Would love an official release of the awesome 2022 live material. Got me thinking about which is their best official live release so far?
Probably 9:30 for me because Avey screams. It’s like an ultimate compendium of his best live screaming outside Rev Green. It has my fav Feels tracks (DYSTW and Purple Bottle), my favourite MPP tracks (ITIC and Bro Sport), my fav CHz era tracks (Honeycomb and NTB). Plus it gives the CHz songs their original feel/energy. Plus The Purple Bottle is absolutely bat shit crazy.

Hollinndagain for me. Feels so exciting and driven. Pan, Pride, Forest Gospel and Lablakely Dress are incredible. Not as fussed about the rest but they annihilate almost everything else AC ever did in terms of raw, foreboding, cathartic energy.

Yeh, it’s a close second for me. First three tracks are absolutely incredible as far as raw creative energy. The rest can’t match it. I often think some live radio sessions of some Danse stuff after the Pan/Pride/Forest suite would have kicked it into classic status. Obviously Lablakely is there. I’m talking more like Ahh Good Country or something vampy with a big gnarly build and plenty of noise.

Totally agree, wish it was all to that level, would probably be my favourite AC album if so.

Yeh I can see that. Perfect combo of Danse and Ark styles with the live energy and pure cathartic primal power of that period of the band.

Funny, was just re-listening to Ballet Slippers last night and wanted to come on here to reaffirm that it's utter garbage compared to what it could've been. SO many lacklustre choices and the mixing is pretty whack. That Sydney show on YT is poss my fav of the era.
Anyhow agreed on the Hollind raw energy but it does really fall off imo. I come back to 9:30 aaaaaaall the time. Tbf those PW era shows on Bandcamp (especially the 2017 one) are pretty sweet too, I'd almost take those over Hollind.

college street 2017 is so fucking wild, feels like the band is knowingly and voraciously burning off the very last reserves of frantic energy that had propelled them through the last 15 years. feels special to have a document of that moment, it's like a video of a star becoming a red giant

I was at that Sydney show!
Wish they’d do a Pearl Jam and just release a million live shows that have been nicely recorded.

Yeah as special as Hollinndagain is I think it’s got to be Live at the Ritz or College Street (there’s an ideal track list between the two of these, although each has tracks that means I have to visit both). I’d argue they match Hollinnd in release of cathartic creative energy, and as much fun as this live era has been it seems downright sleepy in comparison—would love to see something similar sometime again.

Live at the Ritz for sure! The whole stretch from recycling>daily routine>summing the wretch>natural selection>alvin row is one of the finest music they've ever recorded. And the rest of the album is also top notch, especially lying in the grass and the 11 minute techno loch raven!
I really hope we also get at least 3 live albums from the past few tours on Bandcamp after IIN drops.

Just realised I bought both Ritz and College Street but can't remember ever listening to them. I'll remedy.

went for 930, mainly for NTB > I Think I Can > Pulleys > WWIW?S. Plus I find full show releases the most satisfying. even though I mostly just listen to that middle third.

yeah baby.
new favourite moment like that is on the PBSB Bellwether boot, panda saying "alright here we go" barely an instant before triggering the sample for gettin to the point

Yeh this stretch is amazing. first half of WWIWS goes HARD.
Then the home stretch of Monkey Bro Sport and Purple Bottle is just massive.

It seems weird to put Hollinndagain in this category since it's essentially all original material. When I put it on, I don't think of it as putting on a "live" album in the way I do 9:30 and Ballet Slippers and the bandcamp releases.

Voted Hollindagain, but this thread is making me want to revisit Live at 930. Haven't put it on since it came out. I remember there being good performances, but also I'm just not that big of a fan of the 2012-13 centipede live era.

Relistening to some of 9:30 for the first time in years because of this thread and this fucking goes man. Wish the cover was better.

Yeah I have some mixed feelings on it. I was a fan during the pre CHZ tour but didn't go to any of the shows so the after album tour was the first I saw and I attended a rescheduled show and a a festival set where Avey gave up in the middle of What Would I Want Sky? and walked off stage so I'm always kind of like eh do I really want to go back and listen to that but most of the time when I do I'm surprised at how good they were.

I voted hollinndagain because it’s hollinndagain, but yesterday I relistened to 9:30 and man what a great set. WWIWS is massive, that extended pulleys, and then the triple threat encore. it just gets better and better

I gotta go 9:30, but all of them are great.
Animal Crack Box obviously doesn't get enough attention since it's not streaming but man Iko Ovo and Do the Nurse go so hard.

I'm one of the 3 weirdos who voted for Crack Box
I'm a sucker for supremely lo-fi noisy live recordings of manic, primitive psychedelia.
I would really love to own the vinyl one day, but boy are they expensive

I did too. I think it's the most interesting one because that material was seemingly performed a lot less than anything from studio albums. So it all sounds fresh still, especially since there's so much of it!
(to poll maker) Calling Ballet Slippers "MPP for the tone-deaf" is wack.

same here dude. almost bought it once but it seems no one ever has the poster it originally came with, which i would require. crackbox just has so much variety in song writing while having the gritty lo-fi appeal of hollindagain (in some respects, obviously not as noisy) also some real gems you can't find anywhere else like jungle heat, one of my favorite deep cuts. CS is definitely in my top 3 so Crackbox has a lot of stuff from around that era that is similar in style. so many good tracks.
i honestly expected crackbox to have more votes but i get why hollin or 930 are preferred

Don't have an opinion on the poll option title, but honestly Ballet Slippers was pretty wack. I don't even remember listening to bootlegs of that era that sounded that flat.... and then putting it out for $60? Just weird ass choices all around (imo, of course. and I could go for a revisit of MPP boots and Ballet Slippers to give a more clear assessment)

I really liked it but never really got into MPP boots. Otherwise I probably would have different feelings about it.
I really love the Banshee Beat and Daily Routine versions on there in particular

2009 was maybe the worst possible year they could have picked for a release of this style. Did they not want to commit the early versions of the MPP songs to wax?

Ha! Glad it got a rise out of someone. I’m just dirty that they didn’t release one of the incredible 2007 boots instead.

The poster was a separate thing to order with the crack box art, but didn't come with the box set if I recall correctly, fwiw (in case you want to buy a box set next time you see one)
