Thoughts on this? I feel like they should've gone deeper and listed side project stuff too. Glasslands, Noah's Ark. But still a decent list. What are your top shows?

that's cool but completely weird. the timing is kinda bizarre—why release a retrospective in 2018 without mentioning any of the more recent jammy PW recordings? plus 2011 is a pretty arbitrary point to pick as a consensus on the end of their "tear" even if you're going to ignore the 2001–2003 material. also he's got the wrong year for the ArtsPlace show (a common mistake!) and it's super strange to not have any download links. like he could have just posted it here
hard to hate on the selections if they include artsplace + OM thought
e: he fixed the year on artsplace after i tweeted at him

It's actually an ok list. Artsplace and Lux Fragil are in my top 3. Big Sur 09 is very good too. Tavastia 06 or Satellite Ballroom 07 would've been good to see. As would Glasslands
But I was at Pitchfork 2011 and that was def my least favorite AC show. Don't know what they're thinking. Trianon 2013 is a much better CHz show. (or Live at 9:30, but that's not a bootleg)
Agreed with jfw7 that it's seems like bizarre timing. Especially not including any PW shows or even the recent Sung Tongs show. The College Street Music Hall from last year is phenomenal. But maybe since those aren't audience recordings they left them out... who knows...
edit: Are we living in a bubble? Is it a consensus that AC hasn't been as good live since 2011?

i will authoritatively say that glasslands is probably not even a top 10 animal collective bootleg. it might be "your" favorite but i think it (and noah's ark) are compelling only in the larger context of the band's side projects + interpersonal relationships and alternate histories thereof

Gonna have to agree with the inclusion of Pitchfork 2011. god-tier

I respectfully disagree
the flow of grasslands makes it one of their best live recordings. sure they're outliers, but compared to something like Other Music (which is great, though overhyped. Sung Tongs show is better), Noah's Ark and Glasslands showcase the band's ability to reach a climax and then end the show on a high note, making me want more

what do you like about this show? I only like the non-CHz songs. The 2013 versions of the CHz tunes are far better

pitchfork 2011 is my favorite from the chz era because it's energetic the whole way through and there isn't really a dud on there, in my opinion. it used to be my go-to workout album. i also think the way that the recording came out makes it feel much more raw. i don't revisit any 2013 shows really.
i love the big sur show but man the guys eyes on that one is hard to listen to lol

the part that makes the 2011 pitchfork boot god tier personally is when they play honeycomb and the crowd shouts back during the pauses in the intro. also monkey riches -> brothersport.

yeah they're missing maybe the best era: 06-07. like someone said earlier, Tavastia would be a good choice, Variety Playhouse and even Malta. For 07, Melkweg and maybe Hove, or even 9:30 Club.
haven't really listened to PFork '11, seems not bad on first few minutes.

Gotta say I agree with JFW7 here, Glasslands is among the boots I’ve revisited the least. Strikes me as the Feels/SJ stuff they abandoned. All around good but just doesn’t grab me.
Only issue I take with the list is it didn’t need two MPP era boots, def needed a Painting With boot (Brooklyn Steel maybe if we’re going strictly bootleg and not band released).
CHz boots is the stuff I’m haziest on only really watched a couple YouTube links and the first pitchfork performance.

i don't get why people like the artsplace ky boot. i was there, it's my recording, and i only listened to it like twice because i didn't like the way it turned out. meanwhile, my favorite boot that i recorded, the much superior, sound and performance wise, wexner ohio boot, (which i still listen to every once in a while) i have never seen anyone comment on ever. booo animal collective fans. booo. booo artsplace. yay wexner. also, the wexner performance space has hands down the best sound of any venue i have attended, and i'm lucky because i have seen TONNNS of shows there. yay columbus!
the 2004 othermusic show is my favorite. HAPPYSINGINGBANDDDDDD.

oh I listen to it often. Always feel weird when I realize some people here have seen AC in 05. In my head no one currently here have seen them before 07. Jealous of you. My first time was in 13 so I am jealous of everyone in that regard

yay! it was my first ac show! so it is very special to me. black dice played and i hadn't heard them before. does anyone want that boot?? it makes a nice companion. exciting times in my life.
my first "real" concert was sonic youth and stereolab at the 9:30 club in d.c. in 2000. two nighter. quix*o*tic opened and my friends and i laughed it was so bad. mira bilotte from that band went on to be one of my favorite musicians as white magic!

Wish I could download the memories of those earlier shows to your mind. Those experiences made me a fan for life.

i never see the 2009 NPR show mentioned much, i would prefer it to both Big Sur and Lux Fragil, that version of Daily Routin has the longest breakdown ever -- just a solid 7-8 minutes of "in my beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed" it felt like. ive listened that at least 100 times. plus Chocolate Girl, an amazing Banshee Beat as well. a shitty summer time clothes tho
