I haven't heard a single second of any of the new tunes. I really hope that's the final title - it sounds so un-AC. I'm pretty happy with Sonic Boom producing as long as he posts here again. Someone said that he didn't contribute to the music on Tomboy but that isn't strictly true - wasn't the synths on the title track and the spring reverb rattles at the start of 'Slow Motion' his doing? Most likely a bunch of other little musical touches.

Yeah I'm willing to be openminded about Sonic Boom producing the new album but I didn't really like what he did with Tomboy. I dislike that buzzing synth on the title track so much, ugh. I think I remember reading an interview somewhere that said it was his idea.

Yeah I think Sonic Boom was sorted of added at the end of Tomboy, where as if he's been with Noah since the beginning of this process I could see it turning out better
Fuck I love the album title. So playful yet somewhat dark, i dunno, really excited bout this

Based on the boots, I don't see how P-Bear could mess this up.

As much of a cool guy Pete was on the older boards, I found
Tomboy to be intolerable precisely because of its heavy-handed production so this news isn't welcome. :/
That said, this one quote from Noah's interview gives me some sense of optimism:
wrote:
I guess I felt like the last time was him [Sonic Boom] in his zone and me in my place, and there were a whole lot of emails, but the work that we did was very disparate, separate. So my thought process was that this time working together in the same room from beginning to end—and the fact that I'm recording in Lisbon—that would be enough difference in terms of the process from the last time.
But I'm still disappointed that Daft Punk aren't going to get their fingers on this, knowing how well their production on
Yeezus turned out. Maybe Noah and DP had a falling out?

I don't think they were ever super buddy-buddy were they? I assumed daft punk just kept Noah's contact info after Noah had asked them to remix his songs and they denied

I'd imagine that Daft Punk would probably be too busy to contribute to the record, or maybe Noah felt there was no room for them.

I agree that SB kind of over-compressed Tomboy, but I think he could do a decent job with this new one. I kind of wish Scott Colburn would produce something with the AC guys again though. It just doesn't get better than Feels and SJ for me, and the production on those was wildly different. It's not common you find a producer with that much versatility for such a dense group.

Before Hash points it out again, Colby only engineered those albums but I do hope he works with the guys in some capacity again.

I was always under the impression that engineering and producing meant the same thing.

Sonic's production is totally on and off. What he did with Alsatian or last night at the jetty=great. What he did with slow motion= meh nah.
I'm fine with him working with him again as long as Noah doesn't give another interview where he's all "yea so I finished the record and then handed it over to this over guy who I've never met before and doesn't know anything about my work to mix, and then I put that out ."
Yea just not that again and whatever it's fine. I trust Noah's audible instincts, for the most part

And if a anybody's thinking "hmm what makes him not trust Noah's instincts a little bit?.."
Go listen to the single of surfers hymn and then the piece of garbage album version. What? No

Yeah, his stuff with MURS is great. I'd personally recommend Little Brother, specifically "The Minstrel Show", which what put 9th's name out there (that and doing a beat on Jay Z's "The Black Album"). But "The Minstrel Show" has all of the soul samples hat Noah was talking about.

actually tomboy is amazing, except from the production at points, it has - when listening to it again - some of the most brilliant songs on it ever written, maybe.
