avey vs panda!

avey and panda are in a heated competition!
in fact they've been competing since day one!
whenever one makes a solo release, the other does the same!
this goes for every release!
panda bear s/t (1998) vs. spirit they're gone (1999)
fatcat split (2003) vs. young prayer (2004)
person pitch (2007) vs. pullhair rubeye (2007)
tomboy (2011) vs. down there (2010)
and now there's going to be new releases (slasher flicks and panda's new album) in 2014!
so who's winning? the panda of the davey??

avey's my favey
also if Jane and Terrestrial Tones don't count as solo projects then neither does Avey and Kría. Kría's a musician in her own right. I guess you listed Spirit too but I don't think Pullhair was ever intended to be a solo album.
lol, the fact that your list is in chronological order except the last one and it's Panda then Avey except for the second one makes me uncomfortable
anyway if you're gonna say "Avey or Panda" you gotta make a poll!

Spirit was 2000 btw. Plus I don't think you can point out the competition by release date, it's more the fact that they're so prolific and there are certain points where they aren't working on AC that they can both work on solo projects at the same time.
I'd probably pick Avey too but it's so close.

Deakin's going to beat them both with the solo album he's been working on...

I'm not sure who would win if avey and panda were to duke it out to the death. Maybe Avey. I feel like Panda would be too passive and not as aggressive or as scary as Avey in his crocodile outfit. Panda would throw waves of reverb and delay at avey though, that might be his only power, and he could possibly trap Avey in a forcefield of choir-boy vocals, but Avey would break through them with his sharp screams, and then clobber him with twisty wordplays. Noah might be able to come back at the end with a tomboy gender fake-out sneak attack, seducing avey and paralyzing him with the death stare he gave deakin in that van interview. But in the end Avey in a shamanistic ritual of sorts could summon the Swamp Thing and pull Noah "down there" into the underworld as Avey rides off cackling in his flesh canoe.
Too bad Celebrity Deathmatch isn't around anymore, this would be a perfect episode.

If I don't take AC releases into account its probably Panda Bear to be honest (I'm counting Spirit as an AC release).
I really like Down There but Person Pitch is better than most proper AC albums. And Young Prayer is nice too.
Seems like a strange conclusion to reach though because its obvious who the better songwriter is.

i like dave's solo output more but i think panda is winning at life
he's got a wife and 2 kids, collaborated with fucking daft punk, does soundtracks for fashion lines, guest-sings on his buddies' albums
what does dave have goin 4 him?
he's divorced and lives in a swamp cave w/ crocodiles n shit and he writes songs about outlaws and murder
noah's just like "have a good time breh"

and dave's like

wah my friends have cancer ugh bleh (scream) roses on the window, etc etc etc

Panda for me. Person Pitch is just too good.
But I still love Avey, of course.

I assume Tico was referring to his big post, not "pan-lanvin-da bdior". I was referring to the big post anyway.

In my opinion that's a clear 3-1 to Panda. Not that it really matters, they both contribute to the best band in the world.

I don't know how anyone could say Panda is a "much better" songwriter than Avey considering he writes almost all of the band's music.

because his style of writing is more straightforward than aveys and some people prefer that when they listen to music..
for me its a mood thing

avey can be a little overwrought sometimes i think, but he's a much better storyteller. i do prefer panda though since he can get right to the heart of things very succinctly.
but then you put them both together and its magic *_*

It's not really more "straightforward." Today's Supernatural is more conventional than any song on Tomboy, even.
Edit:
Welllll maybe besides You Can Count On Me

I feel like that's caricaturing them a bit though, I wouldn't say Panda's music is necessarily more accessible than Avey's. Obviously Avey's split fatcat release is crazy but Young Prayer doesn't seem that much more accessible. Pullhair Rubeye [re-reversed] / Person Pitch and Down There / Tomboy seem pretty evenly accessible too.

I think all the AC-related solo releases are pretty accessible. The only AC that you'd call inaccessible would be HCTI and backward (with the exception of ODDSAC), perhaps Sung Tongs as well.

Yeah. And the song even. To me,"Winter Wonder Land" is more accessible than "#1" for instance.
