There's been some discussion of this in other threads so I figured the time was right to make this. What are people's guesses/dreams/dreads for the next era of touring. Shows this year or nothing until 2024?
Same setup? Different setup and new songs? Geologist Hurdy Gurdy stadium tour?

i've been thinking about this a lot. i'm really hoping for a pivot back to a mostly electronic setup, and i think that one small show avey did in 2021(?) in asheville is gonna kinda be the blueprint for "the new animal collective". i don't think any of the songs played there were 7s tracks but it's been a while since i saw those clips.

i can see them doing another run with the skiffs setup to promote IIN, and i'd love another chance to see defeat or magicians live again, but i can also just as easily see us getting into some new weird stuff right away. imagining reworks of songs from this era so soon is also enticing.

i for some reason envision the stage setup for the new tour being very kraftwerky. like the painting with setup but with less props.

I saw someone suggest a tour without Noah elsewhere and feel like it's not out of the question if he's really trying to get his next solo album out soon.

My 2024 predictions:

They tour with the same setup as Skiffs/IIN? with maybe a few extras, a keyboard for Avey, Noah gets a sampler, whatever but it's mostly the same and they do what they've never really done before and play a normal old songs concert tour and can still play songs form their recent albums and bill it as a bit of promo for that. The only single way I see this working is if they get really deep with the sets and mix things up a lot. Not talking like, mostly the same songs in a different order and a few surprise slots or mixing up the fan favorite encore they always do I mean like the jam band different sets every night kind of thing. They could play smaller venues and do 2 nights in places if people wanted to do both nights. The old songs thing sounds unappealing initially but this kind of thing would bring back some surprise to their live sets that I feel like hasn't been there for a while. If they did a similar thing to what they've done ins 2021/22 I'd personally be a bit disappointed.

OR

We get the new songs/news setup tour.

would honestly be kind of dope if there was an avey-deak-geo album cycle bc 1. more avey jams 2. more deakin jams 3. sinister grift. feels like more of everything. i'm all for it

In that podcast Deak did, he mentioned he and Geo are working on a documentary soundtrack. I love those two vibing out

I'm feeling a more formless, Gator Poolsey Avey/Geo project while Deak does solo stuff and maybe joins Panda's rock and roll band

Could also be a Gator Pools/ 3 solo projects era

this is blowing my brain... a simultaneous "AC" tour of just Avey + Geo while Panda + Deakin are touring SG... or imagine it's a "co-headliner" where they both play 1.5 hr sets, alternating who opens for one another

--

in a more realistic world, i'm thinking 2024 fall tour is the next time we see AC, and ya it's a more electronic set up again... would love to see Panda and Geo on samplers/knobs, Deakin on keys and Dave on acoustic guitar or just vibing out with nothing but a microphone and a drumstick ala 2006

Somebody asked Panda after the Off Festival in Poland whether there's a chance of AnCo gig next year and he supposedly said it is likely they won't play in Europe as AnCo for a few years ;(
