Maybe it has to do with marketing costs? I don't know. It's annoying as hell, but I have to acknowledge how little I know about the subject.

I know, that's my the bottom line of my reasoning, too. That said... what marketing did IIN? receive? No music videos, no singles outside of Defeat, no TV performances... like what

Looks like Deakin shared my IG post of Virginia Tech at 33rpm. You guys should go check out how trippy it sounds!

Been a while! Had to cool off after the years of Skiffs/IIN-era hype.
Been listening to SG for a couple weeks now, so here to share some thoughts. Spoiler alert(s).
S of E is Elegy, Religious Bop is Just as Well. JAW is possibly my favourite track (along with Left in the Cold) - bombastic and upbeat, start to finish.
The whole record (apart from Left in the Cold and Elegy) is very jaunty and, dare I say, jolly as hell. Unashamedly summery. Production very much matches Defense in that there's not a lot of weird sounds or anything - playing it straight for the most part. Really crisp and clear. Josh did a superb job.
Ends Meet has a real Strung with Everything feel to it. Similar rhythm, similar vocal harmonies, similar tropical-adjacent bounciness.
No real trace of the bendy guitar, I'm afraid to say. Maybe some on Elegy? Some squiggly guitar solos like on Defense showing up elsewhere on the album though.
Left in the Cold is less finger picky than the Madrid version and mildly rhythmic (3/4 time signature). Super hypnotic and spacious. Elegy has a similar feel, although it's definitely the most faithful to the Madrid version. It's an interesting choice to have those two songs back to back when the rest of the record is so classic rock but they're both seriously beautiful and enchanting.
Vocal harmonies throughout the album are stellar. Very 60's pop in a way, kind of along the same lines as some of the Reset stuff.
Not sure where Dave or Brian show up but I think I hear some Josh vocals here and there (could be wrong). There's definitely a female singer on one or two of the tracks, including some spoken word on Anywhere but Here (in Portuguese I'm guessing?).
Also foxtrot well done/thank you for sharing. It's natural to feel all that stuff and it's hard to not like something from an artist whose output you've always liked. I think when you hear the full album Defense makes more sense and even if you don't like it there will be songs you're into.
Gonna disappear for a bit again now.
Amazing, thanks for sharing TTG! Glad to hear S of E is still on.

A lady never tells! But a whatever I am always comes and spills some beans with the CA homies.

Hard to call it this early on, especially since it's so different to everything else he's done. Weighing it up against his back catalogue is like trying to compare Rubber Soul to the Richard D James Album. The strong songs are as good as anything he's made and as a whole I'll likely go back to it more than Buoys, Reset or YP.
But in total honesty (don't kill me) I don't think as a solo artist he's had one record that I love front to back except Homies, and this is no exception. To my ears every one of his albums has a few fine tracks that I won't skip if listening to the thing in full but will never choose to go back to on their own.

Thanks for the scoop ttg!
And thanks for sharing some thoughts on my whole spiel from earlier.
Your thoughts on the album definitely get me excited! I’ve softened on Defense a bit (still sadly think it’s kinda mid but not filled with disappointment and confusion like I was!).

Kinda one of the smaller points here - but I'm a total Homies apologist too. His best album, even over PP (which is a close second and an all-timer). Every Homies track blends pop and experiment and quirky sounds so well, and it all fits together. Just beautiful and fun front to back - not a dull moment.

Homies defense team logging in. It's a perfect EP.

The wide, ethereal delayed reverb on Noah's vocals on VT is just beautiful.
And to the conversation about Noah's drumming, the subtle syncopation of the kick drum during the verses on VT adds so much of an undercurrent sway; it creates an interesting tension

Vinyl Homies is just as good as Tomboy and almost as good as PP.
