whats the story behind this one.. just kinda one they did in 2003 on radio and shit... kinda one of their best songs ever hehe. probably like my 2nd favorite after ms. defeat. their droning acoustic songs are such masterpieces and i wonder how it would sound recorded... because say what u will about these nutty maryland boys but visiting friend def sounds like one of gas' ambient drones...

Top 10 AC track for me, what a gem! To your point about the Gas comparison there was an old interview where they said they were influenced by the Kompakt Pop Ambient compilations of the early 2000s. So that tracks. I love how the two versions are so different. One is day dreaming and the other feels like a dark acid trip.

I've asked Avey about Always You and the rumor that it mightve came from or is Visiting Friends live but he laughed and said no. Always You was always it's own thing.

Which I never really bought into that(easy to say now, right? ha). Tuning-wise they sound nothing alike. I think VF has 2 chord changes and AY sound s like one chord being played in 3 different ways on 3 different guitars. I fucking love that acoustic sound so much. that whole Era right before they zoned in on feels stuff was pretty magically and ashame more music lovers don't have easy access to it bc it's pretty unknown shit still 20 years later. .. glad you brought it up again!

One of their best songs ever so obviously it was never properly released and can only be listened to on youtube. Almost makes me wish more of their songs went unreleased. It has the AC magic trapped in its amber. Forever preserved as two radio sessions with two slightly different vibes. For heads' ears only. It's such an effortlessly 'classic' AC song as well, in the same way Safer and Fireworks and Purple Bottle are. Immediately and forever opens you up to their world. I've gladly played it around other people who would be unfamiliar with the band and they always end up asking what it is, who sings it. Always do
