Theories about AC's inspiration

So I've been reading Neil Young's biography Shakey recently, and I found this passage talking about the recording of After the Gold Rush where he talks about space travel and makes me wonder if this was an influence on the idea behind CHZ.
on page 341 in the paperback version
"...In twenty years, rock and roll might be the biggest fuckin' communication medium in the universe . Who knows?. Invaded by people from another fuckin' planet-and all they want is the musicians...
I'd go up on my bus. I'd be playing with the All-Insect Orchestra by then......."
And I can't find my copy of Brian Wilson's Autiobiography Wouldn't It Be Nice. But there was an interesting passage where he talks about the recording of SMiLE. And he uses the word feels to talk about all the different environments the songs are in.
All of these are just theories of a fan boy reading into things way to much. And all could be coincidental but who knows.

The "feels" idea is really interesting, I think it's been brought up before. I think Brian Wilson himself wrote about "feels" in the liner notes to a re-issued Beach Boys album, it's not too improbable that one of the members of AC read it one day and took the idea for the title from it.
As for the Neil Young thing... I dunno, there's lots of precursors to the whole "alien rock" idea. The term space rock goes back to the early 70s. But I would like to add that Shakey is indeed a fantastic book with lots of great stories.

Ya Shakey is blowing my mind right now. Neil is a true bad ass. I picked it up again after not getting to far into it a year ago. But once it started getting into Buffalo Springfield I started loving it. His recent memoir is also brilliant once you get pass him talking about model trains forever.
Ya I find the Brian Wilson thing interesting too. Because supposedly AC aren't that into them.Who knows..

AC are full of shit if they profess to not be into the Beach Boys...or they're just sick of the constant comparisons so refuse to acknowledge them and pretend the connection doesn't exist. Or perhaps the influence is a subconscious thing, some childhood nostalgia for their parents music or what have you.

i've heard ac say good things about beach boys. noah once said he was honored being compared to all those guys cause they "ripped." but i think the fact that they are always compared to the beach boys confuses them because they are influenced by so many other things more. like i think people often take noah's african music influence for beach boys influence, or the fact that they like harmonies and swirling melodies and childhood/innocence. from what i remember they've just said that the beatles for example were a lot more influential to them than the beach boys.

Ya they also say they don't know much about music theory. And I kind of doubt that.....

I don't really doubt that, the music they make doesn't require much music theory if you think about it. Plus a lot of great bands know barely anything about notes and chords at all.

They've cited some of their inspiration from Can, Silver Apples and such acts.
60's and 70's progressive rock music, but that was back in the day.
AC likes to always change things up so I'm sure they're influences also.

This is pretty much all you'll need to read for their influences.
