This song is fucking ridiculous.

What’s the best place
That you have seen
all of the hands
That you have shook
Home of the queen of everything fancy
Is there a smell
That you can tell
gives you some peace
sends you to hell
all of the beds
That you have yearned
Is there a dream to
where you’d return
Where is the plight
With the most stars
Where do you drink
By Echo guitars
What’s the best shore
Seen from a boat
Miniature heads that
color the shore line
If you could rest
A minute to tell
Get me some grass
Iridescent shells
I know there’s a nest
Fit with a hatch
Sunset a glowin’
Makes us all sweaty

I don’t even know where to begin
or how I should start these days.
The green mountain south or
The Clay of the westerns

The Maryland meadows at midnight they do have a misty grace
Take a trip to blue bayou
Find Roy Orbison cryin’

A continent molded from glass
or maybe a town I can taste. Dresses that glow on
girls from Barcelona

I wanna discover the key
And open the everywhere place
A mix of sky from Montana
dipped in FloriDada

FloriDada

Old
demented men
Where is the place
We can extend
Crooked state lines
Polka dot signs
Say that this place is
a state of mind
Pretty lip girls
Paint me the halls
Not on a street
Not near a mall
Raise me a thumb
From human skin
That isn’t judged by
where it begins
Show me the clams
Show me the pearls
Mail me a note
Sent from a world
That isn’t so far
And always right here
Where all the boundaries
Have disappeared
And all the nights
Are stitched with a glue
That’s sticking to me
And I’ll stick to you
I’ll take your hands
You’ll take my face
And everywhere home will
be a good place

I found myself there a collagin’
With all of the human race
A dancer from Ghana
smiling in Tijuana
I Frankenstein java with touches of Prada
and corn on the plates
A smear of gardenia
in the fair hair of sweden
And maybe I actually visited
some sort of mythical place
Or was it a future
connected by sutures
Oh let’s go get lost in the image
I made of the everywhere place
I see the lads from Osaka
dyed in FloriDada

FloriDada

Where’s the bridge that’s gonna take me home the bridge that someone’s fighting over a bridge that someone’s paying for a bridge so old just let it go

Something that hit me as a first impression of this track is that in the past, most of the time, it's immediately obvious whether Avey or Panda is responsible for the primary songwriting of a track. But this time it truly does sound like 3 people co-wrote it

I feel like THIS is the 'carnival ride' vibe that Avey talked about with Enter the Slash House.

It's got that fun, bubblegum pop aspect but the "flor flor flor flor" part in the chorus really gives the song that zany AnCo feel. It's fucking sweet man. Anyone else get me?

it is very multidimensional, and to me quite foresty feeling song; if the rest of the album has this feeling as well, and this photo from Abby is not in the LP, i will use it as the equivalent of the underwater scene on Merriweather!! There is also a unique and spacey clocktower and artwork of a surfer at the ocean that seem to fit too!

All of the melodies and especially Geo's parts seem well sensed for whether a person will feel many new positive and peculiar emotions while hearing them, and then relistening adds to them and adds new ones just the same. Even the airport apparition recordings seem to have that quality to them for many of us! Brian D.G.'s artworks seem to relate to how we are kind of getting inside their heads, but, in creative and rapidly changing places, they have indeed recorded tendril meeting paths, portable mind living spaces that anyone can fit inside and nearby, and experience all sorts of nuances about life due to their having been made!

After listening to it repeatedly this morning: the verses are awesome and the lyrics pretty sweet. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the chorus. Overall, I'm so grateful for this song but was hoping for something that would evoke a bit more ethos for me. It's poppy and fun and warm and yellow, but doesn't really bring the 'feels' for me. PBMTGR, Slasher Flicks, and most of CHz suffered from the same problem for me. Interesting musical qualities but no tear jerkers like Banshee, Fireworks, Softest Voice, Cuckoo etc etc...

Sure I could listen to "flor flor flor flor flor flor flor" all day long but it's never going to incite some deep emotional connection or personal epiphanies like so much of their emotionally infused music did for me so many years ago.

