I like it, I back it.
hard to give feedback on this ep tho since it's just an explanation of the podcast.

Cheers. I just thought it was important to break down the philosophy of the podcast before going too far ahead.

I didn't want to be too egomaniacal and give the definitive assessment on Lablakely Dress without inviting some thoughts from the forum. Hope to have someone ideas to bounce off.

When I buy a new computer I will have guests.

Hahaha that got a few big laughs out of me. Very good. Looking forward to more. You could post this on the subreddit, you'd have guest submissions coming out your arse.

Where are you from Stan? Lancashire? Manchester? Sheffield?

Let's just say I got lost on Snake Pass. My accent is basically all over the place from travelling and living around and about.

Glad you enjoyed some of it. I will make notes in future, I just decided today is the day. I've posted it on the subreddit and I'll see if I get a ban off the back of it.

Hopefully people will leave some thoughts on Lablakely Dress for me to bounce off.

I completely forgot about Visiting Friends. Seems tasteless in the current Covid climate but I will definitely discuss these suggestions on next week's pod.

Another White Podcast is a fucking excellent self-deprecating title, but my undoubted favourite is Ahhh Good Podcast.

If it pick that, I'll buy you a beer one day.

I might have to make the podcast title discussion a Patreon subscriber bonus episode so there's enough time to discuss Lablakely Dress.

Podcasting With

I'd recommend starting with songs there are multiple versions of (i.e. Banshee Beat, Taste) or involves a lot of improvisation live (Fireworks, Pulleys, Guys Eyes). Especially if the aim is to hit an hour with each episode. Not filler per say but it'd be easy to fill the time while you get your sea legs. Look forward to future episodes!

Cheers for the suggestions. I'm not sure about the hour length, that was somewhat of an off the cuff joke, given how thin the premise of the podcast actually is but I'll see where we go with it. A ten-year commitment is quite a lot considering I barely keep in touch with my friends and family, but the prospect of doing this is currently very interesting to me. Would love to have guests at some point, maybe if I get a computer.

Can I also say I absolutely pissed myself at 'what a terrible idea for a podcast'. Definitely going into the feedback section.

Will be hard to do without a computer for sur. You'll need to edit and to incorporate some songs (maybe live version of them) in the pod I think. And yes guest are a must I think.

Something that just occurred to me is what if we made this show a relay race of sorts? Collected being the operative word of CA why not apply the same concept to the podcast. Perhaps we could establish a core group of podcast hosts and regiment some kind of regular weekly release. On top of that why not tap into the wealth of AC covers this community has done, it doesn't have to be purely promotional but I think there is something special about how inspired the band has gotten us fans. Spitballing entirely here

OK, I'm very willing to delay the first episode, so we can discuss this properly. I think it's a great idea for many reasons.

One, sustainability - I will run out of interest in about a fortnight. Two, quality - people will make more of an effort to make contributions good if they feel it's shared. Three, it'd be much more interesting and entertaining in the longer run to have a range of hosts and guests and so on. Four, there are a lot of talented people here who could give it some shape and character beyond just speaking into a phone. Five, I need to buy a computer really for many reasons so it might prompt me to do that. Six, it would eliminate biases so the less favoured albums would also get covered. There are lots of reasons why it's better.

If all I succeed in doing is getting this off the ground and letting others run with it, great. And being an occasional host and/or very special guest.

So, let's get serious.

______

Talking Business:

I think even with a revolving series of hosts and guests, there does need to be a uniformity to the structure, etc.

Things that are really crucial to me:

- Community feedback on the song being covered, either from here or reddit, or FB which I don't use. I think that's the core of the show, the host/guests giving insights and opinions on the song but also bouncing off other community members' impressions.

- Some actual research into the song, context, background, etc. I don't think it needs to get into specifics of notation and the like, unless someone can involve that in an engaging way, I couldn't, but placing it in context as best we can. I think that's a useful way to set context for the episode, as well.

- Community questions. Again, nothing mind-blowing here but it's a great way of getting people involved, it will broaden the range of perspectives and it may make for some entertaining chat bouncing off some different ideas. If it were just down to me, for example, I'd never discuss 'my favourite song from PB's self-titled' or 'best background sound from CHz' or whatever it might be.

All of this is open for discussion but these are the fundamentals for me.

______

I appreciate that this whole thing is probably about a decade late in the grand scheme of popularity etc but I feel like as a band they're definitely on the up again and they've done some brilliant stuff in recent years. This is a great way to take stock and look back while we're in this Covid lull. Also, I'll be in effective lockdown for the next six months besides work so I'll be more inclined to do this.

Cheers for the suggestions Dallou, Fov and denjanenna. Cans, I'm going to look on eBay for a second hand laptop. I assume I don't need anything fancy.

I should also just say that I'm conscious that this board is a lot less active than the 'old days' but this is the roots of the AC community to me. If the podcast were simply called 'Collected Animals', that would be very apt. Obviously, that'd be for the site owners/originators etc to decide.

I think that it might also be a great way to reach out to some former/less active members to engage with them, too.

" Some actual research into the song, context, background, etc. "

at this point this is the only thing I'm interested in (sharing at least). others are way better at expressing what speaks to them about any particular song

Well, that's a really significant part of it and I know you've already done a tonne of work with the interview archives. If that's something you'd be interested in contributing (obviously there's no expectation on how often you would do such a thing), that would be brilliant.

Also, having slept on this, I think there's definitely something to be said for actually taking a whole album or EP at a time and packing it with quality discussions and insights. I think it would make for a much better quality show than me waffling off the cuff.

I don't know. Anyone got any thoughts on weekly vs monthly or maybe fortnightly? It's not something that will likely build much of an audience, and I have no aspirations to do so, so a less frequent higher quality show seems much more interesting to me. There would be less bullshit, more Animal Collective discussion.

Ahhh Good Podcast is one of the funniest names for an animal collective podcast i could fathom. also thanks for doing this. i cant wait. i think 2 weeks is real good, as long as there is pure animal collective discussion for ac heads i can never complain. i am frothing at the mouth for this podcast and the discussion on songs since ac songs are usually stupid complex not only in strucutre but in the amount of shit going on and thats not even talking about the lyrical and contextual sides of the story. holy fuck this is awesome. and ur british the scum made me cry

Ahhh Good Podcast is my favorite.
The best would be to have 5 CA posters talking about it for 20 30 minutes on zoom, convo style. I mean that's what I would like to hear.

Hey everyone, apologies for the stalling and crapness at replying to PMs. Work has moved up several gears recently and I'm working working round the clock covering for colleagues isolating or ill. I have no time frame for when I'll get back to this and any promises would be based on optimism or lying but I really appreciate all the support and the PMs. I have lots of ideas and enthusiasm but minimal time or energy at home. I'll be back, though. Fuckin Covid. Stay safe and well x
