Midnight Special

For me, this is up there with Banshee Beat and and Loch Raven and all that wondrous simmering erotic intense heartache that Dave does better than anyone I've ever heard.
wrote:
My heart is open to it now,
I like it to be so special to me,
but I can take it right now,
it's THRILLING me now.
These lines leave me shaking. There's nothing really to the song besides the incredible vocal and a guitar which hums menacingly and then builds to a growl during the chorus. There's like four chords in the whole thing, but they're devastating.
It's the heaviest song Dave has written since Laughing Hieroglyphic and my favourite since Banshee Beat. If it doesn't make it onto Couws, I just don't want it to pass unnoticed into the ether. Midnight Special, I love you.

Or one of the 10" tracks just to leap ahead to our next blindly hopeful and desperate conversation in a couple of months.

Update, it's not on the album but we will hear it again and it has been recorded!
He said with a name like that, it had to be on something darker
Amazing news!!! And what on Earth could that mean???

Very nice, thanks for asking. He probably has another whole album finished already. Or maybe it’s an Essence of Cows sort of thing. Did you only ask about this song?

Very happy to pass on the news.
And yes, I only asked about this one, partly because I didn't want to even ask this one question really, but partly because I don't actually know many of the songs that well. I've only listened to the boots a handful of times besides a few particular songs, so I'm excited about what's coming. This one hit me pretty hard straight away though like it did for a good few of us here so I just had to ask.

thanks for asking Stan! Just on the 10" then, maybe? or did he say it wasn't on the album or the single?
edit: wait, my bad, since he said "with a name like that" that implies it is still called midnight special. so not on the single then? wow, maybe he has an EP coming up after this! maybe a little something for the weekend while the boys are off recording their next album this summer

I actually got confirmation yesterday/the day before from Avery as well! maybe one of my fav interactions ever. I literally just sent him the chorus of midnight special with me "type singing" it like (my heaaaarrrrtt is open to ittt nowww) and I sat on that and then a few moments later he actually responded with the prayer emoji saying it won't be on the record but will be recorded and released! so amazing. also, he as well mentioned that kc yours was the first song from elsewhere since I told him that's where I heard most of the new songs, which means kc yours is derriere!!!!

03 Ono Lemonade
04 Saturdays
05 ** [2:51]
06 Derriere
07 ** [3:40]

Possibly on 10":

The Aging Heart = me in the bubble, right?
would never guessed that song as a opener

same, you're not the only one, seems so strange as an opener, i'm still skeptical despite the "why is it slow on the goodside?" lyric

New AC album is supposed to be swampy and jazzy right?
This has been saved for 'something darker' right?
Do the maths, pals.
This is definitely b2b with Defeat on the new AC, the best b2b since FRG & FWX.

Ya I like to think they will bookend the next LP. Would be v sweet. With every track in between being a Geo jazz solo

i'm erring on a side of Doggy pup says buh-bye is actually Defeat, but as psalm AC 3:22 states: "though shalt not preconceive notion of that which will be destroyed on release date" ...
I feel like there's a good chance, but I don't want to speak too soon and be wrong or whatever. Just thoughts! It's all fun and games until dog says goodbye right?

IG sent him some stuff saying they'll be shutting them down and first started with blocking photo posting. He's pulling our strings at the moment with everything going on but it'll be up soon enough, he'd be able to make a different account nevertheless.
Just John Olson being INZANE as usual. Good comedy.

Never fear - Dave has successfully found a way to ruin this song. Just heard the boot from his most recent show.
Love those brooding chords rising up like roaring waves? Replaced with some minor key jazzy wafting.
Feel like the vocals erupt like a boiling geyser of catharsis? Just sings a different shit tune now like he's singing you to sleep.
Full autotuned Defeat when

Yeah I must say I totally agree.. Dave’s creative decisions in this era where unbelievable to me, wish he had kept the songs as they where in the Mothlight concert in 2017, it could be a killer album, I loved that more electronic almost burial quality that the songs had. what he did with sew happy, taken boy, Desiree, and now midnight special is hard to understand...

I felt that way about Enjoy the Change on the cows tour, but was hoping it was just a tour band having fun sort of thing. Plus, no one else seemed to have issues with that change, so I have chalked it up to personal preference for the original earlier iteration rather than the circusy thing it became. We'll see what treatment it gets on the EP. I'd also rather have the orig Derriere lyrics, but the studio version of KC Yours is still really good, just thought the lyrics of the chorus could've been better. I haven't grown attached to Midnight Special as much (yet)... I should dive deeper, but now I'm scared.

i wonder why he changed the chords on this, it seemed pretty simple to just keep the chord progression, heck he singing the same words over and over. oh well, the only song i felt burned by before was taken boy, guess it wouldnt be ac if a song wasnt lost from live to studio. but disc 1 sounds almost the same...
