Sounds like deakin played some new songs recently at at Rhizome’s Seventh Stanine Fest in DC on Saturday (6/14/25), posted to reddit by jesus_of_cool. eventually some of this stuff might turn into an album or something so thought there should be a thread to anticipate and discuss

It sounds just as personal as Sleep Cycle but much darker. Like Sleep Cycle's darker twin. I hope we see a solo album with this material on it.

wow - these sounds amazing. far far far from where i thought he was heading when he shared those piano ballads many moons ago. in a good way. these songs sound really developed too - studio ready to my ears.

Can't believe he played Rhizome. I've been to so many shows there and even played there myself. Looking forward to that new album, however long it takes. Now we wait!

i have quite a few videos of the deakin show in brooklyn 3/27... should i upload these or has somebody else already captured the entire audio and thus made my videos relatively irrelevant?

fwiw i will say i found the new songs AWESOME and think this direction is incredible for deakin. the songwriting quality is very much still there, but the soundscapes and intriguing song structures got me so curious all the same. it was a really wonderful show to experience.

Upload if you’re willing! I always like to see the videos! Plus I was there so it would help relive the night!

hell yeah! glad you also experienced the show. it was so sick. i was luckily 2nd row-ish so had just a completely unblemished and immersive experience. but it was a small space so i imagine most there had an amazing experience regardless.

that cheer when he announced the new album when everybody in the room joined in so hard... and then we started chanting his name. deakin was so grateful but also trying to say his next thing, but nobody would let him! we had just heard so many tracks from the new album and were way too impressed to do anything but fully thank him for the strength of the new tunes. it was so special to experience.

he hasn't recorded it yet... but he confirmed a new album is coming and that he wants to get these performances out of the way so he can get into the studio and record! my videos above were all the clips from the new songs that i recorded. they sound incredible.

Just a heads up the first and third song from the first clip aren't new. First one is "Harpy (Red)" which he released in 2016 on cassette and the third is "Stride Rite" from Animal Collective's "Isn't it Now?" from 2023. But regardless thanks for sharing, super jealous of you for getting to see him on this run of shows!
