Has anyone seen a copy of Panda Bear's 1999 album in person? I've scoured the Internet and no one seems to have/be selling one.

back in the CA4 days somebody on discogs put a copy up for sale. did anybody from here bought it?

Such a good album. Listened to it for the first time a few weeks ago, was blown away. Very underrated

Terrible is a little harsh? Considering he was a teen when he wrote/recorded most of these songs, I think it is a pretty great collection of songs. Especially this one...

i dont agree with this. someone's "sound" is whatever their sound is at the moment imo. that was his sound in 98!

but there are common elements in his music that are consistent throughout everything he's done since his s/t that are missing in the album, most notably his repetitive songwriting style and his very distinctive voice and pronunciation.

also just the quality of the songs that he's written since then has been much much higher (at least to my ears!)

Panda's first record blew my mind when I first heard it, mostly because I was pretty much the same age that he was when he made it and I had just started making music on my own that wasn't part of like a punk band or something. It was great to hear someone making music like that at that time in my life, so maybe thats part of why I like it.

In regards to what vesuvius has been saying, I won't argue with your personal taste, but the word terrible just seems a little ridiculous. Like I think about how I used to love weezer, but new stuff is just horrible, so I can say, hey I think weezer is terrible now, but with panda, comparing his older stuff to newer stuff hardly warrants that. But again, with that said, I don't see anything wrong with you not liking it, but I do think another listen wouldn't hurt.

Also, my favorite thing about this album is how many different styles it tackles. You have acoustic stuff like oh please bring her back and ain't got no troubles, and then more electronic stuff like ohne titel(the more upbeat instrumental one) and fire or inside a great stadium and a running race.

I don't hate this album but i barely ever have the motivation to listen to it unless i'm going on a massive panda binge

I agree, terrible was harsh. Probably wouldnt have used that word had i known how many of y'all actually like the record. That alone definitely warrants at least one more listen..

yeah dude!! like O Please Bring Her Back alone makes this album worthwhile. this album first clicked with me on a very lazy rainy day when I was chilling next to a window watching the raindrops and listening to it. maybe try that?

Fire is also one of my favorite panda songs. The ending when the percussion gets all crazy just rocks so hard. This album is a little lo-fi but thats part of why I love it so much.

Man, this album is so pleasant!

Two of my favorites are A Musician and A Filmmaker and Ohne Titel #2
They bring back memories. Of what? I'm not sure. Something from when I was <10, maybe <8 years old probably. But I don't know what it is. Being alone in an unknown place comes to mind, but what's that unknown place? I can picture it but I don't remember ever being there. Or maybe I was, but where was that? Being alone in an unknown place, indoors, until sunset. Man, those weird childhood memories.

Stream of consciousness off-topic derailing: Also, did Panda use ReBirth back then for a track like We Built A Robot or did he have a real 808?

I think he used a Roland MC-303 for the drum machine sounds on this album. Don't remember where I read that, though.

It's the Panda origin story. It's where it all began. Like coooolodges already said, the multiple styles really make it a joy to revisit.

"Sometimes When It Hurts Bad Enough It Feels Like This" gives me the most intense feels. I remember it came up on shuffle once when I was waaay too high and pretty much made me go insane in my own head for a couple minutes.

Yeah, it's no Person Pitch, but it definitely is an important part of the collective history. It is the first release by any member, and honestly I really enjoy the album myself. That was Noah back in '98 and that's how he expressed himself, and what a job he did. A round of applesauce everybody

so many total classics. i am so jealous of this album. everything is so inventive and accomplished and emotional and graceful and perfect

i love how varied it is.

so good to go back to every now and again and be like "damn yeah i am feeling this damn i am crying wow. wow this is emotional im thinking about the past and getting emotional wow im crying"

edit: all i know is that all of these songs have a crazy meaningful place in my heart and it hurts my feels to see them being discredited of their true beauty
