Early standouts to me are Token, I Know I Don't Know and Buoys. Was worried that the autotune would feel overplayed but it's used in way more interesting ways than Dolphin throughout most of the album. Also, does the mix on Dolphin sound slightly different than the single to anyone else? Like there's more kick to it here, I think it sounds much better. Or perhaps I'm just high. Feeling like a lot of these songs will be growers, super good album.

DON'T LEAVE IT ON THE GROUND
GO GO GO GO

yeah that part is massive, especially good if you read that press release that freebirded as well where he kinda goes into the meaning of that song. In general these are some of my favorite lyrics that Panda has written in a while. A relief because I thought a lot of Homies was kind of impenetrable lol.

some more random thoughts:
Spoiler: show
Crescendo has this really specific vibe that I can't quite pin down, it sounds like British pop from the 60s or maybe 90s. Like it could be a Pulp song or something lol.
The refrain at the end of Token is the best repetitive Panda climax since like I KNOW I KNOW in Jetty, but this might be even better. Fuck.
Inner Monologue is good but that's one I only listened to boots of like once or twice and I guess my memory of what it sounded like was kind of inaccurate. I kept waiting for it to reach more of a high point but it sorta felt like it just collected a lot of energy and never released it. Feel like it will grow on me tho, there are certain moments of it that are stunning.
edit: Holy shit that Panda tweet lmao

so pretty, sweet and kind of like brave or something. so fucking glad hes being more upfront with his vocal mixing/production, even if there is still a lot of experimentation going on, it feels like the most direct kind of communication from him vocally/lyrically and its very sweet. my sweet sweet panda boy, thanks u sweety <3... very tender but still kind of um fierce

first impressions this is really great stuff, loved pretty much every song all the way through the end. definitely sounds like it was informed a lot by the sung tongs tour (especially on "Inner Monologue" which is probably my favorite on the first listen), or maybe revisiting the acoustic sounds inspired the sung tongs tour. not sure which happened first. I'm weirdly reminded a lot of Vashti Bunyan's music because of the clarity and upfrontness of the vocals and the intimacy of the acoustic folky parts (and not to mention the songs with some flutes in the background). but obviously it has a much more modern sound because of the autotune and all the precise effects

the production is so clean and wonderful (missed you Rusty!), a lot of the songs up until tracks 7 and 8 sounded kinda samey but I'm not complaining because the formula is so great this time around. and I'm sure their unique traits will emerge over time as I get used to them. seems really weird this was planned to be released in the dead of winter because it's so watery and summery. early september would've actually been perfect for it

master fucking slaps. i definitely wish buoy was longer, and the whole album for that matter. there was this transition thing he did live for master at the end which i loved but wasn't on the album. other than that, i mean it's panda bear, cmon. of course i love it. it will definitely grow more on me like homies did.

Who's that whimpering and crying at the start of Inner Monologue? Best thing he's done since Bros owl.

FUCK ME

The vocals on this one are UNBELIEVABLE.

The whimpering continues.

I always adored the droney noise, so fuckin deep.

UGH

How distorted and blown out and kind of flat and brain dead are the VOCALS???!!!

IN THE BEST FUCKIN WAY

WOW

OOOONNNNEE

OH my FUCK

Inner Monologue and Crescendo are instant favorites for me.

Buoys was my jam for months now and I feel it lost some of the soul. Demoitis strikes again.

Great release overall. Stoked for that red vinyl.

That whistling instrumental break is the deepest weirdest thing he's ever done maybe. How am I buzzing off some mad synth whistle so much? Am I enjoying it, you ask? Let's just say have you seen a chocolate fondue fountain where the chocolate keeps flowing like a perpetual motion machine well that's my trousers right now but instead of choco-late it's a boiling geyser of spunk. Wow. That gentle string in Master. Fuck me this is BERSERK. What the frig is this??

I'm absolutely gobsmacked by this. I haven't heard anything that's just knocked me on my ass like this since Down There. The singing is so weird, I love the auto tune and strange notes and effects. I adore his low register crooning, especially on Inner Monologue. What a fucking song that is. It just sounds so erotic and eerie. It's like something from the original Wicker Man, like the amazing Gently Johnny. I am staggered by this and wish Noah every success with it. I have no idea how it will go down with the shit munchers but for me and people with developed faculties, this is a revelation.
