Rosie Oh seems like it could have easily been on this record sans Josh's guitar.

In the scheme of things that correction might not seem like a lot, but for such a high profile review it's pretty glaring to come from a writer who seemed to have quite an emotional connection with AC.

yes, that and lying in the grass.
golden gal as a port of morrow song, lying in the grass as a wincing the night away song. melodically, at a couple points. totally feel you.

Lol. Pitchfork really is something. They slam the album yet lurk this message board and band member's Instagrams like they're massive fans who would post here. Whatever. I suggest everyone take Avey's words to heart. We're the ones "standing in the light of the secret," as our Pitchfork boy puts it so well. And it feels good.

yea totally, especially cause it's pretty hard to confuse those 2 live eras. it's not like if you saw them in 07 and you weren't sure if they had already started playing the Merriweather jams. when they started playing Feels jams it was clearly a different thing than those acoustic shows Panda and Avey played
I guess when you're a music journo you probably listen to so much stuff that it's easy to get things mixed up, but still seems surprising that he'd make that mistake

The whole basis of his review was that he was an OG fan who heard Sung Tongs before it existed. That correction really invalidates the whole thing, lmao

I wonder what else Animal Collective have up their sleeve for the next couple months... Wasn't there rumors that they recorded a music video in South America, and the visuals Abby made still haven't been used in anything. And of course the last two songs that they mentioned in an interview.

Same guy also wrote a big piece on pitchfork about how Sung Tongs changed his life, so maybe it was just a typo & not a mistaken memory? Seems if that album has such an impact on you, you would remember an early live introduction.

this is a review I can get behind 200000%. He gives you the ups, the downs, the in-betweens; he describes in great detail exactly what he felt about the album without it feeling like a word-count-essay.

Also, who else here is really hoping for a sped up, original tempo version of "Taste" for the live shows???? I feel like the original live version would really mash well with the
PW songs.

Could see the looser hip-hop version returning alright, only faster.

Assuming you're talking about "Taste", I would absolutely love to hear an ultra high speed version of it... At the same time, I'm just wondering if this tour is going to mean crazy long in-between jams or more songs...

Totally want to hear Water Curses or From A Beach live
A funny little cop-out would be if they played the "bonefish" sample and went into Recycling instead of Peacebone.

Not to dwell too much on this--though who am I kidding, this topic has lots more mileage left--I really hate that self-important, smug attitude towards art contained in that tweet. It's why I generally hate/ignore the vast majority of critique. We are the arbiters of what's considered good music and bad music, says each and every publication. As if each one is a collective hive mind of writers and editors all on the same wave-length, representing a golden, unified ideal. There is a site--the name fails me--that has multiple writers review the same thing. This, in theory, seemed like a much more intuitive and organic way of doing things but I'm pretty sure what I read there was smug wankery as well.
I guess it's just spawned a whole generation of people who live and die off of numbers and bite-sized vitriol: gravitating opinions around Rottentomatoes and throwing 7.4s at each other.

What a fucking dick. I don't really care what his opinion about the album is, you just don't talk that kind of trash about any artist. That's straight up a devaluation of their efforts.

just my 2 cents
