I really hope they do that. Having a single song take up a side of a record is very satisfying. Like Visiting Friends.

I've had a few dreams lately starring Animal Collective. Dave is still on keys. Noah is behind the kit, of course, but his rhythms and textures—more than ever—"rock." There is someone I don't recognize holding a strange stringed instrument. At any rate, I am excited to report that, from my (admittedly unreliable) recollection of the new songs they played therein, the new record will be excellent (and weirder than expected).

ingenue's dreams are my only source for news these days since I stopped obsessively reading Pitchfork

Thanks ya'll. No album announcement, but there was another post on the AC insta today where Avey mentioned getting ready for the new era (It had some cool early Feels clips too!) Betting we get an announcement before the end of the month.

Thanks friends!
Love the Tongs and Feels insta clips so much.
"Animals, you cannot predict!"
Here's to kicking off a new era.

they're really ramping up their insta posts. i feel like a lot of bands do this shortly before an announcement to remind people they're alive. hopefully we get something in the next couple weeks and it doesn't take another 5 months

the throwback posts have been so fun. coincided with me getting back into sung tongs boots. It's been a while since I've listened to sung tongs and I'm hearing it with new ears, really blowing my mind. in the past so much of it had felt totally enigmatic but now I feel like I can catch a glimpse of the men inside the singing voices.
anyway off topic... keen as fuck for the new era!

Abby mentioned in a new podcast interview (Three in a Bar) that it’s going to be an east coast tour

I said this in another thread but I think they're going to announce something soon. Half my social media feed is bands announcing tours .

yeah when they announced pitchfork they added they'd be doing a small run of outdoor shows leading up to it, i'm holding out that they make a stop or two in the midwest. ohio & michigan are en route to chicago, right?!

it will be wonderful to find out about how all of the new music is cohabitating
That is, if a lot of new music was written last year, they then have the original Music Box songcycle, the hybrid one from 2019 with all of the new songs added, and now there may also be the results of their improvising project which may have been mostly or all new music!

Yeah, I can't imagine what the songs will turn out like. I wonder if they will go for the kind of dry production style panda has been into lately like the newer version of a day with the homies and buoys or if it will be more open like his killer remixes and bridge to quiet. I hope they still leave space for expansive sounds and booming bass.

^ Bass guitar was Avey's big focus instrument on their 2019 tour so I imagine that'll remain in tact and can't wait to hear how it sounds on record

I'll stand with you on the Buoys hill. Great album. Needs to be heard in headphones.
I'm hoping the new AC is a cross between Feels instrumentals (basic rock band recorded setup this time) mixed with Bridge to Quiet sonic weirdness. I'll probably have demoitis because I've played a bootleg compilation of the new stuff a lot over the past year.

Domino seems to be working with a release schedule of one new LP per month, Tirzahs next album Colourgrade just got announced for October (very stoked about that one also). Makes me think the boys will be due for November? Announcement next month? Sorry to bump this thread again but as you can tell I'm getting desperate.

Thought they were talking about the relative lack of effects on those releases, especially the vocals
Like you can call the amount of reverb or delay applied to an audio signal “dry/wet”
To my ear the more “upfront” vocal delivery on Buoys sounds dryer, even if there is more autotune used on that guy

november seems like a weird time to release an animal collective album. i think we're looking at 2022.

Maybe I'm overoptimistic but I think we'll be getting _something_ this year. It'd be a bummer if we had to wait until '22 but I do have to admit I'm getting a little nervous with albums starting to be announced for October and beyond. Maybe part of me hopes it just won't be the usual ~3 month announcement before release type of deal? I'm not sure why it'd be different this time around but hey I can still hope

Felt like this songs fit with a late summer or for sure fall release. whatever that means.
is tangerine reef really their last thing? I guess 3 years isn't that crazy then. but its def crazier if you count PW as last thing...
they might just take extra time cuz they know how lit and fully great this set of songs is/will be. if that makes sense. they just gotta make sure its juuuuuuuuust right.
