"Drone" synth sound?

Does anyone have any insight into the synth/pad sound PB used for "Drone"? It's so glassy/chrome-y/lazer-y and wonderful, it would be nice to play around with a similar texture.
I remember there was a fellow who posted a cover on Ütube waaay back in 2011 that sounded very close to the og sound, but like most things, it has been lost to the aeons of time. So if any of y'all know what's good with it, I'd very much appreciate the knowledge.

I assume it's a bunch of sawtooth waves? Those always sound good and "buzzy"
Maybe a lot of them layered to get overtones and that phasey kind of sound
There's a sawtooth bassline on both of these tracks, and I love them:
You can generate sawtooth waves even in a free programme like Audacity. It's a bit time-consuming though, so maybe try it with a "proper" synthesiser.
I have very limited knowledge about actual equipment sorry.

I think you’re mostly right, Hash. Sawtooth and/or Square-waves with different filter settings to those thick, full tones, probably played with monophony turned on. Noah made most of Tomboy with a Kong M3 synth/sampler so it’s conceivable the sounds were presets that Noah adjusted. That said, I think pretty much any synth with a few LFOs could make something similar.

ah is monophony setting where it switches from one "note" to another with no overlapping sound? because yeah absolutely, that's a huge part of the appeal of that song I think
it's a KORG M3, just in case that makes a websearch any easier

the letter n even looks like the letter r so you could make the same mistake with handwriting it as well, ffffuuuuuu
no wonder it's written in all caps
edit: I just read the origin of the word on Wikipedia now lol, why did I even do that, what a fucking nightmare the internet is at this point
