Anyone who was there have an opinion on which set was better? I'm not sure which one to purchase. Would do both but I'm not sure if I want to live shows with essentially the same set list.

I bought both to support the cause, I did pay more than a dollar for each. I think this might warrant being posted in the main forum? It seems like a hard decision to make for a band. And not to be a dick but it might be nice for the band to donate some of the net proceeds from the gig as well.

Or better yet, make a deluxe vinyl boxset, "Live at the Orange Peel" and donate all profits to the respective charities.

wow, listening to the LA show now and avey did the "my singing voice is gone" part! that gave me some major chills. He didn't do that at any of the 3 shows I went to

I am out of work and barely scraping by right now. I can really only afford to buy one :'(

Anyone have any suggestions as to which one? I was leaning towards the UK one as it is from a later date and maybe the songs have progressed more. Any help?

You can stream both for free if you want to listen before you buy. I liked the UK one more I think. As you said, the songs have progressed more and the transitions seemed more fleshed out. Just comparing the track lengths, it looks like the UK versions are at least 30 seconds longer for the most part. Both shows sound great though.

I got both and they're amazing. Had someone's boot from Fonda already so if you listen to that vs what's on the Band-camp you can get a good feel for the difference in quality between what AC has recorded and our fan demos. Pretty remarkable stuff.

The 11 minute Ritz version of Loch Raven is instantly my favorite thing I've ever heard from this band ever. Holy fucking shit.

These are both great. I want to combine them into an all-inclusive "Painting Live" mix. But it isn't going to be easy. I think I'm going to use the Fonda show as the foundation and work in Hounds, Vertical, and Recycling from the UK show. I will probably end up mixing and matching parts here and there.

yeah no kidding. i wish i had a way of knowing how many hours i've spent listening to different bootlegs over the years vs the studio versions. i think that i've probably spent twice as much time listening to the boots, and that includes the over 1000 listens that most of the studio work has gotten from me over the year. it goes without saying, high quality boots are so very important to me.

i guess there's also the radio session version of Jimmy, but not sure if that messes up what you're going for with being able to hear the crowd. agreed that NYC taper's 2/24 boot is as good as it gets without being a soundboard.

I've been thinking the same thing. I started making it before these recordings ever came out. But because I have no experience of mixing whatsoever and I have a bunch of coursework to do, it's been a slow process. Plus it doesn't sound all that great so far.

...helped plant the idea of their hopefully soon-to-be-expanded-upon idea of a live music archive for their shows (check the back cover for a dust-jacket blurb from Geo) ...

...in as much as the book covers the historical timeline of hallucinogens (mainly LSD) in the US and it's distribution and associated era-related significance in society, culture, etc...it also highlights just a few specifically extraordinary and essentially significant people involved in the related evolution/revolution through the years...one of whom is Dick Latvala - an acid/pot-head Grateful Dead-worshiping audiophile obsessive of the highest order who's thirst for sound was only matched by his pure love for the kind of music that helped pose as many questions as it helped to answer...he was the Dead's initial audio "vault"-keeper, able to parlay his fandom into a surreal full-time job while also helping the band to finally see and understand the importance of collecting & preserving the band's audio legacy for historical sake (if not, for many selfish reasons of his own that eventually came to fruition once they gave him the keys to the kingdom).

...long story short...AC music is equally essential and vital to me as the GD was 20 years ago when i first started obsessively trading and amassing their bootlegs...and i just hope that these two new releases are a result of AC having recently gained a new-found appreciation for it for themselves and with us in mind too...and that they'll continue to make releases like these available as time progresses...

...and of course...Dave...Noah...Brian...i'd make a great AC Latvala, with just the right touch of Owsley for good measure...jus' sayin'...

awesome post...there still so much mystery with pre2004 boots id say..especially 2000...and even after the mystery remains with songs like spongeluke and reworks like another white singer in 2004..ac is awesome man!!
