Are you the guy that stayed with us after the Animal Collective concert at Austin City Music Hall?? If so, we need to do that again. If not, disregard. It was me and three other friends and we ate breakfast the next morning.

Also, I'm going.

I've never been to Austin, so meeting up with people who know the city would be nice. I'm recalling memories of going to cleveland by myself for an AC concert and getting lost afterward in a snowstorm trying to find where i parked my car.

That wasn't me but it sounds like a great time. I've only been to Austin once and it was for Psych Fest this year. I did make it to the Mohawk for the kick off show with Night Beats. I remember there being two stages inside and out. If that's the case, will this be outside?

record it too! 2 different recordings won't hurt...especially depending on where you both stand for the show

I stick my H2 in my pocket with the mic exposed but my pants are tight so the recorder stays in place. Might not be that easy for a guy. I think Dylan (LHTD) has recorded in the shirt pocket. It's definitely better to have the recorder as high as possible but for someone with a handheld recorder (or not wearing a shirt with a pocket), it just isn't feasible or comfortable. If you do the shirt method, I would stand as still as possible so that the mic doesn't pic up your movement rubbing against the shirt. Is there a balcony in this place?

I usually get right up to the stage. That's probably not a great place to record from, eh? Any settings on this thing I should know about? I just got it.

If it's a good balcony then I would personally record there. At venues like Music Hall of Williamsburg and Bowery Ballroom, which aren't too big, the center balconies have great sound but aren't too far away from the stage where the recording would sound super distant. At Terminal 5, a super long venue where the center balcony is way too far away to get decent sound (and the sound on the floor is shit), I'll stand on the right side of the balcony by one of the speakers close to the stage.

I'm not sure how the H1 differs control and setting wise from the H2 but definitely lower the recording level. You might want to check the levels during the opener and see where you should set the number (definitely lower than the automatic 100) to avoid clipping.

Like DAD said, be sure to check your levels - you do not want to be "in the red"/too "hot"/too loud or bad distortion will occur, better to be too low than too high. If there's a "mic gain" switch like on the H2 set it to "low". Make sure your microphones are pointing in the right direction and like DAD said if it's in your pocket don't move around too much/clap/talk. It'd be worth it to read the owner's manual thoroughly.

Gonna bring my H2 also in case yours doesn't turn out

totally didn't think about mic gain...yeah LOW. probably the most important thing to do besides actually hitting record. also record at 120 degrees rather than 90