Probably my least favorite AC single tbh. Not trying to rain on anyones parade just surprised to have seen not a single person express anything other than complete positive enthusiasm.

No one else is getting annoyed by the flor flor flor flor flor flor chorus?

after a rough few weeks this song had me laughing my head off and crying my eyes out this morning

probably the only reason I got up and made it to school

People getting such emotional reactions to this song: why. I mean the message of the song and lyrics aren't particularly moving in any way. Fun and clever but this song a tear-jerker? I guess it must be 3 years of longing for a new AC release. I think people are more excited that there's finally new content and its eschewing their opinion of the song

i guess i understand now why they choose the airport to stream the album, is a nice location full of different people from different places with different destinations

I just think it's such a zany trip of a song; how one can't dance to it would be a true mystery.

Yeah yeah yeah that all makes sense.. Tears of joy and excitement and it truly is a warm and joyful tune. And I'd say well worth the wait... I guess its just that Ive been hoping to get a..... "deep"?... album with lots of emotional insights and expressions. I love everything AC has ever released, including this single, but haven't got hit in the feels gut by one of their albums since SJ. (also Down There. And parts of MPP and CHz but definitely not in the same way)

With this single and the tidbits of info we know about Painting With, it seems it will be more of a fun-time pop carousel type album than a life changing heart wrenching tear jerking emotional rollercoaster. And those emotional rollercoasters of Spirit, Feels, Sung Tongs, Down There, and SJ were my favorite experiences with the Collective (and life in general)

Alas I shall be grateful for what is and what is is going to be fucking awesome in it's own way! To each there own...

HEadroom, you don't even get that on the bridge? i think is a pretty beautiful and "emotional" part on a fun song

and this is the first single, the first one is always a more energetic song (todays supernatural, peacebone, grass etc)...

song is deep to me...
it makes the whole world exciting and happy

it may not have the "ups" AND "downs" as Down There for example...

it is deeply optimistic though, which is just as tear-worthy in my heart

it's also not just hype, there have been releases this year that have completely blindsided me in a similar fashion as this

A mix of Grass, Water Curses, and PBVSGR. With vocal tradeoffs.

agreed, song definitely has a lot of emotional depth. it has a really strong brightness to it, and the lyrics have a lot of meaning packed into them

I got emotional simply because listening and reading the lyrics for the first time was sort of an overwhelming experience. Yeah it's definitely a "fun" track. And is trying to be. But to say it doesn't have any depth doesn't seem right to me. There's still a lot to unpack with this song, for me.

you can have emotional reactions just to the music, you don't need to connect to the lyrics to have an emotional response. most of animal collective's lyrics don't do much for me but the music still makes me emotional

transferring my thoughts into this thread:

upon first listen, i was struck by how 'easy'/immediate the chorus was. my ONLY fear with this song is that the simplicity of it won't hold up to the repeated listens...but the crazy dense verses/lyrics do a pretty good job of balancing that out. anyone else feel me? overall, their more 'up-front' stuff (SJ in partic) generally leaves me less interested than the 'soupy'/disorienting stuff...so time will tell. HEadroom, we're in the same boat, at different ends. I'm not annoyed so much as underwhelmed - but the song as a whole is fantastic, i think!

i'm super excited, love the bouncy percussion. very wa-wa cursies/peacebone-y (but better than the latter, thankfully)

also, i'm really curious to know if they had to pay for that 'wipe out' sample. i'm guessing yes...it's so short but instantly recognizable.

and finally, ROY ORBS 4EVA!! <3<3

Gonna be pretty disappointed if this song doesn't eventually get a music video with psychedelic sunshiney cartoon characters singing/dancing to the song.

Just think of the three albums with the Avey, Panda, & Geologist lineup:

Danse Manatee

Merriweather Post Pavilion

Painting With

Is Deakin just the third wheel in the 3-way bromance those three obviously share with each other?

The "I don't even know where to begin/Maryland meadows" part is probably a new record for how many syllables Avey can cram into such a short section.
