Pullhair Rubeye

I've little desire to discuss the backwards business. I think they can do what they like with their songs. I just want to discuss the songs as they are because this is one of the most beautiful Animal Collective related releases. I have hardly listened to it over the years but I got the melody to Palenka in my head recently so sought out a reversed and stretched copy.
I think Sasong is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It's all I want to listen to now. The most beautiful and delicate thing. The live video of them singing it together is up there with I've Got Mine. It makes me really really sad that they had something so seemingly perfect for a time. Such a beautiful couple, creating wonderful music together. They look so in love. It makes me want to write more words and songs.
I think I have a disease that makes my hearing imperfect but at least I make some wonderful noise.

I have always held Sasong as Avey's most beautiful song. By a mile.
Always struggled to get a decent quality reverse stretched version though. Always sounds a bit muffled which sucks.

Sasong is very very pretty.
Was Onaip I think works fine backwards, but I suppose that's because it's so chaotic already

I think I'm going to do a lossless reversed version this evening, if that's possible. I think the time stretching will inevitably degrade it to some extent, though.

put me on the pm waitlist too, i avoided the stretched&reversed version for the longest time because it was 128kbps and i wasn't convinced that whoever made it did so from the best source

I would really love this. It's such a beautiful album, but the version I have is annoyingly low quality

I too am in need of a higher quality version of this album
I don't think we're technically supposed to be asking for PM's though. Or, if you do, I suppose you should do so via PM

hold on what is this time stretching. i have a version that is forwards and a version that is reversed - are some of these (or all of them?) sped up as well?

Palenka is definitely sped up on the album (reversed)

Evening lads and lasses. I didn't get round to it tonight, in quite late from work but I'll get on the case. Over the next few days, I reckon. I don't think it's a particularly dodgy thing to mention that I'll make sure it finds its way into the relevant hands. It's not exactly commercially available. If this is dodgy, please edit my post appropriately.

every now and then a song from this will pop up on shuffle and i am overwhelmed by how beautiful this album is. I swear to god if I weren't an emotionless husk i would cry every time opis helpus gets to the second half and avey does that "oooooooooooo-ooooooooooooohhh"
EDIT: a lossless copy of this would be fantastic, mine is the shitty 192kbps as well

No worries Stan, and thanks again for doing this!
I'm beginning to wonder if anyone out there has heard this album reversed & time-stretched in any quality other than 128kbps...

Three hours upload time here, evening ISP bottleneck bastards. It's sounding sweet, though. If it's not done before bedtime, I'll do what's necessary first thing tomorrow.

so just for clarification: the version that avey and kria originally released was both reversed and sped up?
and you reversed that version and slowed it down in an attempt to return it to how it sounded when it was initially recorded?
if that's the case, i'm really psyched to hear this. it's the only AC-related release i've never listened to because i was turned off by the fact that it was reversed

i'm pretty sure only 3 tracks are sped up.
ive had the reversed and slowed old versions forever, but would love to hear these in hq. thanks for doing this, stan.

did you get the wrong speed for palenka? my old version is 5:38 and seems to be more in line with the stone bootleg

The "corrected" version of this record is one of my favorite AC related releases. There's so much brilliance all over this record.
A lot of the songs breathe, in that they'll slightly slow down and speed up parts very subtly, in a way similar to flesh canoe.
Opis Helpus is one of the most beautiful things ever. it's such a visiual song too. When they say, "A little boy lookin', saw us kissin'" and they follow with that "Ohohoh... " it's lke they're impersonating his reaction to seeing them kissing. This record is full of things like that.
Also, Lay Lay off has one of the coolest parts aveys done. "It's a funny little thing...." through "I heard a siren, it killed the calm sound". Those little falsetto reverb stabs are just perfect.
It's very stripped down as a whole but every little thing added had a very specific purpose.
If Feels is the AC's love record, then PR is Aphrodite ritual.

I did feel it was a little brisk. I was in a bit of a rush so may have buggered that one up. I'll make amends.

This is what I love about AC and their solo projects. There's so much thought put into every song on every record, and yet at the same time there are often details that you'd miss if you weren't paying attention

oh man that description makes me so psyched to hear this. it's kinda silly that i've been on CA since '08 and i've listened to terrestrial tones / jane / ac remixes / compilation tracks etc but i never bothered to check out this album lol, tho it is kinda nice that i overlooked this since i've overplayed almost everything else in their discography

I get a different vibe. I imagine avey and kria waking up at noon, walking to the classic looking French bakery down the street in the sun at 70 degrees (fahrenheit), going home to smoke some hash and recorded these songs with all the windows open allowing sun and light wind to invade the home space.
It sounds somber yet sun-kissed.

Its kind of a shame a lot of people will never be bothered to hear the fixed up version of this album (and fair enough too really) cos its pretty damn good. Did they ever say exactly why they didn't just release the songs normally?

I think they backwards'd it maybe accidentallly and were like hey this sounds rad so they did it just like that. I believe it was a spur of the moment thing and maybe they didn't expect people to take it so seriously?

That's what kind of makes me a little sad. They had a great suite of songs on this album and they kind of screwed themselves over by releasing it in a different state. But that's what I think - judging by Avey's response they just did it because they want to, which I can also respect.
Does suck that I can never hear a proper vinyl version of PR tho, least till i get a turntable that can go backwards
