avey harmonies, less vocal effects, and more acoustic instrumentation coupled with all of the other samplers/electronics (a la some of the oddsac tracks- mr fingers, working, tantrum barb, what happened). I'm kinda hoping for some very abrasive and dark soundscapes but wouldn't mind if they go back to classic happy/cheerful AC vibes .

From the Grim Reaper thread:

Yea I read that too but am thinking he misinterpreted 'getting together for the next album' as recording. If they ARE recording next month I'd be happiest person on the planet. But seeing as multiple other people said Noah said they are writing next month, I doubt they will record this soon

So, we believe that AC is getting together next month to write, rather than record? Not that I don't believe you, Sam, but I'd want to find the source for that. Was in the Grim Reaper thread?
It would make sense—as we all know, AC usually tours with material before recording it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they record C Hz before touring? I thought they recorded it in January '11 and then starting playing C Hz songs live later that year. So it wouldn't be unprecedented for them to record before touring.
Sorry that I'm ignorant of some of these details. Y'all are more knowledgeable than I am
As far as what I'd like to see: I honestly would love another all-electronic, sample-based album. I wouldn't be mad if it was kinda like this: Person Pitch : MPP :: Grim Reaper : AC Studio Album X

Also... I think we will get an animal crack box vol 2 or something similar before their next studio album. Didn't avey say in a bunch of slasher flicks interviews that they had a bunch of old live recordings of songs they wanted to release?

getting in on the ground floor of a thread that will take years to be carried to completion. i'm hoping for more of a dance influence honestly, judging by the DJ sets

No they got together and wrote a bunch of CHz songs from January-March 2011, then toured, and then sat down and wrote a few more songs, then recorded, toured, released the album and toured again. They've never recorded an album before touring the material beforehand.

Yea victor it was from the grim reaper thread! I'm just going off of what other people have said. I'll try to find all of the people who said that and quote it but I'm on my phone at the moment and stuff in that thread is buried due to how large it is. Once I'm home on my computer I'll look around the thread.

Speaking of their DJ sets, did they just throw the "From a Beach" vocal track in there for shits and giggles or are they actually planning on releasing a version of that?
If so, that song would have survived three eras. Damn.

Yeah, honestly I'm just too lazy to dig through that thread and find the quotes haha... but I remember hearing the same as you. I don't mean to complain. I appreciate all of your guys' attention to detail and fact-checking

Definitely think "recording" in October might be a misunderstanding. If I remember correctly, someone asked Dave and Josh (in Miami I think) about the next step for AC and the response was that they've been swapping ideas over email and would be getting together to write in October.
Plus Noah has been recording/touring all year, Dave has been touring with Slasher Flicks, Josh is working on his release(s), they've been doing DJ tours...doesn't really seem like an entire album's worth of new material would be ready for the studio.

I think the new panda bear stuff is definitely going to influence the new AC greatly. Similar to how Person Pitch did to MPP. Also I think its sick that they've all been using the Octatrack, at least Geo, Panda and Avey. Wonder if they've been emailing stuff back and forward. Hoping for an album with a lot of Panda Bear songs. Feel like this one could be the most electronic of all of them. Like, the least tied in what we think of as instruments. Think that PC Music is probably influencing them greatly too.
Could see this one being super poppy and synthetic and goofy and I hope Panda raps.

I agree that they are probably going to be writing next month, as opposed to recording, but regardless I would definitely be interested to hear the results if they just went straight to recording before playing any of the songs live. Would totally run counter to their way of operating for the last 15 years tho, so probably not likely.

it would be pretty neat if PBVSGR ended up influiencing the new album, that's honestly one of the best AC related sets i've heard in a minute. part of me is hoping it'll be a little more offbeat than the "rock band" approach was on CHz.
it's a long shot but maybe some of the sounds dave was playing with bjorn copeland at the getty center show could end up with AC if they're not already being used? they played a song about fifteen minutes into that show that might be really neat if handed off to the boys

Totally feel you on this. Thankfully (and everyone here knows this) they've specifically stated that with each album they want to avoid sounding like the last

I sorta want them to get away from the pop structures they've been doing for a while and try longer, more patient jams. I know they've done that in the past on their earlier albums, but it'd be interesting to see how they approach that kinda thing now.

would rather deakin didn't sing
would like at least 1 song w/ overlapping vocal parts
would be happy w/ mainly avey songs as long as noah is doing fairly prominent backing vox

maybe if it sounded more ~fluid~ and less bitty
kinda just want to listen to loch raven again tho, if someone can make that seamlessly repeat for ~50 mins or so...
would go for something that sounded like atiba song tho too

I wouldn't mind seeing From A Beach / Maya on it. They've been including it in those Mixcloud sets recently. It's a great song even though it's kinda old now.
Oh man, this would be really awesome. I could easily see them go in that direction.

Last time, they got together Jan-March 2011(as DAD mentioned) and then played in April. If they get together in Oct, I wonder when the earliest is we'll see them perform in live shows. Me hopes Jan/Feb, but I don't know how that falls into the Grim Reaper schedule. If Noah ends up playing more shows around album release time, maybe it'll be a little after that.

I always hoped they further explored the sounds they achieved in brother sport: dancey, brazilian influenced, jammy and highly energetic. Looking at their last projects I really doubt they are going that way though hahaha. Anyway I'm very looking forward to whatever they come up with, is it too early to be hyped?

Id like an album thats nice and pretty, fluid and dark. Theyve had some nice piano pieces in songs before, itd be cool if they did even more. What I want is real different from what theyve been doing recently haha, but theyve done unexpected things in the past so who knows!
I remember reading somewhere about the new album releasing late 2015/early 2016, so its good to know that theyre gonna start writing soon. I was thinking that theyd need to get on that if they wanted to tour before release!

I'd like to see Noah incorporate triggering his Octatraks through percussion pads in addition to drumming. Keep the bongos, ditch the shaker and the metal cylinder from the drum kit. Bring back the hi-hat and a floor tom.
I'd like to see Dave play an upright piano with samplers and effects sitting on top...maybe bring back some Spirit vibes.
Brian and Josh can keep doing what they're doing...loved their parts on Centipede Hz I hope Josh keeps his percussion pads and Brian keeps his Moogs.
I agree about less Deak lead vocals, honestly...I'd like to hear three-part harmonies though....
Songs I'd like to see revived:
anything from Spirit or Danse Manatee
Winters Love
Safer
Banshee Beat
Fireworks (imagine this with piano....jesus)

Well Oddsac is there 10th in my mind becuz that's what the band wanted but the media didn't give it much attention because it was also a movie. Which is the reason I think CHZ didn't make sense to some people, because they never heard or saw Oddsac.
