Hey Sorry thot this would get more airtime in general talk, but if mods wanna move it to live discussion that's cool...

I've been obsessed with AC live shows for awhile, and enjoy compiling what I think are some the best performances and recordings, and wanted to break it down by song and album, here are two:

I'd love to hear what other folks think are their favorite performances of these tunes!

SJ
Peacebone - Lux Fragil 08 (pretty much blows all other live versions away)
Unsolved Mysteries - Melkweg 07
Chores - Melkweg 07
Reverend Green - Tavastia 06
Allman Vibe (Fireworks) - Paradiso 05 (This recording has some blowout but the performance is amazing, and this is raw, proto fireworks. There are a couple of recordings floating around, but the one that credits the song as Allman Vibe is much better)
#1 - 9:30 Club 07
Cuckoo - Variety Playhouse 06 (this show may be the all around best when the band was at their all around best...)
Derek - Melkweg 07 (this show is just packed with treasures)

MPP
Dancer - Hove Festival 08
House - Hove Fest
Frightened - Melkweg 07 (This show rivals Variety Playhouse for maybe best ever..)
Bearhug - Melkweg (This is my favorite version of my fave AC song, AV's screams are perfect..)
Daily Routine - Lux Fragil 08 (for some reason this show has the most amazing sound clarity)
Bluish - somebody help me on this one! (the Montreal recording sucks balls)
Guys Eyes - Paradiso 09
Taste - BBC Session 09 (rivals the album version, I like it slow, but this live fast version is amazing)
LIAC - Paradiso 09
No More Runnin - 9:30 Club 07 (this was my first boot hearing mpp material, so good)
Brother Sport - 9:30 Club 07

anyone wanna try Feels era???

I don't have time to do more this more comprehensively right, but I will throw out a few out there:

Good Lovin Outside - 2005 BBC Session version is one of my favorites
I Remember Learning How to Dive - 2004 Other Music. As I'm sure many agree the entire Other Music recording is a must-listen.
Taste - 2011 hip hop version is so great

the Purple Bottle performance from the T in The Park festival is a mandatory listen for anyone getting into AC, same with the Reverend Green performance in that same show. really wish there was a full boot of that, if not just a setlist.

only other live versions/cool things i can think of off the top of my head are the "We Tigers" video where everyone in the room was jumping and screaming along with Avey, and 2007 Hey Light.

wow amazing list texas trill! looks like i got to check out the Lee's Palace show and The Henry Miller show big time. I love the Malta fest stuff and that version of Safer has the most amazing energy; do you know where I could get just the audio? I've been watching it for years but have never ripped it.

I too also love the I think I can/chores combo from Gov. Isle; we works it so smoothly!

Thanks for all these great live B side sources!

Also, I am obsessed with 09 Slippi, esp Paradiso boot, IMO one the best reworked old songs they've ever done

also I forgot about that T in the park vid of rev green! def the best

I'm with you on not really being so into the 2011 CHz era boots, but i'm trying; the one where they played at Merriweather PP is pretty okay...does anyone know which is the definitive CHz 2011 show, in terms of performance and audio recording? the sound in most of the boots is just plain bad... are the days done when fans could record this band in beautifully intimate settings?? there's always Av's solo shows i guess....

i don't know where i got the malta audio from. probably from the days when i used to hunt down ac boots like crazy in my teenage years. i just ended up uploading it onto mediafire for you. here ya go my man:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/lt7q2 ... /Malta.zip

i believe the henry miller show is a soundboard recording, but it sounds pretty compressed, which makes the songs sound more mellow and hazy to me (which i actually dig). lots of cool segues (similar to lux fragil) especially the bleed into wwiws. lee's palace is probably my favorite recording of 2004 (of feels songs that is, the other music and the noah/josh tokyo shows are both really sweet too). that recording is pretty good quality

off the top of my head, i would also recommend the route du rock and arts place shows from 2005. the quality is pretty bad/average for them, but if you can get over it the people > turn into something from arts place is amazing as is the banshee beat and turn into something from route du rock.

also if you haven't ever listened to the satellite ballroom show from 2007, give that a download. definitely a hidden gem. at least for me. avey sounds pretty psyched the whole time and both him and noah do some cool vocal effects during some of the segues

I've heard some people swear by the 2011 Pitchfork festival performance. I've only listened to it once or twice, but it sounded pretty great to me, audio quality-wise. As far as performance quality, it's top-notch. It was probably the biggest crowd they'd played to up to that point, since they were headlining. I was present and it was a blast

You know I never thought that they played spirit live cuz that was mostly "studio" material. But I remember I saw a flyer for a show dated 2000 that said Avey Tare and Panda Bear that had me doubt that notion they never played Spirit live. I'd love to be proven right or wrong.

hoyl crap y'all have to listen to the 3 minute jam at the beginning of WCWAR on the Henry Miller boot; shit is really great. I never thought I'd be into a jam band, and never really considered AC a jam band, but they do have their moments of controlled/rehearsed improv, and they do it sooo well.

what are some of the best AC jams/controlled imrov you've ever heard?

the intro to Paradiso 09 Fireworks/labakely also comes to mind...

this show has a sweet extended intro for father time. it seems like it is being improvised on the spot, but i could be wrong

other cool one-of-a-kind improvs that i can think of:
arts place 2005. people > turn into something > loch raven. the transition into loch raven is some of the most peaceful, blissful AC i can think of
route du rock 2005. the long intro to banshee beat at the beginning of the show sounds very much like seal eyeing. also the turn into something from that show has a cool jammy breakdown half way thru
lux fragil 2008. the ending of essplode back into fireworks has one of my favorite vocal improvs as dave repeats "it's time now to rewind the tapes" with a ton of raw emotion
prospect park 2011. dave and noah have a pretty hilarious back and forth vocal jam at the begining of brother sport. it can best be seen on the bonus dvd to chz
danforth music hall 2013. this is a daveless show, so the rest of the band members made up for that by jamming the intros to the songs. comfy in nautica is especially cool. as is the intro to my girls

the beginning of wwiws in the 2013 festival ceremonia show in mexico is pretty sweet. not sure i heard anything all that similar at any of the live shows i attended since they've been playing it, nor on any of the boots i've listened to; and that covers a decent number of shows.

Dear AC geeks,

I am desperate.
I am sure you all know the Henry Miller Library soundboard recording from 2009. It is great and all, but there's a song playing after the last song of the set (No More Runnin') and I HAVE TO find out what it is. The set is over, some guy announces that the show is over and that there's a party afterwards and then they play this really sweet tune! Its a female singer, sounds Asian, but cant put my finger on it.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks!!
Jan

P.S.: I tried Shazam already...

I always liked this one best, mostly because of how clearly you can hear the drumming
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWlHtiF0IN0

But the best lablakely dress->fireworks has to be this, mainly just because of the transition between the two, plus panda's vocals in lablakely:
http://www.npr.org/2009/05/11/103811402 ... in-concert
This also has probably the best Daily Routine.
