"Michael, Remember (Jam May 12, 2015)", the first warm-up jam for Animal Collective upon getting together to practice for the first time in a year and a half. It features Avey Tare, Panda Bear, and Geologist, and was recorded at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville, NC."

Explains why I saw Avey at the Asheville PB show

Wait a second... we heard about the album being finished like two months after they had gotten together for the first time in a year and a half to practice? Makes me think this album is going to be the most bizarre modular jam album ever.

Just because they got together for the first time to practice in a year and a half doesn't mean the album wasn't already written in some way or another ;)

Right. Panda mentioned a couple times in interviews that he had been writing furiously away at new AC material and said he assumed the other dudes were as well. But! this whole practice session in NC, is probably where they actually started putting stuff together and I'm sure a lot of writing got done there.

i assume they also just wanted to check out the synths because some of this is definitely dicking around

the kinda spindly slippery sounding synths in this remind me of the parts in Tape Player Chants for Winter where it's just looped voices going crazy

Yeah this is kinda what I got from some of it, but it's still awesome for the simple fact that this is basically the first hint we've gotten as to what kind of sounds they could be working with for the next album.

These sounds remind me a lot of Danse Manatee, which is interesting because that's the only other AC record with the same lineup besides MPP. Maybe the new one will have elements of both? Could be really interesting.

Agreed, eggs. Think we could see a lot of free-form sonic experimentation with pop leanings

It's like if Terry Riley fell in love with scuba diving and made a long, techno-y jam on a submarine, and they mic'd the bubbles outside.
