Potentially the earliest AnCo recording?
It was recorded in 1996 and was debuted on the O'Brien System May 29th

Interesting to hear them sounding more like Death Cab For Cutie than Animal Collective.

worth clarifying the superlative there—geo said it's the earliest recording of a song that ended up on an AC record. no reason to think it's earlier than the padington band 7"

So cool that Geo is using his show to slowly drop these tasty morsels in our ear-mouths! Nothing better than sweet little AC surprises that you never knew existed :))

If I'd been in high school when I got into AC, we would have sounded like this at the Battle of the Bands. Probably would have got fifth place for the costumes.

This recording is from the first ever Automine show. It was also the first time where all four boys were in the sames room together. That's crazy.

I love the old Maryland AnCo lore. I’ll actully be camping on a preserve in Parkton, MD after the Sung Tongs show in D.C.

Una Kim, one of the founders of Keep Shoes, has been DIYing it since she was in high school. She staged one of her most memorable projects when her parents were out of town. She threw a concert at her house. “Not only did I organize the show, I cooked a huge meal for every one who came over, and I even made the paper that the invitations were made out of, using a blender and old newspaper.”

Members of the bands that performed that night now play in little-known bands like Animal Collective, who Keep also happens to have a collaboration coming up with.

Ziggy! I didn't know he was a fan/friend of the band.

Unrelated, but so stoked he was cast in the It sequel

I absolutely adore Ziggy, and James Ransone was also wonderful in Generation Kill, a miniseries by the creators of The Wire about marines based in Iraq. He's got such a soulful, childlike vulnerability and loveable nature.

I also loved his own extended take on the AC song, "College Kids Ain't Shit".

He shined in Ken Park too.

Hope Geo keeps releasing stuff from the vault like that, it's so cool and fun.
