Yes I was thinking the same thing, I would love if for the next AC era they kept the same lineup but focused on more free, abstract songs.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaalright I'm calling it once and for all. We're getting a single before the European tour and it's either gonna be Defeat, Magicians or Genie's. Might not come with an announcement (probably something like "more sounds for you soon) but we'll at least get an EP and/or album by March. Then a couple more tour dates but not the full business (perhaps a few first half of year festival dates or somewhere they haven't been in ages like Aus or S America).

I was thinking this too, but I also feel that way slightly about Gem and I. Maybe it was the energy at NJ, but that song felt way livelier and almost had a kind of "peacebone tropicality" a few days ago compared to then.

Completely agree. I'm psyched that they still managed to record some (or all? of what will be the next record with Elevado, but to think we could have wound up with a double album magnum opus from AC, all analog, produced/engineered by Elevado is an alternate reality I would love to be living in. Damn pandemic timeline. In any case, love hearing Avey talk about the vibe on D'Angelo records though, and still very happy with how Time Skiffs turned out. Can't wait to hear the next batch.

someone said recently that geo said the record's almost done, just needs more mastering maybe? ts was mastered by june 10 so im not expecting anything this year tbh

The time is right and these songs aren’t getting any younger, I don’t see them touring them again next year. Would love to see them strike while the iron is still hot, they’re sitting on classics

Skiffs will appear on a bunch of year end lists, and that’ll be good pr for the early 23 release, which will appear on a bunch of year end lists. It makes business sense to hold off for awhile.

i'd been confident about a Q1 2023 release for TS2 until around May/June when it seemed there was more mystery about how the songs would be released and i was starting to feel like Q2 was more likely... however this news restores my confidence for a Q1 release.

i'm thinking late Feb, early March this time.


it wasn't that long ago -- July or Aug? -- that we were even wondering if there wouldn't be an album, rather a series of EPs... if the language both Geo and Deakin used explicitly was "album" or "record" to me that seems like a good sign we're at least getting one nice-sized LP...


as for first single, i'm hoping for "Genie's Open."

I bet they drop an LP before Christmas. Physical copies to follow in 2023.

Timeline so far still points to a early '23 release. The Dec-Jan sessions were mixed in June at Drop of Sun, if Avey's IG posts are anything to go by (https://i.redd.it/t0ahai6707u81.jpg). Would line up with a Feb-March release if they're looking to have vinyl available on release day. Also the Skiffs-esque collage bits he posted around the same time...

I think lead single before EU tour is a high possibility too. I never considered Soul Capturer as having single potential before, but the Summerstage recording convinced me. Also found it odd for the band to share clips of it to IG, can't remember them ever doing that before with an unreleased song.

I wouldn't immediately assume they make any appearance on the new record, especially since they both barely crack two minutes. Yet, if they can keep Strung from us as long as they did certainly anything's possible.

Am I missing something here? They’ve been resharing live clips from every show on their IG story, including pretty much every post-Skiffs song. Was there something more official/in-studio?

You're not, least I don't think so lol. I've seen lots of videos from every night of the tour, taken by various fans that they reposted and tagged them in, but the clips from Summerstage of SC weren't from anyone else, it wasn't a repost and they looked like they were recorded from the sound booth. Completely possible I've missed other times they did this, was just my first experience seeing clips that were filmed by them and not fans.

AC albums usually have at least 8-9 months from recorded being done to release, but the pandemic messed everything up. Based on the time skiffs schedule of when mastering was done, if they finish mastering this month maybe we’re looking at like April-June ish?

Also it’s a stupid reason not to put an album out, but their last 2 LPs also came out in February and maybe they want to avoid that haha

not like this would happen but if we did get a single in october magicians would be cool cause its kinda spooky and the guys are big into halloween, but also that's the one I'm excited for the most and id rather just have to wait a little longer and get it with the rest of the album.

yea I remember them saying they were really excited about all the skiffs/skiffs 2 songs so it would make sense if they did kind of a czh thing rather than the typical companion EPs

Well considering Reset just came out and they also have the Inspection score to promote in November I doubt we’ll be hearing anything from skiffs 2 until maybe February

The thing about it is that the tour in Nov. isnt the start of a new tour. Its just the last leg of the 2022 tour altogether. Thats why some of us are doubtful of a single to a new LP.
Now I could see a single for an EP tho. I believe Avey n Deak at one point or another have hinted to an EP in interviews. For instances, Genies Open was last talked about it in that way.

Mountain Game came out for a later leg of their PW cycle tho

When did The Painters come out tho? after the initial PW tour which was a year earlier in '16. And they were either touring still after that or mmmmaybe about to do the Sung Tongs anni tours.

Painters came out in Feb, a few months before they restarted with PW tour (still had a few months left). FBK also came out just before the Australian leg of the MPP tour towards the end of 09.

I still reckon there's a good chance we get a single before the nov leg. Probably not a full EP and maybe just a standalone single rather than a pre-album single (a la Honeycomb/Gotham) but could make sense if they're leaving bits off a full length to keep the run time down a bit. Like I said before on this thread, I can very much see it being a longer one like Defeat, Magicians or Genie's.
