think we have a topic for this already but i'll contribute a funny one from the other day
forget which song i was listening to but the conversation went like this:
guy: 'what are you listening to?'
me: 'animal collective'
guy: 'it sounds like two songs playing at once'
me: 'yeah'

i think I've posted this in another thread. but a few years ago i was playing peacebone on the stereo at work and i come around the corner to someone hitting the stereo on the side, only to look over at me and say with a concerned tone that the cd must be skipping haha. it was the intro of peace bone, and he couldn't have been banging the stereo for no more than a few seconds seeing as the intro to peacebone isn't all that long, but it sat ill made me chuckle. good times.

Been bumping Painting With quite a lot and both my brother and girlfriend hate "that parking lot song" because it isn't about anything.
Even after hearing the more straightforward "Painting With," my girlfriend still says every song sounds like 3 songs playing at the same time. I hear the word "garbage" thrown around a lot.

These are hilarious hahaha! I love the one about the dude hitting the speaker while peacebone played. Idk if I can remember any specific reactions, but most people i show AC too don't like it, some do, the good ones.

That is hilarious, my favourite of these so far hahah
I made the mistake of playing some anco to a friend of mine when I first got into them 3 years ago. Now he talks shit about them literally any time I mention AC or PB. Didn't even get a funny story out of a particular song

he just hates it all without question

I showed one of my friends "Peacebone" one day and now he loves all their stuff (Well, mostly Feels and forward, he hasn't went too far back yet...) and loves solo Panda and Deak
I show occasionally show my best friend some of their "prettier" songs like Loch Raven and Bluish and he seems to like them
Everyone else begs them to stop playing

Me: Can I just play this one song?
Housemate/Sibling/Friend: Yeah man, go for it.
*AC plays for one minute, song hasn't really started cause it's just intro/build-up
Housemate/Sibling/Friend: Dude this is boring, how do you listen to this?
Also, one of my friends (who only listens to trap and house music) describes all my music as "Mario music", and I'm like dude that's just melody.

I was playing Come to Your Senses at work and my boss get saying "no" every time Noah sings "are you mad?" Lol. I also bumped the PW samples and he was very confused by the sudden song shifts.

Actually one time I was talking to this girl and I said "do you want to hear something insane?" then put my headphones on her and played untitled from STGSTV
She literally threw the headphones off her head the moment the synth came in

My fav moment is playing Tantrum Barb for a friend at work and he threw the headphones off his head and said "are you trying to hypnotize me?! this is some Lion King shit!"

I went out with a Chinese girl for a couple of years. We talked about getting married and stuff. Her family ended up asking me directly what my intentions were. I said I didn't want to make an immediate decision because it was a lifelong commitment and would affect my own family a great deal. They understood and she was also prepared to wait. Anyway, I left my iPod at her house one time and when she gave it back she said she'd listened to AC out of curiosity, because I was always talking about them. She said it made her feel 'itchy', which I found pretty funny and a good description. Then later that evening at dinner, she said she thought it was actually shit...
VERY NEXT DAY
MARRIAGE
SHITCANNED
You see, I don't just talk the talk, boys. I'm the real deal.
LIFELONG COMMITMENT TO THE A FOCKIN C

She'd heard the occasional song in the background but I wouldn't usually play it at my house when she (or anyone else) was there. That was the first time she'd sat down and listened to it on her own. I did have Visiting Friends as my ringtone around that time, and her aunt once recoiled in horror when my phone rang during dinner:
'Zhe shi yin yue?!' (This is music?!)
Chinese can be quite culturally narrow-minded, though, so that didn't surprise me at all.

lol this is great because this is the last AC song that should be a ringtone
now that I think about it Sweet Road could make a good ringtone

I don't really like being bothered by unsolicited calls. My other AC-related ringtone was 'I See You Pan'. If they're prepared to let it ring for four or five minutes, I might notice it.

In the pbvsgr stems/remixes that were on the Greaper website there was a snippet of Jabberwocky a cappella, just Panda singing like 2 lines of the song. I remember thinking that would make a good ringtone, but I don't use ringtones, so I sent it to one of my friends and I'm pretty sure he still uses it as a ringtone
anyway I just never had an excuse to bring up this pointless story before

Wow stan, sorry that the boys stole yo girl.
It's weird that so many of you loved ones just openly hate on the AC. My boyfriend who pretty much only listens to musicals and operas, even he listens to AC with an open mind and is digging the hell out of PW, and we're starting to move back through the catalog (evil grin)
Some of the dumbest reactions I've had to AC though:
> plays Sung Tongs at family backyard picnic
> Winter's Love comes on
> "This sounds like dying cats"
> puts on Strawberry jam at a house party where all of us love AC
> but some of my ex's friend were over
> Peacebone starts
> "this song is giving me a panic attack. turn this off!"
> in our own house
> in electroacoustic class
> brings up Animal Collective as a reference to one of the songs I was working on
> teacher says "Ugh, I'd like Animal Collective more if they didn't just keeping playing everything in patterns of 4!"

I was young and foolish, but I was right to end things, for entirely the wrong reasons. I ended up coming home, bumping into my high school best friend and married her.
She tolerates AC and likes 'open up your mouth', no matter how many times I correct her.

I had Water Curses and Im Not on a playlist alongside a bunch of other songs and thought they were two pretty "safe" AC related songs. I was driving with my roommate back from Tahoe though and I put that playlist on for the drive. None of the songs on there were really his "thing" so to speak (he mostly listens to radio stuff and classical) but the only two songs he made me skip the whole drive were those two. I honestly didn't think they would sound that weird or abrasive to anyone!! It was also funny since I'm sure he didn't realize those two songs happened to be related in any way.
