Don't get me wrong, the bootlegs are pure :boo: , but I really hope we get more releases like the Cat's Cradle thing from soundcloud. I've been absolutely obsessed with that show. Maybe an early SJ show for the anniv. next year?

Hard to believe feels came out 10 years ago. Time is crazy innit. Anyway, more live albums? yay or nay

more live stuff would be sick. I'd love some hq sung tongs stuff... Recently I discovered the 2003 KVRX Boot: best Don't Believe the Pilot I've ever heard

that's the Don't Believe the Pilot that I use in alt. sung tongs tracklist

didn't someone say they've taped all of their shows from like 2003 on?

I'd love to hear some HCTI era boots.

My absolute favorite bootleg is the performance that the hollinndagain lablakely dress was taken from. I love early live anco so much

Yeah, same here, they were absolutely transcendental live up to MPP. After that, more professional and workmanlike.

There's nothing particularly interesting about exploring the remaining few crumbs of trad pop arrangements, in fact, it's as inevitable as any other band getting the edges rounded off and being sucked into the all consuming megaton black hole pull of mainstream culture and the mundanity of music as a job. Heck, even Miles Davis ended up making Tutu. God bless Coltrane for searching higher and higher until his untimely death. That said, a lot of his later music was absolute rubbish.

I still enjoy live at the 930 quite a bit because I'm into jamming but you're right about it sounding more "professional"

God back in the day they were just something else. I don't think I've ever heard anything quite like those 2001 bootlegs we have. Really incredible stuff

agreed

If they really do record every show they have, they must have some absolutely fantastic recordings of shows in the "golden age," between like 06 and 08 or so. i'd really love to hear more high quality early recordings too. or at least higher than playing the audio for the houston show on youtube

ive practically worn out hollinndagain :(

what r yal implying by "workmanlike". im allllllmost certain that they have always been doing exactly what they want with their music and they just happen to be good and lucky enough for it to work as a career which is beautiful, and i believe they still are today and tomorrow... but im not sure what yal mean really, guess workmanlike doesnt have 2 be a bad thing. ppl always use that word 2 describe mccartney..

mostly that's just a bad definition of "golden" but also the 2006 and 2008 shows are vastly different listening experiences! i would argue that by the end of the sj tours ac was approaching what stan is acknowledging about predictably solid performances without an emphasis on experimentations. 2007 was a nice reset but even by the end of 2008 things were starting to starting to settle down for good

golden age is 2001-2003, silver is 2004-2006, bronze is 2007-2010, modern age is 2016-until

i dont rlly get how theyre not still experimenting and pushing their sound forward. mpp even wasnt experimental in some ways? idk, i dont get how everyon seems to act like thats a strait ahead pop album.. and those shows definitely werent short of being totally unique

oh they had a bunch of really interesting early mpp shows doing things that were completely new for them. i think by the time the lyrics were edited to their final versions the experimentation wasn't as much the point though. and obviously they were trying new things with both the newer albums and their associated tours (and probably succeeding!) but i think their shows have remained at the same "professional" level they reached in 2009. things like ttg and the acoustic chz set still show they love trying out new fun stuff, i just think the circuit they're on is benefits from the type of shows they're playing

I'm of the belief that the more poppy they get, the more experimental they really become.

I would love for them to release a subscription based app or digital archive of the shows they have soundboard recordings for. (like phish does)

Deak's Pick's Volume 420 would be the jam. :weed:

Why would you want that one? Its awesome but you have it right there in pretty great quality on youtube. Some of the transitions in that show are sorta weird though and it's a fairly short set.

yea you're right about those things. i mean that just in terms of the quality of the songs - #1, fireworks, and guys eyes here are some of my favorite versions and i think panda was super on point that night. i do wish they would release one that has no recording already
