Album status update

I’ve been going back and forth with Dave on IG and got some updates on where they’re at on it. So obviously the virus put a delay on it. He said they were just getting ready to record the album when the stay at home order was put into place and that they are just waiting on the studio to open back up. He said he’s hoping it won’t be too much longer. Also he suggested that meanwhile while they’re waiting for that to happen, “I think we are good at adapting so we will stay up to something”

seems like the studio could open up before travel, esp for panda from Portugal, could take longer? hmmmmmm. was just thinking this morning that I wish they'd recorded it right before all this happen. seems strange for songs to just sit on ice for a bit, esp when they're sooooooo good. but they'll still be good whenever..

I was actually hoping this was the case. That post-quarantine, post-pandemic energy is going make for some amazing studio sessions, not to mention THE TOUR!

^^ absolutely. "defeat", as both song and situation, is the unequivicable theme of 2020.

I've suspected for awhile now that they are actually working on multiple releases - the studio album and presumably the MBV set. My guess is that Noah is going to work on another Panda Bear album (Sinister Grift?) while the other guys work on the MBV release.
Pure speculation, of course.

Avey said they have17 songs in total. Hope we get to hear everything
Im worried the songs will change too much and we’ll all be struck down by the demoitis again ;(
Hopefully whatever changes they make are for the better

AD: What can we expect from the new Animal Collective?
Avey Tare: It’s crazy because it just goes to show you how time is moving and changing now. In January even, I would have been able to say one thing about it, but I’m so affected by my immediate situation and where I am and how I’m feeling that I feel like that stuff – We have 17 new songs that we’re messing around with, or at least that’s where we left off. We had a jam session in January to keep working on some stuff because figuring out studios and the way we wanted to go about recording the new record was taking a little bit of time. We just wanted to keep playing and working on new music. We’re working on a lot of music, and we’re really psyched about it. It’s just a matter of figuring out how we can actually record it. In a certain sense for us, it’s more depressing and debilitating than having a tour be cornpilled. We have all this creative energy bound up. We’re used to living in the moment, and when stuff is fresh, getting in there and recording it. This is a test of our ability to hold onto the energy of certain music and sounds. We toured a bunch of the songs last October when we played Desert Daze and some other shows. It was really fun, and the crowds were responding really well to the new material. We’re feeling really good about it. It’s really fun to play live. Hopefully, as soon as we can get together, we can figure out ways of sharing it with people. Right now, it’s hard to say where it will go. I’m constantly reacting to what’s going on. That means songs could change. That song that we were playing in October that sounded one way could totally have a different feeling by the time we get into the studio.

That was a really great interview, it's cool that Miyazaki was mentioned because I've been revisiting a lot of his movies recently. Hearing studio Defeat after all of this will be the ultimate catharsis.

wow super good interview.
kinda sad to hear him say it feels weird to put recording these songs on hold (some of which are already almost 2 years old..) but I have faith. And I love the take others are having that this delay and stressful time will make theme even better and more magical than ever.

yeah really good intervew. ac songs always change, gotta have faith. they know how well the songs went down at the shows so I don't think they'll stray too far

slowly but surely this is mounting up to be one of their most interesting eras/projects. there are going to be so many forms of these songs and the entire era started at a show which we thought was gonna be one time performances. i'm so stupidly excited
