This song needs its own thread. Was just kinda perplexed by this one the first few listens, but now it's hitting me so hard. Feels like it could become one of Pandas best melodies, really beautiful. My only complaint is that the middle instrumental section could have been maybe more interesting, but it's a very minor complaint. The instrumental section at the very end is so great.

I'm hoping I'll "get it" at some point. After closers like Amanita, I was expecting a pretty huge, epic finish which at this point, I definitely don't think they were going for. I'll keep at it!

i was picturing some huge send-off as well, so the mute vibe is kind of sweet since its sort of new for them. kind of reminds me of the feeling of acid wash as a closer a bit. i get a weird medeival feeling to this.

I should say though, I think this track has the best hocketing on the album. I love the "chrord change" halfway through each line (I don't know what to actually call it).
Also, the melody that comes in at the 3:15 mark reminds of something, a kids tv show maybe? I'll have to put some more thought into it.

Yes, the hocketing works extremely well on this song. And the chord change part you're talking about, the melody resolves itself in the coolest way it's genius.

I think it's a fantastic closer, I think it wraps the album up really nicely after Golden Gals, which with all its enthusiasm seems like a sort of climax anyway

The ending of this song kinda reminds me of Ahh Good Country, the caveman rhythms

Dang this is getting better every listen, it makes sense as the closer. the whole album is so crazy and frantic sounding this really fits well.

I don't really hear this as hocketing, like it seems more like Panda and Avey are sort of dancing around each other most of the time and only forming something unified for just some moments. Isn't hocketing supposed to be like they're alternating bits of one melody?

I think this interweaving vocal thing is, along with Spilling Guts, Noah's best writing on the album. The melodies work against and alongside, they exist separately but reinforce each other harmonically. They come in and out of sync quite mechanically but not robotically, more like the internal workings of a wooden cuckoo clock.

the ending reminds me of something that could be used as a theme song for a cartoon show, or like, a soundtrack to certain parts of shows, like if the teletubbies were to march around whimsically i could hear this outro soundtracking that

I love all the instrumental sections on this. I was just thinking that PeteK was pretty on point with the laughing gas comparisons - the come up, the 'oh shit this is serious now', things get weird and oddly introspective but as you're coming down things start to feel waaay funnier than they should be - and then it's gone, all that in just a few minutes. Maybe it's just me.
Speaking of just me, is that Geo singing with Panda???? If not, Avey really nailed his compadre's voice there.
boom did post something about hearing "at least 2 voices" on the track so it is possible it is geo

Yeah I can totally hear the fiery furnaces comparison, good ear.
The melody to this song gives me chills.

at around 1:45, the way panda sings, "through these snICKERS" (or w/e he says) just hits hard every time

I know this album aimed to be more direct, but I'm wishing they have a demo of this song where they jam the outro, it's just so fucking good

Crazy how similar this is to Acid wash. Both songs mention a ship, a rope, and the deep as well.

it's a weird little track. i'd like it more if it felt like it went somewhere... it just kind of presents a melody, with the hocketing, does its thing and its done. even the instrumental isnt terribly interesting. idk, this is one of the songs on the album that hasnt clicked with me, like natural selection or spilling guts

perfect closer, would've been disappointed if they did another bombastic ending as that kinda thing already felt forced and overdone with amanita
the melody is so fantastic... any1 who says there aren't any 'feels' or emotions on this record id point them to this one

recycling is my third favorite (1 on delay , 2 burglars). Pandas VOCALS. when he hits those piercing high notes..... and then you have that warping, wobbly, godly synth that I presume Geo (honestly idk, could be any of them lol) created: the thing like tugs at my eardrums

this is a god-level melody and the best use of hocketing on the album imo...love that synthetic bass sound...and it's pure euphoria when panda hits those high notes
i hate those toy pianos at the end tho
