From Sonic on the past board
Spoiler: show
well , here goes . next installment to clear up the ums & buts & maybe chill u 4 a few ......
....... there was a time not so long ago that PB was loosely thinking of nixing this song on TB .But , when he gave me the lyrics , he also said it was his favourite lyric on the lp....

I found a discarded friendship bracelet on the floor at the studio the first day we started working on this record .
crude & brightly coloured & appealling .
I tied it to the handle of the PB hard drive as an omen & good luck talisman .
It's still there ..... I can't imagine to remove it now .
I notice it every now & then.
I think it works........pk x
:’)

tomboy IS the best.... pbvsgr is the worst. I don't count young prayer or LP1 cuz im a dum dum

also, I like the part where he mentions that he would swap out a few tracks on pbvsgr but they weren't done with those at the time.... so that could only be No Man's Land, Jabber, Lisbon Zoo and Cosplay right?

idk which id swap out but maybe id take out Tropic and Lonely and just make it STRAIT bangers, and then he could have a more chilled EP with tropic/lonely/cosplay maybe...

person pitch is obvious second. the highs on that record are insane (specifically bros) but tomboy has the consistency to put it at 1

PP the best for sure. It's perfect. Tomboy a close second

Honestly if Tomboy was mixed differently I would have no issue with placing it at #1. Really solid to amazing songs throughout, well sequenced, as PB said very complete sounding. But I cannot get down with the blurred, distant vocal sounds and the painfully cold and sterile drum loops. Like I said in another thread, if it had been produced in a more straightforward pop kind of way (like Buoys) it would be incredible.

i think the "cold" sound of tomboy works

reminds me of a big cloudy beach on a windy day

not ny fave tho

Tomboy is well depressing to me but maybe because I was dead depressed when it came out but that synth kazoo noise in the song Tomboy just makes me want to top myself, worst sound in the history of Animal Collective because it was just a Sonic Boom overdub, like a manure spreader ploughing through a field of tulips.

every panda solo album is a 4.5 or 5 out of 5 for me so i dont see the point in trying to rank them as a fan.

definitely super interesting to see panda re-evaluating his work sort of, though ive liked other artists doing this feature more than this one. usually they expound a bit more.

the only song tomboy's production did well to was benfica. song sounds fucking beautiful like that...

Damn even panda won’t get behind his s/t. I think it’s about as good as young prayer and reaper. Everything else is better

Have you heard the OG mix version of the album from the box-set? I haven’t listened in years but I remember it being deliciously lo-fi and crisp in comparison

Sonic's additions help tie certain pieces together - same here with the big piano chords in Crosswords (not in the ATP live boots), he helped focus just a few tracks that needed it..... i've always enjoyed the productions

duuude yes! this article makes me happy, it puts stuff in perspective - him always wanting to get out of PP's shadow. I had that feeling but hearing it confirmed was interesting. tomboy is definitely my fave album alltogether, feels like one of those albums where every song is at the very least decent if not fantastic and it flows well. i like the cold breezy quality it has, it relaxes me. PP would be my fave if only the tracks were more cohesive. they switch in and out of the kind of colder short tracks lile SFD to the long warm burn of gg/carrots and bros and i get kinda thrown off by the switch. unlike tomboy i find myself skipping around while listening. both leagues better than the others listed. i liked hearing noah's opinion

I am surprised it’s this close, TB must have just had a real vocal minority?

I love it and Alsatian Darn is def top 3 of his songs for me

The saddest thing to me is when people use naïveté as a derogative... I can easily see someone calling S/T naive, but that is a vital ingredient in what makes it so good. Naïveté is like the best thing ever as long as it’s not destructive.. it’s what we all loved so much about being little kids

I have no idea how Id rank the albums as they are all pretty different and mean different things to me, but if I could have one wish, it would be Tomboy with better production.
