that pizza story is godlike, and it seems like they are actually coming in on closingthe production of the album judging by what deakin said, which could mean a spring 2021 release. very exciting!! maybe even winter with a surprise drop like bridge to quiet.

Yeah it definitely gave me the impression that they were pretty close to being done. My official prediction is that we will hear the next lp by April.

Whenever they get together as a band they order a Four Seasons pizza and have a 'season' each.
Noah has Spring
Josh likes Summer
Dave is obviously Autumn
Brian always Winter
When Jeremy played with them on the PW tour, they wondered what to do without it being awkward so they just ordered a side of garlic bread for him.

Q:Do you two have any weird or wild experiences from putting tours together during the early days that you could share?
BW: I think we’ve told it before, but probably our most memorable one was in 2002 at an old church in Minneapolis that had become a group house that put on DIY noise shows. They had pizza for sale that was cut into small squares. We passed on it because we had already eaten dinner. At the end of the night, we were told each pizza square had a hit of acid on it but we didn’t know that during the show. People got increasingly weird during our set and a few of them started coming up on stage and tried to have conversations with us about the evil spell we were casting. I think someone tried to take off Josh’s shoes and socks in the middle of a song? One guy wigged out, went outside, and attacked the vans. We got a dent in ours but I think another band got a window punched out. Later on, when almost everyone had left, he was still there crying about how he had lost his leather jacket.
A week later we were on another bill with one of the bands from that night and they had the jacket. They had taken it from the van attacker as a way to get him to pay for the broken window, but he was beyond having a conversation, so they just kept it. Sometimes I think the weirdest part of the story though is that we were offered free pizza and said no thanks.

They did Pride and Fight > Jimmy Mack a few days later in Jacksonville and MANNN that show was bonkers. Same post-election we all have to stick together vibes, amazing crowd and blistering energy from the band. It felt like Avey really coming alive as a ringleader and master of ceremonies, creating a memorable communal experience.

Pet project of mine a while back was reverse phasing AC songs, depending on how the dudes mixed/recorded things I could get the occasional instrumental song (water curses/peacebone). Wondering what's the best way to share these, soundcloud? I'm not really into youtube but i'll consider it

Soundcloud and YouTube can both be treacherous about copyrighted stuff but I think they just block tracks rather than ban people these days. I guess mixcloud could be safest but dunno how it works. Or vimeo even, I made an account just to post my Frank Ocean thing when YouTube blocked it

Well in between a religion and being a die hard fan of a sports team. What I mean to say is that they're a big part of my life. But I've never been religious and don't watch sports anymore. So maybe my comparisons are shakey.

oh i wasn't throwing shade. actually the opposite, really. i'm a doctoral student in mythological studies. there's a lot that i could say about the cosmology of ac; i just thought it was funny imagining what yr saying coming from your avatar, which is obvs a religious/mythic figure.

AC definitely provide abstract spiritual knowledge, kind of oblique emotional knowledge that helps you remember that very specific and unique feelings do exist and still can happen

There's something about how they think about the sonics of their songs that feel really spiritual. One example being the juxtaposition of serenity and chaos (Cuckoo, In the Flowers, loch raven). It reminds me of how intense life can be emotionally even while your day is going pretty regularly. There's this great performance by Nina Simone where she's really getting into a song and says "the spirits moving now". I feel that way when I hear a lot of AC live recordings. For me, my favorite songs are where they create a world of sound and I get to walk around or just exist in that world for a while (like 2004 Kids on Holiday).
Sometimes I can't make any sense of it at all in the moment, but can only marvel at how cool it sounds. And also just feel what I need to feel. Like the last segment of the Defeat in Point Reyes 2019. I felt like I was seeing death/sorrow/horror. Hella visceral. Can't forget it.

Yeah wow that Nina Simone performance is intense. She looks like she's nearly overcome with emotion when she says that. AC definitely know how to get totally lost in the music. It always feels a bit voyeuristic to see or hear them performing.

fuck, she died the year before Bush got reelected. No wonder Björk and Radiohead lost their mojo for a bit around 2004! (I'm being silly, obviously they have personal lives)
Also no wonder Kanye West and Sufjan Stevens blew up around that time. Everyone was feeling VERY upset with America and with conservative Christians

Haha, only if Danny Perez directs the hologram... and black dice score their walk on stage music.

Y'all ever load up their songs in audacity and play them at different speeds? Bagels in Kiev at half speed is such a banger. The beat really comes out and the synth parts all sparkle so much more

Can't wait until these songs get stretcheeeed and slowed and mutated in future live shows. Imagine a Campfire Songs / Meeting of the Waters version of PW???

I've been thinking for a while that i'm looking forward to hearing full band reworks of the painting era tracks. I was hoping for one or two on the 2019 tour but it didn't happen.

Don't they usually wait a cycle or two before really reworking past LPs? Can't say I'd expect any crazy PW reworks until the tour behind their NEXT new album after the upcoming one.

yes I listen to AC slowed down a lot. Partly just to make it last longer but also because it sounds awesome.
