Hmmm..
Should we suspect a full band tour scheduled around this?
stereolab + AC.. sounds pretty great this far

ooo helll yea. seems to confirm that we have pretty good reason to suspect (speculation) they will be expanding on the material debuted at Music Box NOLA last year, will have started a new album/touring-cycle by October (centered largely around music box stuff), and panda has also been suggesting as much (as in he'll be there too)
helllll ya

Guessing because they won't be playing many dates around SoCal in the fall, either out of convenience or because of an exclusivity clause with the festival.
It could also be semantics having to due with the fact that Deakin wasn't on the last album cycle so a SoCal performance by the "full band" (according to them) hasn't happened in some years...highlighted in order to raise hype?
Hope this means we'll get some dates surrounding the festival. Also makes me think they'll record material this summer for the fall show(s).

What if they're recording in summer, limited fall tour followed by mixing and Spring 2020 release?

Desert daze has a slightly differently worded descrip: "exclusive southern California performance featuring the whole band"
Is there any reason to suspect it will be music we've yet to hear? Like Music Box and Coral Orgy when they were first played but something new? Or do you think it's more likely to be Music Box material reworked? Or past material? What do you guys think

Yeah, I would assume this will be all new material from the next record and I also kind of doubt it will involve music box stuff, at least not centrally, maybe a song or two or something like that.

"As for the group’s future, members plan on getting back together sometime in 2019 to work on new material based around a couple of live shows done in New Orleans last year. “We wanted to do something swampy and jazzy,” Weitz said."

would be cool/def possible but i'm not ruling out the album not coming till late 2020, early 2021, in the scenario that they only write/rehearse this summer, tour in fall, and don't record till early 2020. wasn't painting with recorded like feb 2015 and didn't come out till feb 2016? also there should be an avey ep late 2019/early 2020 (companion to cows) but idk if that factors in at all consider buoys and cows coming out at the same time

yeah almost forgot about that quote for a second
so yeah that said my guess now would be that
this new stuff would have to be mbv focused
oh boy I mean anything new give us the crack

I’m aware of that geologist quote but I still have trouble imagining they would base their next proper album cycle off of something like music box. I also think the recent panda bear quotes about next album make it sound more like songs are barely written/conceived of if if at all. Could be wrong!

I definitely feel like a bunch of MPP songs will be played! I am excited after reading some of PBs recent interviews about playing live drums again and wanting to shift over to AC writing for this summer. I’m just curious about the whole “rare” aspect. Worst case that’ll be the only show they do this year as AC or even if the whole show is reworked MPP songs.

all joking aside, i think you’re wrong ford, but speculation can be fun

not to be a downer but I REALLLY hope that no old songs are played especially MPP Ive seen enough of that.
hoping it just an expanded Music Box set with a couple Pbear songs thrown in.

I agree with you. Seems like it could've been taken out of context. I'm going to see Avey at Ottobar next month. I saw Deakin there last year and Geo was there just to hang out. So I wouldn't be surprised if both of them are there for Avey's show. Ottobar is so tiny that I think it'd be pretty easy to maybe ask some questions. So I'll try!

Having not heard the music box material, I'm willing to bet that the box jams and Panda's new jams will be jumping off points to see what stuff works as AnCo songs and what would work better as solo material. With new Geo, Deak and Avey stuff floating around from their solo work too, they have a TON of songs to experiment with.

3 nights? 3 sets? I'm assuming it's a normal fest and they'll slay a typical headline set on one of those nights. I'd LOVE if it were 3 nights of AnCo!!! I'd be there!

Haha, kind of a relief tbh. I don't want a career spanning set, I want the new shit. Seemed pretty unlikely that they would play a set of oldies after spending the summer writing stuff anyway.
