In my head (atleast in terms of the songs i wrote) theres a certain post medieval/renaissance futureistic forest lore thing happening in the 2nd group. Melodically. They are also a bit more ethereal

Definitely agree with the consensus that a lyric as the title is kinda off-putting. Would be cool if it was something like the strawberry meat line in cobewebs, works as a thesis for the whole era. Would feel a lot nicer if it was paraphrased in a way like that

I thought that maybe it's a lyric from the unknown song, but (I realize this is very much in the weeds) muark said that the title will make us go 'oh duh' and the stuff Willie dustice has been hinting makes me believe it's a song we've heard before. But you know... Most of this info is coming from discord and a user that just joined in the last month (possibly same person?), very little of it is solid. Not that I think they're lying, but there's that possibility without supporting info

I actually think this is kind of common. Some examples:
- Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca (appears on useful chamber)
- Caroline Polachek - Desire I want to Turn Into You (appears on Welcome to my Island)
- Disclosure - Caracal (appears on Nocturnal)
- Kacy Hill - Is it selfish if we talk about me again? (appears on Much Higher)
- Mac Miller - Swimming (Come back to earth)
- Melodrama - Lorde (appears on Sober II - though the subname is Melodrama so maybe this one doesn’t count)
Not including the rap albums where they adlib the title a bunch bc that’s a bit of a cop out, but it’s definitely been done before on some other notable albums and worked pretty well in my opinion

in seriousness, defeat is probably the least likely album title because they released it as a single and so the streaming services would have defeat ep and defeat album, people would get too confused by this!

guys not to be corny but i gotta say im pretty drunk and high at the moment and im listening to the hazel robinson boot and defeat is on and im getting pretty emotional, got into these guys a bit after the era started and i know i havent been waiting as long as yall but its very special to me being the first rollout ive gotten to be a part of. when time skiffs dropped it felt so special and this one feels even more monumental and im so glad this website is still going all these years later and there are so many great people to get hyped with!1! still in disbelief that defeat is out in the world, haven't been listening to it a ton because i'm really excited to see how it flows with the rest of thr album. feels exactly the way it did the two times i saw it live and it takes me right back to those moments. definitely agree that this one is gonna be special

A little unorthodox but I’ve been having an AC-obsessive kind of evening and I’ve thought a lot about this tracklist.

some reasoning:
The new song is supposedly poppy and medieval, setting up the album theme while also retaining the common AC habit of having a poppy first track.

Magicians kicks off the epic side of the album, being perfectly spaced from the other two

Gem & I grounds us again with a breezy panda jam

Stride Rite gets the Feels into gear, as the fourth track on an AC album often does

Soul Capturer lulls us into the psychedelic hypnosis to prepare for

Defeat, the centerpiece

Broke Zodiac snaps out of the despair and pulls the action back up

King Walk sets the stage for a send off, a ritual on the water preparing the ride into the

Genies Open, a classic AC closer with a big switch up around the mid point (Alvin Row, Turn Into Something, Brothersport, Derek, Amanita-ish) and a feeling of finality brilliantly shining to the end

Damn, i for sure thought magicians would open this shit. It's a perfect opener. Let's see it though. I'm with it. Sequence it however. Shits about to open with Stride rite.
