Taping @ The Warfield 5.21.22

Anyone planning to tape the show at the Warfield this Saturday? It's been a while since I've been to a show there so I don't know what the venue staff will be like. I've read mostly bad things, but then I read bad things about a lot of venues and get good tapes from them anyway. The more recordings the better. For some dumb reason I bought GA balcony seats. But I honestly don't remember if they were selling loge tickets or if everything upstairs was GA. I prefer loge because it's easy to clamp there and it's above the chatterfucks you get in the Bay Area.

Anyway, it's AC, and their shows are always good.

Hi, Cap'n. I'm also planning to record the Warfield show. I checked with the ticket people and was told that all the seats upstairs are GA, so I will head for the Loge. I've recorded other shows from there and I agree, it's the best spot. As for the staff, I haven't been there in a while also, but I'm pretty sure that the Goldenvoice folks are still generally cool with recording if the band allows it.

Thanks michaelz! I know it's been postponed, but I take your comments to heart for future events there. I had already planned on being in the loge with another taper I met (I think you know him as well), so hopefully, if they reschedule at The Warfield again, we can just proceed as planned.

:D

Anybody recording tonight? Hoping we’ll get some unexpected twist in the set list after the little hiatus.

That setlist is all sorts of wrong. I'm working on it. They have a lot of unreleased material (i.e. no studio recording) and a lot of non-studio releases after all. Plus, the way they change things makes tracking sometimes difficult. This is a tough one! Hahaha. I and two other tapers were in attendance (open taping at least), so keep an eye out on the LMA for this release. It was a great show BTW ;)

Hi again, Cap'n. I posted this link in a couple of other threads on this board last week, might as well put it here as well.

As always, michaelz, a fantastic recording. You're an asset to taping in general and to the AC community specifically.

Here's mine. I hope it's worthy. For some reason the order isn't registering properly, but I'm working on getting that straight. I know the tags are correct...

the ordering is kinda finicky, it likes to list the files alphabetically so i stick the track number (two digits!! important for any shows with more than 9 songs) before the name of the song. LMA has a recommended file naming convention which is

Code: Select all

[band abbreviation, in our case 'acollective'][date of show][track number].ext
but what i usually do is

Code: Select all

acollective[date]t_[track number][track name].ext
for clarity when looking at the files.

also this boot sounds fantastic!! nice to have multiple for one show

Thanks, opalmagpie!

The last time I uploaded to the LMA was, I think, in 2018 (Sung Tongs tour) and I don't remember what I did. I probably followed the LMA recommendation. So I'll reupload them properly. I think my Sung Tongs tape is the only one available on the LMA for that tour, actually. I'm better at mastering now, so I'll have to redo that one as it wasn't a perfect recording.

Thanks for the complement too. I'm trying to improve my game all the time. Best thing I did to do that was invest in a better recorder (MP3II). Night and day.

you can actually just rename the files in the LMA editor! you hit edit (on the left with manage and history) and choose the "change the files" option. then right clicking on the file you can rename it. takes a second to take effect as most things do on archive.org lol

Thanks michaelz and captainentropy!!
It was a really great show and am really glad to be able to listen to it again. That transition from Unsolved Mysteries to Gemini was incredible. If either of you are in the bay still, lets connect and talk music.

You were luckier at that Oakland show than I was. As I mentioned here in the "Sung Tongs tour 2018" topic, the door staff insisted that the band said it was a no-audio recording show (even though I'd recorded their other shows at the same venue), so I was forced to check my gear at the door. Strangely, though, the staff didn't say no to photo and video, so I did a bunch of that. (I linked my two YouTube videos of six songs in that post. Could have gotten much better audio for that with the checked gear!)

And you're right, your recording of that show (2018-07-30) is the only one on the LMA from the Sung Tongs tour (the only one for all of 2018, actually). I look forward to your remaster. In the meantime, I can upload the Atlanta show (2018-07-17), which I got a couple years ago via a BT site and just now realized is not on the LMA. (This sounds like the same recording that's linked in the "All Known Live Recordings" topic."

Wow, I didn't know they were no-audio that night! I woulda  it anyway but not uploaded it to the LMA without their go ahead. I feel bad. I want to respect the bands wishes. My rig wasn't as hq as it is now. The Neumann's are great but I was feeding that into an M10. I must've bumped the rec level down because it was pretty low. Too much hiss and it being an acoustic show it's kinda obvious I had my levels off. 32-bit float woulda come in handy that night! hahaha

Looking forward to the ATL upload. That was the first performance of Sea of Light (I guess now it's Genie's Open).

I wouldn't worry about that LMA upload. I still think the door staff got it wrong (and wouldn't check with the tour manager at the show). I think the only reason the band would not allow recording is if they were doing their own, for possible release. Of course, they weren't doing that (and the staff clearly knew to permit photo and video).
