Seems odd there's no thread yet about the #1 wholly undisputed champion track from this album...
In all seriousness, I feel this song packs the most dynamic and peak-y atmosphere into a relatively small package. Right out of the gate this mellon farmer kicks into top gear with both boys speed-reading lyrics like the melody might escape their grasp. When it starts to wind up around 1:13 there's a complete tonal shift that throws the song into chaotic mania, and that relentlessly intense ascension exploding at 1:53 is one of the most satisfying moments in AC's career for me. Avey sprints like a cannon-fired cheetah, shredding lyrics at incomprehensible pace while Panda soars high on a lofty cloud, pitch-shifting his voice up into the heavens with "what you think YOUUUuuuuuown" and then almost sneakily colliding for the "burglaaaaars" harmony. I get chills every time.
Someone mentioned that this song is "AC going super-sayain" and I couldn't agree more.
This song is everything.

I can only imagine how intense this might be live (hope it's part of the PW sets)

Heheh Thank you for your exciting and entirely apt discripton of the burgalers.
I see the "magic" of this album being debated and I think it's true that this is sorta the first time it feels like an Anco album isn't like stumbling upon a crazy beautiful secret in the deep woods. That is I certain magic sure but I think humans and their skills can yield magic too. This album is like an insanely inspired, intelligent, human, piece of woodwork craftsmanship, like someone carved a spirit out of wood. .lol sorry silly rant I just want to justify how special this music and specifically this song are too, in the great anco canon.

there's several occasions where i thought the lyrics were sung backwards
and at least at one point i hear avey singing "fuckable change"
great song!

I thought it was a bloody mess first few times I heard it. I found the increasing intensity and pace in the middle section just totally overwhelming and I found the 'bur-ger-lerrrrs' bit to sound like a jingle or something, quite irritating, even from the initial amazon sample.
Turns out it's amazing.

the frantic nature of it is fantastic, i just wish the bass synth wasn't so... buzzy? the fuzziness of the hi-frequency adds a lot of unnecessary clutter and drowns out the vocals in a way that's annoying.

which part? i think everything is accountable lyric-wise unless you think it's sung backwards and meant to sound like its words being spoken normally.
anyway the only part that seems ambiguous is what's noted on the lyric page:
Has this town really gotten much better, see the burglars ????
Someone else's transcription was 'burn just a little rubber' for the last part, and it seems to fit fairly well.
either way, this is probably exactly the type of song that will have a few lines changed dynamically in live shows. especially if you've read avey's description of the song in an interview, where along with the content of the lyrics being about burglary themselves, they're running so many things by you so quickly as a listener, like micro fine print or a speed-reading disclaimer at the end of an ad, you're bound to have something slip by you. just the kind of behavior a sly burglar would attempt!

Heh I like to think it's something like 'since their brains got splattered all over it'.

The Burglars’ sounds like it must have been hard to put together.
When I got the demo of ‘The Burglars’ I just threw up my hands, like “I don’t know what I’m gonna do with this one.” There’s like seven different changes in it, and it’s [only] two and a half minutes long. There’s no breath; it just rips the whole time. Again, you sit with something long enough and it almost feels like time slows down a bit, which is cool.

^good one. sweet to hear him talk candidly abt the demo process.
feel like this song is hyper-condensed applesauce sort of. like there's as many parts as applesauce except they all only happen once or consecutively... its rlly sick. can kind of picture a version tho thats has a structure similar to aplesauce where things repeat and they cycle thru. love that very first part before i rlly picks up a lot. but the way it is is so sick.. feels like a rocket taking off

Has the best drop on the album (well on delay's too). I think the buildup is awesome, it's one of my favorites songs on the album and the Avey Panda vocals at the end are honesty a fucking miracle
