Important news:
I had a dream I was in a garage with some dude that wished the 90s never ended with a few synths and then Deakin showed up because he needed to do an interview with this guy for some reason, but he seemed sad that it was just me, him and some other random guy in the corner. So Deakin just left after a few minutes but I said something like, "seriously, your music is so amazing, thanks for everything you do" and then he said "thanks dude" and left. Then the 90s dude showed me a tv with a boombox hooked up to it for the soundsystem in front of a grungy old couch and asked if I wanted to play Switch with him. Then I woke up.

Deakin wrote:
In some ways SJ was this turning point, a rapid new growth with harder contrasts and less blending. The songs in that era feel more jagged and chaotic. I think my favorite song was the song that embraced that state the most, “Cuckoo Cuckoo.” Dave’s lyrics are stunning on that song, and I have often wondered why journalists rarely—if ever—focus on the lyrical content of the band. The flow on that song between loss and longing and beauty is a surrender to life that is both defeatist and anything but defeatist, dancing in the madness of impermanence. It still does the same thing to me that it did when he first introduced it, giving me deep body chills.

Fun read, glad they're on Bandcamp now. Interesting to see prospect Hummer considered out of all the EPs as essential. I'd have a hard time not choosing fall be kind (which is totally missing here, as is hcti/ark)

Cool article, esp. the bit with Geo reflecting on Sung Tongs. Interesting perspective on that album for sure

^that was really cool. I always just imagine that all the guys are like fully aware and just like accepting of the material the others do, even when they're sitting out an album, and then u realize that they're all legitimate fans of one another..

To me, the highlight of that interview is Panda talking about Sleep Cycle:
wrote:
Josh and I met in 2nd grade and began writing music together when we were around 13 or 14 years old. What sticks out to me about Sleep Cycle is feeling so glad for Josh that he’d finished the album and that it came out so well and people really dug it. I know it was a battle for him, so it felt really good to see him nail it.
It's very sweet!

Wonder if we'll be seeing some incarnation of the Music Box performances during the quarantine.
They've been sitting on the video/audio material since well before the pandemic and now that quarantine has halted any new recording, I'm sure both the band and the venue's in-house editors have more time for post production. A release of some kind could also benefit the venue, which I'm sure is struggling along with the rest of the live entertainment industry.
Maybe they're taking a "remixing/collaging" approach to the performances, similar to what they did with the new EP, omitting and or saving stuff that overlaps with the to-be-recorded LP.
I'm also guessing a live archive is in the works. Would be a perfect quarantine project for the band, that could also help offset income lost from the cornpilled tour.

^cool
What if goalkeeper was the lead single for PW instead of Florida. And Florida had just been the lead single for the painters ep instead of kinda bonkers.

Bummed there isn't a single Record Store Release from anyone. No excuse. I'd love Panda ATP 2013 or an Avey 2011 show pressed.

All this middle age chat. I'm telling you, I'll still be here in ten years and I'll be waiting for you all to start creaking so I can announce your impending doom. I literally can't wait.

The ooohs at the end of disc one still get me. Reminds me of this past winter working at a bakery and closing up shop during Christmas time. Thats what that sound reminds me of.

If average lifespan is mid 70s to 80s then it seems around 40 literally makes a good age to begin being "middle-aged".
Life is short y'all.

Actually I dunno if I count 60-69 as "old" it's a bit of an unlabeled decade like your 30s

Check out "With Sage" by Navy Blue... samples the same tune—whatever it is—that Avey does on "Tape Player Chants for Winter."
