More specifically though, I'm wondering who his influences are. Wikipedia says his biggest influence for drumming was Stuart Copeland, but I'd like to know if he's ever talked about anyone else? links/quotes of interviews much appreciated.

Also, are there any modern acts that clearly take after, say, feels-era drumming?

Discuss! Spirit, Danse, HCTI, Feels, SJ, CHz are probs the main focuses here.

When I saw him back in May, the first thing I told him was how much of an inspiration he is as a drummer, and how high i hold his abilities. he laughed and said "thanks, i don't hear that very often... i haven't really drummed, other than centipede, since 10 years ago. i was never very technically good, you know"
and i was like "are you kidding me youre amazing"

I can see why Panda Bear wouldn't count himself as a 'technically skilled' drummer simply because there are more technically skilled drummers. Plus I think he's just a humble dude. But fact is he is a killer drummer—not only does he have chops, but he's endlessly creative. He always comes up with great idiosyncratic beats that are usually pretty simple but are still very interesting and contribute to the song: For Reverend Green, DYSTW, Banshee Beat. The list goes on.

At least for me personally, I think some of his greatest drumming moments are on MPP, even if it is "finger drumming" Guys Eyes is a monster beat! Daily Routine also has perfect drums.

Sometime last year I mic'd a floor tom and ran it through a delay pedal to play the Purple Bottle drum beat, and it's deceivingly difficult to play! The pattern itself is fairly simple but it's quick and you have to be really precise because any mistakes are made very obvious by the delay effect.

Damn I thought I had seen that interview but I guess I never watched the whole thing because I'd never heard that version of DYSTW! That must be from the early Feels-era shows no? Since the drum beat is completely different and it appears to be just Avey, Deak & PB

Yep, they played at Midway Cafe (seen on sign in background) in Boston on March 22nd, 2004.

Pb's drumming on Spirit always blows me away. Especially Alvin row. The way he slows down from the chaotic first section to establish the beat is my favorite. Unrelated to the thread, Avey's piano playing in that song is also unreal. Such a complicated song on piano and he just nails it.

It's kind of insane how Panda Bear is not only an incredible drummer but also a great singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer, etc. He's crazy versatile

panda's drumming was probably one of the first major draws of animal collective for me. he's just captivating to watch and listen to equally.

Isn't it kind of interesting that panda doesn't play drums on young prayer, person pitch, tomboy or greaper? He saves his chops for the AnCoBros.

I don't know shit about drum theory, but if you think THAT's gonna stop me from blathering on the internet, YOU DEAD WRONG.

Panda is mad chill. Drums? Yes. VERY good. Feels? Yup, you guessed it. VERY good.

Never knew about that awesome delay trick on Purple bottle. Fucking sweet. Panda has definitely influenced me somewhat. I just love what I perceive to be AC's attitude towards rhythm. It's like they find rhythm in everything, even chaos.

I just realized how layered the drums are on the studio version of DYSTW. Holy shit. One of the reasons why things never sound exactly right live, cuz noah layers so much so elegantly.
