I heard the same thing. I couldn't figure out if it was going to be available online or not. I assumed it was going to be in store only (and if so, how would you figure out which ones?). There was a general lack of information about the whole thing. But I'll definitely snag a copy no matter what.

Well there's a list of participating stores on the site. Doesn't sound like it'll be available online.

Can someone explain to me the fascination with cassettes? Why are they all the rage these days? I though they were of lower quality than records and CDs

Yea the main arguments that I'm hearing are that you can't skip tracks on a cassette and that some people just like the sound of tape hiss (for nostalgic reasons I presume). Then of course there is the economic justification. I know that every medium has it's advantages but it just seems like this whole cassette store day is a really lame way to make your fetish seem relevant (nobody calls them cassette stores).

Anyway, Sung Tongs on cassette. Could be cool I guess.

yeah I didn't mention the not skipping tracks or "analogue warmth" since you can get that with vinyl which is a better quality medium, although tapes are more compact I guess

the nature of home recording makes vhs tapes + cassettes way cooler than vinyl imo

There really doesn't need to be an in depth reason on the merits of cassette coolness/quality. It's just another physical form of music. It's not better or worse. It's just a thing that exists.

Yea, I'm not getting down on cassette tapes in general, just the idea of having a day to celebrate them. Record store day is cool because it gets people through the doors and excited about buying music. Plus, in my town, our record store is on the same block as a bunch of venues so it ends up being an all day music/hang out fest which is cool. Not to mention that it's usually held on, or close to 4/20. I just feel like this whole cassette store day thing is a group of people trying to ride the success of RSD and make their personal fascination seem "cool" or "relevant" in some way.

i feel like it's partially because cheap cars have cassette players in them. but honestly my cassettes always end up breaking. you really have to have a dedicated storage system if you want to preserve them. they are so cheap lol

I emailed the owner of one of the participating stores and he told me that he requested a shipment of the sung tongs cassettes but the label told him they wouldn't be imported to the U.S.
