Peacemaker

Peacemaker is the shit! It's so god damn underrated.
I love the subtlety of it. It's my favourite song of the Painting With era.
I was in Lisbon when The Painters EP was released.
When I was leaving Lisbon sitting in the airplane, I put the EP on. And when Peacemaker came on it's like everything clicked. I was watching the airport staff out of my airplane window operating heavy machinery, weird machines on the track, people carrying our bags into the airplane. The music fitted so amazingly with what's going on. Every time I hear Peacemaker I think of that moment and the symbiotic relationship we humans have with machines. I know the lyrics aren't about that. AC is very visual. But man, that moment made me fall in love with that track.
This is a rather pointless thread. But I just wanted to give Peacemaker some love!
Peace.

Just today I was listening to my re-ordered PW album and thought that this is my favorite track from the PW era. It has a cool, funky vibe that's unique among all their songs. And those pitch-shifted vocals during the chorus really take it to the next level I think.

If they had swapped out Summing the Wretch and Spilling Guts for this and Kinda Bonkers, Painting With would have been one of my faves.

damn, those are two of my faves.

bagels in kiev should have been nixed for real, let's replace that one.

re: peacemaker, it's kinda bland and i think the hocketing has been well overused after two full albums of it if you count pbvsgr live sets. oof.

Peacemaker is my favorite song from that era as well. It has a much darker mature vibe Then anything else that came out of it. But it isn't just darkness, it is a sort of melancholy that conveys some sense of unrest and yearning, but in a really beautiful way. Just something about how it is sung, which seems really subdued and almost apathetic, with the chaotic swirling and hard beat of instrumentals which seem to swallow up the vocals as if to convey our own apathetic lost voices in these times of chaos through technology, media, and constant consumerist bombardment. I especially love the live versions! Glad others enjoy this one, it is really moving to me!

I think it's pleasant enough but it epitomises the relative quality of this era if you hold it up to anything from Prospect Hummer, Water Curses or Fall Be Kind, or even the Honeycomb/Gotham single. It's a mild diversion and at least goes for a different atmosphere to anything they've really done elsewhere, even if the hocketing is very tiresome by this point, to me.

^yeah, exactly. peacemaker is my favorite painting with era song, which to me just says a lot about my general feelings of the era since it doesnt even come close to most of their 2000s music to me

That seems harsh, people can like what they like even if the song is pretty much wallpaper.

It's a tie between this and Lying in the Grass for best hocketing song. But I agree hocketing got old by the end of this era and it definitely reduces the impact a bit. But it's done best in this song imo. I really appreciate the little details scattered throughout Peacemaker as well

love it. heavy mantra vibes. honestly find in the right headspace this era has so many delightful joys to share. structurally it's not as mysterious as other records, but it's when the fragments coalesce in rare moments of bliss that I find this PW era shows its mature beauty.
the whole gestalt of these bubbly edgy sounds communicate from that blissful melancholic zen space, where emotions are reserved and observed, only sometimes bubbling out of peacefulness into rapture. if one isn't "there" with them, it's like witnessing auditory shadows that are maybe interesting, but not delightful.
when I'm in that right zen space, this song, and PW, sound like seeing divinity and spaciousness in superficially mundane, mechanical, normal activity. nothing fancy, just *this*.

I had this ep on my ipod last year when i was starting to run again and i started my run with it for like 10 runs in a row. Its a nice little trail that goes along a creek next to a disc golf course and middle school

I've always liked this one. I think it does the hocketing thing effectively, but does it at a lower tempo so it feels a little less overwhelming. Like others have mentioned, I think if this one took the place of spilling guts & summing the wretch (I think the album needs someting a little slower by this point) it would have been better.

But y'all saying to nix Bagels are crazy. That's one of the best on the album for me.

painting with seriously wouldve been theyre sickest if it was recorded how they played it live. the last minute/minutes of lying in the grass 2017 and all of summin da wench live are testament to this...fk

Chz I don't care either way.

MPP is interesting because it's a unique production and so packed with sounds but it's also kind of awful, bloated, warbly, no top end, all cavernous mids. Even on an unbelievable setup, it sounds pretty fatiguing and muddy for the most part. Some songs are better than other. None of it is as good as the live shows.

The lyrics for this song are amazing, some of my favorite from Panda. The track overall is a big fave for me and seeing them open with it last year at the Empty Bottle show as super awesome. I don't really consider it hocketing either, Avey is like a human echo effect here, not finishing phrases. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought this song was something special.

Got sold steam it's landed right right
Right rose stop comes up to choke us
Knee jerk to the real jerk
Shades in shadows of a too great land
It's here

In the chaos of some billionaires
Some stink among the weeds
It's good to slather on the mantis
It's good to rest upon the clean
With a timber built from ages
Something stirs within the leaves and it can rest upon the paper
Not to keep the seat the same so get up in

Lost love cools
In fact it's only chance
Pray that it's gradually used to win
Lighten my love
Heat-up anger softens too
A whimper just gives in

Is this impulse grown from feelings
Or a cord within the spine?
A finger pauses on the fader
When it's clear the mix is fine
Upshot pot is good for steaming
Not for airing out the gear
A shielded garden gets no liquid
Just a window to the light so let it in

I might be completely off the mark but I think this song is about global warming and our effects on the environment. And trying to figure out if it's just a human trait to want to destroy everything

"Blinded by the heat of anger, soften to a whimper, just give in / Is this impulse grown from feelings or a code within the spine, The finger pauses on the fader when it's clear the mix is fine" - upset at this happening and lamenting about how it's human nature to want to change things when they're fine

"In the chaos of some billionaire, some stink among the weeds, It's good to slather on the messes, good to rest upon the clean" - we destroy the environment without thinking about it because we don't have to live where our messes are

"An image rests upon the paper, not to be perceived the same" - an image of what used to be rests upon what used to be a living object, no one knows what it used to be

"A shielded garden gets no liquid, just a window to the light"

I love not understanding the lyrics and sometimes I'll read them after years of hearing a song and only hear that for a while before starting to hear other stuff again. Its hard work I tell ya
