Hey guys, I'm new here and relatively new to AnCo. Can anybody tell me the difference between "Song for Ariel" and "Guys Eyes"??

The best version of Ariel is on the Panda Bear live Ma Fama performance.

Ariel is the proto-Guys Eyes, basically. Prettier, just sample and voice. Better.

Ariel is the original Panda solo version of the song. Guys Eyes is the animal collectivized version.

I always preferred ariel but over time the ac version has become equally good in my eyes if not better. The version from pandas atp 2009(?) show is cool too cause I think he adds a little bridge that isn't on ma fama.

Ariel definitely sounds how should it be. Prefer to guys eyes but still both wonderful songs. The jam in guys eyes is ridiculous live though but you Guys already know that. Panda just always kills it on those tracks.

The Gov. Island boot that came with Tomboy has a great version of it with the coda. Not quite as good as the ma fama take because the ending on the latter is one of the greatest things ever, but it's definitely top notch.

The extended jam AC was doing with Guys Eyes during the 2009 tour was also amazing. Lots and lots of versions of this song, and, oddly, the official LP release is probably at the bottom of my list despite still being excellent

this is one of my favorite ac songs. i remember being really disappointed that they didn't include the "so i'll use my mind" loop they jam on live on the record

hey you're right its not in the studio one. Maybe it would make that part too dense for the studio version? Maybe at 6:52 he is just fading in a little live captured loop of the delay from when he is singing I'll use my mind earlier in the song?

I like song for ariel the most. Guys eyes just sorta tires me out after a little while, especially the 10-minute live versions. And SfA is smooth like butta

Both are great, but guys eyes was one of the first songs that reaaaalllyyy pulled me into mpp back when i wasnt a huge fan. Song for ariel is so good tho, its hard to pick - i really like guys eyes because aveys verses i almost prefer to pandas on that track - but song for ariel is way more intimate and personal and i feel the weight of what pandas saying more

I love both but Guys Eyes is my favorite/most listened to song ever. The studio version and the jammy live version are both just bliss for me.

both versions are great. avey's concurrent vocal lines make the studio/full band live versions (just like taste). REALLY seriously still missing that "i'll use my mind" sample though. very badly.

i get it tho - it's a droning, almost dissonant part that wouldn't fit in with the bright super major key piano, it shifts the mood of the ending
